O arrependimento trará bênção
1Ó Israel, volta-te para o Senhor, o teu Deus, porque foste desfeito pelos teus pecados. 2Apresenta a tua defesa, se quiseres. Vem até ao Senhor e diz-lhe: “Ó Senhor, tira a nossa iniquidade; sê misericordioso para connosco e recebe-nos; oferecer-te-emos sacrifícios de louvor. 3A Assíria não pode salvar-nos; tão-pouco o fará a nossa própria força na batalha; nunca mais oraremos aos ídolos dos quais fizemos nossos deuses, porque só em ti o órfão encontrará piedade.”
4“Então curar-vos-ei da idolatria e da infidelidade; o meu amor não terá limites; a minha ira desaparecerá para sempre! 5Refrescarei Israel como o orvalho que cai dos céus; florescerá como o lírio e aprofundará as suas raízes, tal como os cedros do Líbano. 6Os seus ramos estender-se-ão; serão como os das belas oliveiras; o seu odor será como o das florestas do Líbano. 7O seu povo regressará do exílio longínquo onde se encontrava e virá descansar sob a minha sombra. Tornar-se-ão como um jardim bem regado; florescerão como vinhas, terão a fragância do vinho do Líbano.
8Ó Efraim, afasta-te dos ídolos! Eu estou vivo e sou forte! Olho por ti e cuidarei de ti. Sou como uma árvore sempre verde, dando-te os meus frutos todo o ano. A minha misericórdia não terá fim.”
9Quem for sábio, que compreenda estas coisas. Quem é inteligente, que as ouça. Porque os caminhos do Senhor são retos e os justos andarão neles. Contudo, os pecadores neles cairão.
Repentance to bring blessing
In Hebrew texts 14:1-9 is numbered 14:2-10. 1Return, Israel, to the Lord your God.
Your sins have been your downfall!
2Take words with you
and return to the Lord.
Say to him:
‘Forgive all our sins
and receive us graciously,
that we may offer the fruit of our lips.14:2 Or offer our lips as sacrifices of bulls
3Assyria cannot save us;
we will not mount warhorses.
We will never again say “Our gods”
to what our own hands have made,
for in you the fatherless find compassion.’
4‘I will heal their waywardness
and love them freely,
for my anger has turned away from them.
5I will be like the dew to Israel;
he will blossom like a lily.
Like a cedar of Lebanon
he will send down his roots;
6his young shoots will grow.
His splendour will be like an olive tree,
his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon.
7People will dwell again in his shade;
they will flourish like the corn,
they will blossom like the vine –
Israel’s fame will be like the wine of Lebanon.
8Ephraim, what more have I14:8 Or Hebrew; Septuagint What more has Ephraim to do with idols?
I will answer him and care for him.
I am like a flourishing juniper;
your fruitfulness comes from me.’
9Who is wise? Let them realise these things.
Who is discerning? Let them understand.
The ways of the Lord are right;
the righteous walk in them,
but the rebellious stumble in them.
