Strategia lui Naomi
1După o vreme Naomi, soacra ei, i‑a zis:
– Fiica mea, aș vrea să‑ți găsesc un loc de odihnă, unde să‑ți fie bine. 2Oare Boaz, cu ale cărui slujnice ai fost, nu este el rudă cu noi? Iată că la noapte își va vântura orzul în arie. 3Tu spală‑te, unge‑te, pune‑ți mantia pe tine și coboară la aria de treierat. Să nu te faci însă cunoscută lui până nu termină de mâncat și de băut. 4Și când urmează să se culce, să afli locul unde se va culca. Apoi să te duci, să‑i dezvelești picioarele și să te culci. După aceea îți va spune el ce să faci.
5Ea i‑a răspuns:
– Voi face tot ce mi‑ai spus.
6Rut a coborât la aria de treierat și a făcut întocmai cum o sfătuise soacra ei. 7După ce a mâncat și a băut, Boaz, mulțumit în inima lui, s‑a întins să se culce la marginea unui stog. Atunci ea s‑a apropiat încet, i‑a dezvelit picioarele și s‑a culcat acolo. 8Pe la miezul nopții omul s‑a speriat. El s‑a aplecat și iată că o femeie era culcată la picioarele sale.
9El a întrebat:
– Cine ești tu?
Ea i‑a răspuns:
– Sunt eu, Rut, slujitoarea ta. Întinde‑ți marginea mantiei peste slujitoarea ta,9 Sau: Ia‑o pe slujitoarea ta sub aripile tale, ambele variante exprimând o cerere de răscumpărare și protecție prin căsătorie. căci tu ești cel cu drept de răscumpărare.
10El a zis:
– Binecuvântată să fii de Domnul, fiica mea! Bunătatea10 Vezi nota de la 1:8. pe care ai arătat‑o la urmă spune mai mult decât ceea ce ai făcut prima dată, de vreme ce nu ai umblat după cei tineri, fie ei săraci sau bogați. 11De aceea, fiica mea, nu te teme. Voi face pentru tine tot ce mi‑ai spus, deoarece tot poporul meu în cetate știe că ești o femeie cinstită. 12Este adevărat că eu am drept de răscumpărare, dar mai există cineva, mai apropiat decât mine, care are și el acest drept. 13Rămâi în noaptea aceasta aici, iar dimineața, dacă el va dori să te răscumpere, bine, să te răscumpere! Dar dacă nu va dori să te răscumpere, viu este Domnul că te voi răscumpăra eu! Deci culcă‑te aici până dimineață.
14Ea a rămas culcată la picioarele lui până spre dimineață, trezindu‑se mai înainte ca oamenii să se poată vedea unii pe alții, deoarece Boaz îi spusese:
– Să nu se afle că a intrat o femeie în arie.
15Apoi Boaz a zis:
– Adu mantaua de pe tine și ține‑o bine.
Ea a ținut‑o, iar Boaz i‑a măsurat șase măsuri de orz și le‑a pus în ea. Apoi el s‑a dus în cetate.
16Când Rut a ajuns la soacra sa, aceasta a întrebat‑o:
– Cum a fost, fiica mea?
Rut i‑a istorisit tot ce a făcut omul acela pentru ea.
17Apoi a zis:
– Mi‑a mai dat și aceste șase măsuri de orz, zicându‑mi: „Să nu te întorci cu mâinile goale la soacra ta.“
18Naomi i‑a zis:
– Așteaptă, fiica mea, până vei vedea ce întorsătură vor lua lucrurile, dar îți spun că omul acesta nu‑și va găsi liniștea până nu va lămuri lucrurile chiar astăzi.
Ruth and Boaz at the Threshing Floor
1One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi spoke to her. She said, “My daughter, I must find a home for you. It should be a place where you will be provided for. 2You have been working with the women who work for Boaz. He’s a relative of ours. Tonight he’ll be separating the straw from his barley on the threshing floor. 3So wash yourself. Put on some perfume. And put on your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor. But don’t let Boaz know you are there. Wait until he has finished eating and drinking. 4Notice where he lies down. Then go over and uncover his feet. Lie down there. He’ll tell you what to do.”
5“I’ll do everything you say,” Ruth answered. 6So she went down to the threshing floor. She did everything her mother-in-law had told her to do.
7When Boaz had finished eating and drinking, he was in a good mood. He went over to lie down at the far end of the grain pile. Then Ruth approached quietly. She uncovered his feet and lay down there. 8In the middle of the night, something surprised Boaz and woke him up. He turned and found a woman lying there at his feet!
9“Who are you?” he asked.
“I’m Ruth,” she said. “You are my family protector. So take good care of me by making me your wife.”
10“Dear woman, may the Lord bless you,” he replied. “You are showing even more kindness now than you did earlier. You didn’t run after the younger men, whether they were rich or poor. 11Dear woman, don’t be afraid. I’ll do for you everything you ask. All the people of my town know that you are an excellent woman. 12It’s true that I’m a relative of yours. But there’s a family protector who is more closely related to you than I am. 13So stay here for the night. In the morning if he wants to help you, good. Let him help you. But if he doesn’t want to, then I’ll do it. You can be sure that the Lord lives. And you can be just as sure that I’ll help you. Lie down here until morning.”
14So she stayed at his feet until morning. But she got up before anyone could be recognized. Boaz thought, “No one must know that a woman came to the threshing floor.”
15He said to Ruth, “Bring me the coat you have around you. Hold it out.” So she did. He poured more than fifty pounds of barley into it and helped her pick it up. Then he went back to town.
16Ruth came to her mother-in-law. Naomi asked, “How did it go, my daughter?”
Then Ruth told her everything Boaz had done for her. 17She said, “He gave me all this barley. He said, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law with your hands empty.’ ”
18Naomi said, “My daughter, sit down until you find out what happens. The man won’t rest until he settles the whole matter today.”
