1Sedan sa han till mig: ”Du människa, ät upp vad som finns framför dig, ät upp den här bokrullen! Gå sedan och tala till israeliterna!” 2Jag öppnade munnen, och han gav mig bokrullen att äta. 3”Människa”, sa han till mig, ”ät upp och fyll din buk med denna bokrulle som jag ger dig.” Jag åt, och den smakade sött som honung.
4Sedan sa han till mig: ”Du människa, gå nu till israeliterna och tala mina ord till dem. 5Det är inte till ett folk med ett främmande och obegripligt språk som du sänds ut, utan till israeliterna, 6inte till många folk vars främmande språk och svårbegripliga tal du inte kan förstå. Om jag hade sänt dig till dem skulle de ha lyssnat till dig. 7Men israeliterna vill inte lyssna till dig mer än de vill lyssna till mig. Alla israeliterna har hårda pannor och hårda hjärtan. 8Men jag ska göra ditt ansiktsuttryck lika hårt som deras och din panna lika hård. 9Jag ska göra din panna hård som den hårdaste sten, hårdare än flinta. Var inte rädd för dem, låt dig inte skrämmas av dem. De är ju ett upproriskt släkte.”
10Sedan sa han: ”Du människa, lägg allt jag säger på minnet! Lyssna noga! 11Gå till dina landsmän i fångenskapen, tala till dem, och vare sig de lyssnar eller inte, ska du säga till dem: ’Så säger Herren, Herren.’ ”
12Sedan lyfte Anden mig upp. Bakom mig hörde jag då ett väldigt dån: ”Välsignad vare Herrens härlighet3:12 Enligt Vulgata och flera moderna översättningar: …när Herrens härlighet lyfte från sin plats. Hebreiskans ord för välsigna och lyfta/höja sig är mycket lika och kan lätt ha förväxlats i gamla handskrifter. från denna plats!” 13Dånet kom från varelsernas vingar när de rörde vid varandra och ljudet från hjulen intill dem, ett väldigt dån. 14Anden lyfte mig upp och förde mig bort. Jag var bitter och upprörd medan jag gick. Herrens hand vilade tungt på mig. 15Jag kom till de bortförda i Tel Aviv3:15 En stad i södra Babylonien., som bodde vid floden Kevar. Där blev jag sittande bland dem i sju dagar, modfälld.
16När sju dagar hade gått kom Herrens ord till mig: 17”Du människa, jag har utsett dig till en väktare för israeliterna. Lyssna till vad jag har att säga och varna dem för mig. 18När jag säger till den gudlöse: ’Du ska dö,’ och du inte varnar honom eller tillrättavisar honom för hans onda leverne, för att rädda hans liv, då ska den gudlöse dö i sin synd, men vedergällningen för hans liv ska jag kräva av dig. 19Men om du varnar den gudlöse och han inte vänder om från sin ondska eller sitt onda leverne, då ska han dö i sin synd, men du har räddat ditt liv.
20Likaså om en rättfärdig vänder bort från sin rättfärdighet och gör det som är orätt, ska jag lägga en stötesten framför honom, och han ska dö. Om du inte har varnat honom måste han dö i sin synd. Man ska inte komma ihåg hans rättfärdiga gärningar, och vedergällningen för hans liv ska jag kräva av dig. 21Men om du varnar den rättfärdige för att synda, och han inte syndar, då ska han få leva därför att han lät varna sig, och då har du också räddat ditt liv.”
22Herrens hand var över mig där, och han sa till mig: ”Gå bort till dalen, så ska jag tala med dig där.” 23Jag reste mig och gick till dalen. Där stod Herrens härlighet, på samma sätt som jag hade sett vid floden Kevar. Då föll jag ner med ansiktet mot jorden.
24Sedan kom Anden in i mig och reste mig upp på fötterna. Han talade till mig och sa: ”Gå och stäng in dig i ditt hus! 25Människa, de kommer att binda dig med rep, så att du inte kan gå ut bland dem. 26Jag ska låta din tunga fastna i gommen, så att du blir stum och inte kan tillrättavisa dem. De är ju ett upproriskt släkte. 27Men när jag talar med dig ska jag lösa din tunga, och du ska säga till dem: ’Så säger Herren, Herren!’ Den som vill lyssna, ska lyssna, den som inte vill, lyssnar inte. De är ju ett upproriskt släkte.
1Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

15¶ Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.
16And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 17Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 18When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 19Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. 20Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.3.20 righteousness which: Heb. righteousnesses 21Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
22¶ And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee. 23Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face. 24Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house. 25But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: 26And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.3.26 a reprover: Heb. a man reproving 27But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.
