نعومی و روت
1-2در زمانی كه هنوز پادشاهی بر قوم اسرائيل حكومت نمی‌كرد، سرزمين اسرائيل دچار خشكسالی شد. مردی از اهالی افراته به نام اليملک كه در بيت‌لحم زندگی می‌كرد، در اثر اين خشكسالی از وطن خود به سرزمين موآب كوچ كرد. زن او نعومی و دو پسرش مَحلون و كِليون نيز همراه او بودند. 3در طی اقامتشان در موآب، اليملک درگذشت و نعومی با دو پسرش تنها ماند.
4-5پسران نعومی با دو دختر موآبی به نامهای عرفه و روت ازدواج كردند. ده سال بعد محلون و كليون نيز مردند. بدين ترتيب نعومی، هم شوهر و هم پسرانش را از دست داد و تنها ماند. 6-7او تصميم گرفت با دو عروسش به زادگاه خود بازگردد، زيرا شنيده بود كه خداوند به قوم خود بركت داده و محصول زمين دوباره فراوان شده است.
اما وقتی به راه افتادند، تصميم نعومی عوض شد 8و به عروسهايش گفت: «شما همراه من نياييد. به خانهٔ پدری خود بازگرديد. خداوند به شما بركت بدهد همانگونه كه شما به من و پسرانم خوبی كرديد. 9اميدوارم به لطف خداوند بتوانيد بار ديگر شوهر كنيد و خوشبخت شويد.»
سپس نعومی آنها را بوسيد و آنها گريستند 10و به نعومی گفتند: «ما می‌خواهيم همراه تو نزد قوم تو بياييم.»
11ولی نعومی در جواب آنها گفت: «ای دخترانم بهتر است برگرديد. چرا می‌خواهيد همراه من بياييد؟ مگر من می‌توانم صاحب پسران ديگری شوم كه برای شما شوهر باشند؟1:11 طبق رسم آن روزگار هرگاه شوهر زنی می‌مرد برادر شوهر آن زن می‌بايست او را به عقد خود در می‌آورند (تثنيه 25:5-10). 12-13نه، ای دخترانم، نزد قوم خود بازگرديد، زيرا از من گذشته است كه بار ديگر شوهر كنم. حتی اگر همين امشب شوهر كنم و صاحب پسرانی شوم، آيا تا بزرگ شدن آنها صبر خواهيد كرد و با كس ديگری ازدواج نخواهيد نمود؟ از وضعی كه برای شما پيش آمده متأسفم. خداوند طوری مرا تنبيه نموده كه موجب آزردگی شما نيز شده‌ام.»
14آنها بار ديگر با صدای بلند گريستند. عرفه مادر شوهرش را بوسيد و از او خداحافظی كرد و به خانه بازگشت. اما روت از او جدا نشد. 15نعومی به روت گفت: «ببين دخترم، زن برادر شوهرت نزد قوم و خدايان خود بازگشت. تو هم همين كار را بكن.»
16اما روت به او گفت: «مرا مجبور نكن كه تو را ترک كنم، چون هر جا بروی با تو خواهم آمد و هر جا بمانی با تو خواهم ماند. قوم تو، قوم من و خدای تو، خدای من خواهد بود. 17می‌خواهم جايی كه تو می‌ميری بميرم و در كنار تو دفن شوم. خداوند بدترين بلا را بر سر من بياورد، اگر بگذارم چيزی جز مرگ مرا از تو جدا كند.»
18نعومی چون ديد تصميم روت قطعی است و به هيچ وجه نمی‌شود او را منصرف كرد، ديگر اصرار ننمود. 19پس هر دو روانهٔ بيت‌لحم شدند. وقتی بدانجا رسيدند تمام اهالی به هيجان آمدند و زنها از همديگر می‌پرسيدند: «آيا اين خود نعومی است؟» 20نعومی به ايشان گفت: «مرا نعومی (يعنی ”خوشحال“) نخوانيد. مرا ماره (يعنی ”تلخ“) صدا كنيد؛ زيرا خدای قادر مطلق زندگی مرا تلخ كرده است. 21پُر رفتم و خداوند مرا خالی بازگردانيد. برای چه مرا نعومی می‌خوانيد، حال آنكه خداوند قادر مطلق روی خود را از من برگردانيده و اين مصيبت بزرگ را بر من وارد آورده است؟»
22(وقتی نعومی و روت از موآب به بيت‌لحم رسيدند، هنگام درو جو بود.)
1Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.1.1 ruled: Heb. judged 2And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.1.2 continued: Heb. were 3And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. 5And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
6¶ Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. 7Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. 8And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. 9The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. 10And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. 11And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? 12Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;1.12 should have…: or were with an husband 13Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.1.13 tarry: Heb. hope1.13 it grieveth…: Heb. 19¶ So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? 20And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.1.20 Naomi: that is, Pleasant1.20 Mara: that is, Bitter 21I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? 22So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Beth-lehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
