Hesekiels profetkallelse och uppdrag
1Han sa: ”Människa, res dig upp,2:1 Ordagrant: människoson eller människobarn, som Gud ofta tilltalar Hesekiel., så ska jag tala till dig.” 2Och medan han talade kom Anden2:2 Eller vind; eller anden (eventuellt Hesekiels). in i mig och reste upp mig på fötterna, och jag hörde honom tala till mig.
3Han sa: ”Du människa, jag sänder dig till israeliterna, ett folk som gör uppror mot mig. De och deras förfäder har varit upproriska mot mig fram till denna dag. 4Till dessa med fräck uppsyn och envist hjärta sänder jag dig, och du ska säga till dem: ’Så säger Herren, Herren.’ 5Vare sig de lyssnar eller inte – för ett upproriskt släkte är de – kommer de att få veta att en profet har varit ibland dem.
6Du människa, var inte rädd för dem! Var inte rädd för vad de säger, även om det är nässlor och törnen runt omkring dig och du bor bland skorpioner. Var inte rädd för vad de säger, och bli inte förskräckt för dem, för de är ett upproriskt släkte. 7Du ska tala mina ord till dem vare sig de lyssnar eller inte, för de är upproriska. 8Människa, lyssna nu på vad jag säger till dig. Var inte upprorisk som detta upproriska släkte! Öppna munnen och ät vad jag ger dig!”
9Jag såg en hand räckas ut mot mig, och i den var en bokrulle. 10Han rullade upp den inför mig, och den var fullskriven på både fram- och baksidan. Det som var skrivet i den var klagosånger, suckan och jämmer.

6¶ And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.2.6 briers…: or, rebels 7And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.2.7 most…: Heb. rebellion 8But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
9¶ And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; 10And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
