Why is the Bible called the Bible?

Quite simply, the word “Bible” means “books.”

Oxford English Dictionary traces the path of the word through the Greek ta biblia, meaning “the books,” originating from the Greek word, biblos (βιβλος), which could refer to either  “scroll” or “papyrus”.
