Joahas regerar i Juda
(2 Kung 23:31-35)
1Folket i landet gjorde Josias son Joachas till kung efter honom i Jerusalem. 2Joachas var tjugotre år när han blev kung, och han regerade tre månader i Jerusalem. 3Kungen av Egypten avsatte honom i Jerusalem och krävde av landet tre och ett halvt ton silver och trettiofem kilo36:3 Ordagrant: 100 talenter resp. en talent. guld i skatt.
Jojakim regerar i Juda
(2 Kung 23:36—24:6)
4Egyptens kung insatte Joachas bror Eljakim till kung över Juda och Jerusalem och ändrade hans namn till Jojakim. Neko förde hans bror Joachas till Egypten.
5Jojakim var tjugofem år när han blev kung, och han regerade i elva år i Jerusalem. Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens, sin Guds, ögon. 6Nebukadnessar, kungen i Babylon, anföll honom och förde honom i bojor till Babylon. 7Nebukadnessar tog också med sig föremål från Herrens hus till Babylon och ställde upp dem i sitt tempel där.
8Jojakims historia i övrigt och allt det avskyvärda han gjorde och befanns skyldig till finns nedtecknat i boken om Israels och Juda kungar. Hans son Jojakin blev kung efter honom.
Jojakin regerar i Juda
(2 Kung 24:8-17)
9Jojakin var arton36:9 Enligt vissa handskrifter åtta. år när han blev kung, och han regerade i tre månader och tio dagar. Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon. 10Vid årsskiftet lät kung Nebukadnessar hämta honom och förde honom till Babylon, samtidigt som de dyrbara föremålen från Herrens hus. Han gjorde hans bror Sidkia till kung över Juda och Jerusalem.
Sidkia regerar i Juda
(2 Kung 24:18-20; Jer 52:1-3)
11Sidkia var tjugoett år när han blev kung, och han regerade i elva år i Jerusalem. 12Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens, sin Guds, ögon för han ödmjukade sig inte för profeten Jeremia, som talade på Herrens uppdrag. 13Han gjorde också uppror mot kung Nebukadnessar, som hade låtit honom svära en ed vid Gud. Han var envis och motspänstig och ville inte omvända sig till Herren, Israels Gud. 14Alla de ledande bland prästerna och folket blev mer och mer otrogna och följde andra folks avskyvärda seder och bruk. De orenade Herrens hus som han hade helgat i Jerusalem.
Templet förstörs och exil
(2 Kung 25:1-21; Jer 39:1-10; 52:4-27)
15Herren, deras fäders Gud, sände gång på gång varningar till dem genom sina sändebud, för han hade medlidande med dem och sitt tempel. 16Men de förolämpade Guds sändebud, föraktade hans ord och hånade hans profeter, tills Herrens vrede mot sitt folk blev så stor att det inte längre fanns någon räddning.
17Han lät den kaldeiske kungen anfalla dem och döda deras unga män med svärd i helgedomen. Han skonade varken unga män eller kvinnor, gamla eller åldersstigna. Alla gav han i Nebukadnessars våld. 18Alla föremålen från Guds hus, både stora och små, och skatter från både Herrens hus och kungens och furstarnas skatter, allt förde han till Babylon. 19De satte eld på Guds hus, rev ner Jerusalems murar, brände alla palatsen och förstörde allt av värde. 20Resten, som överlevt svärdet, förde han bort i fångenskap till Babylon. De fick bli hans och hans söners slavar, ända tills perserna kom till makten, 21för att Herrens ord genom profeten Jeremia skulle uppfyllas, tills landet fått gottgörelse för sina sabbater. Hela den tid landet låg öde hade det sabbatsvila, tills sjuttio år hade gått.
Kung Kyros låter folket återvända
(Esra 1:1-3)
22Under den persiske kungen Kyros första regeringsår, ingav Herren Kyros tanken att sända ut en förordning som skulle förkunnas över hela hans rike, både skriftligt och muntligt, detta för att Herrens ord genom Jeremia skulle uppfyllas:
23”Så säger Kyros, kung av Persien:
’Herren, himlens Gud, har gett mig alla jordens riken, och han har befallt mig att bygga ett tempel åt honom i Jerusalem i Juda. Vem det än är bland er som tillhör hans folk – må Herren, hans Gud, vara med honom!’ ”36:23 De två sista verserna i 2 Krön är identiska med de första verserna i Esra och kan ha fungerat som markör för att böckerna hör ihop.

5¶ Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. 6Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.36.6 fetters: or, chains 7Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon. 8Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.36.8 Jehoiachin: also called, Jeconiah, or, Coniah
9¶ Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. 10And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.36.10 when…: Heb. at the return of the year36.10 goodly…: Heb. vessels of desire36.10 Zedekiah…: or, Mattaniah, his father’s brother
11¶ Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. 12And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD. 13And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Israel.
14¶ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. 15And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:36.15 by: Heb. by the hand of36.15 betimes: that is, continually and carefully 16But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.36.16 remedy: Heb. healing 17Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. 18And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. 20And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:36.20 them…: Heb. the remainder from the sword 21To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
22¶ Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, 23Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
