1Inima regelui este în mâna Domnului;
El o îndrumă ca pe cursul unei ape, oriunde vrea El.
2Orice cale a omului este dreaptă în ochii lui,
dar Cel Ce cântărește inimile este Domnul.
3A face dreptate și judecată
este mai plăcut Domnului decât o jertfă.
4Trufia ochilor și inima îngâmfată,
candela4 Sau: rodul muncii. celor răi, acestea sunt păcate.
5Planurile celui harnic duc la belșug,
dar cel pripit ajunge sărac.
6Obținerea comorilor printr‑o limbă mincinoasă
este un abur trecător al celor ce caută moartea.
7Violența celor răi îi spulberă
pentru că refuză să facă ce este drept.
8Calea omului vinovat este întortocheată,
dar purtarea celui curat este dreaptă.
9Mai bine să locuiești într‑un colț pe acoperiș,
decât într‑o casă alături de o soție cicălitoare.
10Sufletul celui rău dorește răul;
semenul lui nu găsește bunăvoință în ochii lui.
11Când este pedepsit un batjocoritor, naivul devine înțelept;
când se dă învățătură celui înțelept, el primește cunoștință.

El îi aruncă pe cei răi în nenorocire.
13Celui ce‑și astupă urechea la strigătul săracului,
nu i se va răspunde nici lui când va striga.
14Un dar oferit în secret potolește mânia
și o mită dată pe ascuns liniștește cea mai aprigă mânie.
15Este o bucurie pentru cel drept să facă ce este corect,
dar pentru cei ce săvârșesc nelegiuirea este o groază.
16Omul care se îndepărtează de calea înțelepciunii
se va odihni în adunarea umbrelor.
17Cine iubește distracția va ajunge sărac
și cine iubește vinul și uleiurile nu se va îmbogăți.
18Cel rău devine preț de răscumpărare pentru cel drept
și cel trădător pentru cei integri.
19Mai bine să locuiești în pustie,
decât cu o soție cicălitoare și supărăcioasă.
20Comori de preț și untdelemn sunt în casa celui înțelept,
dar cel nesăbuit le risipește.
21Cine urmărește dreptatea și bunătatea
găsește viață, dreptate și glorie.
22Înțeleptul cucerește cetatea celor viteji
și doboară fortăreața în care aceștia se încred.
23Cine își păzește gura și limba,
își păzește sufletul de necazuri.
24„Batjocoritor“ este numele celui îngâmfat și semeț,
al celui ce acționează cu aroganța îngâmfării.
25Dorința leneșului îl omoară
pentru că mâinile lui refuză să lucreze.
26Toată ziua poftește mai mult,
dar cel drept dă și nu ține pentru el.
27Jertfa celor răi este o urâciune,
cu atât mai mult când aceștia o aduc cu intenție rea!
28Martorul minciunilor va pieri,
dar un om care ascultă va vorbi pentru totdeauna.
29Cel rău arată îndrăzneală pe fața lui,
dar cel drept își pregătește căile.29 Sau: își gândește calea.
30Nu există nici înțelepciune, nici pricepere
și nici vreun plan care să reușească împotriva Domnului.
31Calul este pregătit pentru ziua luptei,
dar victoria este a Domnului.
