زنانی برای قبیلهٔ بنيامين
1رهبران اسرائيل وقتی در مصفه جمع شده بودند، قسم خوردند كه هرگز اجازه ندهند دختران آنها با مردان قبيلهٔ بنيامين ازدواج كنند. 2سپس به بيت‌ئيل آمده تا غروب آفتاب در حضور خدا نشستند. آنها به شدت می‌گريستند و می‌گفتند: 3«ای خداوند، خدای اسرائيل، چرا اين حادثه رخ داد و ما يكی از قبايل خود را از دست داديم؟»
4روز بعد، صبح زود برخاسته، قربانگاهی ساختند و بر روی آن قربانیهای سلامتی و سوختنی تقديم كردند. 5آنها می‌گفتند: «وقتی كه برای مشورت در حضور خداوند در مصفه جمع شديم آيا قبيله‌ای از اسرائيل بود كه به آنجا نيامده باشد؟» (در آن موقع همه با هم قسم خورده بودند كه اگر يكی از قبايل، از آمدن به حضور خداوند خودداری نمايد، حتماً بايد نابود گردد.) 6قوم اسرائيل به سبب نابود شدن قبيلهٔ بنيامين، سوگوار و غمگين بودند و پيوسته با خود می‌گفتند: «از قبايل اسرائيل يک قبيله نابود شد. 7اكنون برای آن عده‌ای كه باقيمانده‌اند از كجا زن بگيريم؟ زيرا ما به خداوند قسم خورده‌ايم كه دختران خود را به آنها ندهيم؟»
8-9برای اينكه معلوم شود كدام قبيله از قبايل اسرائيل از آمدن به مصفه خودداری كرده بود، آنها به شمارش قوم پرداختند. سرانجام معلوم شد كه از يابيش جلعاد هيچكس نيامده بود. 10-12پس اسرائيلی‌ها دوازده هزار نفر از بهترين جنگاوران خود را فرستادند تا مردم يابيش جلعاد را نابود كنند. آنها رفته، تمام مردان و زنان و بچه‌ها را كشتند و فقط دختران باكره را كه به سن ازدواج رسيده بودند باقی گذاردند. تعداد اين دختران چهارصد نفر بود كه آنها را به اردوگاه اسرائيل در شيلوه آوردند.
13آنگاه اسرائیلی‌ها نمايندگانی جهت صلح نزد بازماندگان قبيلهٔ بنيامين كه به صخرهٔ رمون گريخته بودند، فرستادند. 14مردان قبيلهٔ بنيامين به شهر خود بازگشتند و اسرائیلی‌ها آن چهارصد دختر را به ايشان دادند. ولی تعداد اين دختران برای آنها كافی نبود.
15قوم اسرائيل برای قبيلهٔ بنيامين غمگين بود، زيرا خداوند در ميان قبايل اسرائيل جدايی بوجود آورده بود. 16-17رهبران اسرائيل می‌گفتند: «برای بقيهٔ آنها از كجا زن بگيريم، چون همهٔ زنان قبيلهٔ بنيامين مرده‌اند؟ بايد در اين باره چاره‌ای بينديشيم تا نسل اين قبيله از بين نرود و قبيله‌ای از اسرائيل كم نشود. 18ولی ما نمی‌توانيم دختران خود را به آنها بدهيم، چون كسی را كه دختر خود را به قبيلهٔ بنيامين بدهد لعنت كرده‌ايم.» 19ولی بعد به ياد آوردند كه هر سال در شيلوه عيدی برای خداوند برگزار می‌شود. (شيلوه در سمت شرقی راهی كه از بيت‌ئيل به شكيم می‌رود در ميان لبونه و بيت‌ئيل واقع شده بود.) 20پس به مردان بنيامينی گفتند: «برويد و خود را در تاكستانها پنهان كنيد. 21وقتی دختران شيلوه برای رقصيدن بيرون آيند، شما از تاكستانها بيرون بياييد و آنها را برباييد و به خانه‌های خود ببريد تا همسران شما گردند. 22اگر پدران و برادران آنها برای شكايت نزد ما بيايند به ايشان خواهيم گفت: آنها را ببخشيد و بگذاريد دختران شما را پيش خود نگه دارند؛ زيرا در اين جنگ آنها بدون زن مانده بودند و شما نيز نمی‌توانستيد برخلاف عهد خود رفتار كرده، به آنها زن بدهيد.»
23پس مردان بنيامينی چنين كردند و از ميان دخترانی كه در شيلوه می‌رقصيدند، هر يک برای خود زنی گرفته، به سرزمين خود برد. سپس ايشان شهرهای خود را از نو بنا كرده، در آنها ساكن شدند.
24بنی‌اسرائيل پس از اين واقعه، آن مكان را ترک گفته، هر يک به قبيله و خاندان و ملک خود بازگشتند.
25در آن زمان بنی‌اسرائيل پادشاهی نداشت و هر کس هر چه دلش می‌خواست می‌كرد.
1Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife. 2And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore; 3And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel? 4And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. 5And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death. 6And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day. 7How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?
8¶ And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly. 9For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead there. 10And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children. 11And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.21.11 hath lain…: Heb. knoweth the lying with man 12And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.21.12 young…: Heb. young women virgins 13And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.21.13 to speak…: Heb. and spake and called21.13 call…: or, proclaim peace 14And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not. 15And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
16¶ Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin? 17And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel. 18Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin. 19Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.21.19 yearly: Heb. from year to year21.19 on the east…: or, toward the sunrising21.19 of the highway: or, on the highway 20Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards; 21And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin. 22And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.21.22 Be favourable…: or, Gratify us in them 23And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them. 24And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance. 25In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
