The Key to Discipleship

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Matthew 28:19-20 (Bengali)

Just one year after our founding in 1809, Biblica’s generous community of Gospel patrons sponsored our ministry’s first Bible translation: the missionary William Carey’s Bengali translation in India. At our core, we are passionate about doing what the Bible says and making disciples of all nations. And making disciples of all nations starts with making the Word of God available to every tribe, tongue, and nation. We cannot expect the world to become disciples without access to God’s Word.

The Word tells us who God is, all He has done, and what He will do. It also teaches us how to live our lives so that we represent Jesus in all we do. Discipleship, in the simplest form, is emulating the one we are disciples of. And reading the Bible is the best way to spend time with Jesus every day. He is the Word of God in human form: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

So here are three simple ways you can strive with us to be more like Jesus and participate in His mission to make disciples of all nations:

  1. First and foremost, let it begin with us. Press into reading the Word every day and ask God for a greater hunger and passion for the Bible. As you read the Word, let it transform you from the inside out so that each time you read it, you come out looking more like a true disciple of Jesus.
  2. Second, join us in praying for our efforts to reach the 3,000 language groups still waiting for access to the Gospel in their heart language. Prayer is powerful, and we know that this prayer is in line with the desires of God’s heart. We must not give up but continue to pray for those who do not yet have the Word in their language.

Third, consider sponsoring the urgent work of global Bible translation by making a gift today. This will help us achieve our vision of ALL people gaining access to God’s Word in a language they can clearly understand BY 2033.
