Discursul lui Elihu
1Acești trei oameni au încetat să‑i mai răspundă lui Iov, pentru că el se considera drept.1 Lit.: el era drept în ochii săi. 2Atunci Elihu, fiul lui Barachel buzitul, din clanul lui Ram, s‑a aprins de mânie. El s‑a mâniat pentru că acesta se îndreptățea pe sine înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 3S‑a aprins de mânie și pe cei trei prieteni ai lui Iov pentru că aceștia nu mai găseau nimic de răspuns și totuși îl condamnau pe Iov. 4Elihu așteptase să‑i vorbească lui Iov la urmă, pentru că aceștia erau mai în vârstă decât el. 5Dar, văzând că cei trei oameni nu mai au nimic de zis, s‑a mâniat. 6Elihu, fiul lui Barachel buzitul, a răspuns și a zis:
„Eu sunt tânăr,
iar voi sunteți în vârstă.
De aceea m‑am ferit
și m‑am temut să vă spun părerea mea.
7Mi‑am zis: «Să vorbească zilele,
și mulțimea anilor să facă cunoscută înțelepciunea!»
8Dar există un Duh în om,
suflarea Celui Atotputernic, care‑i dă pricepere.
9Nu vârsta te face înțelept,
nu bătrânețea te face să înțelegi ce este drept.
10De aceea zic: «Ascultați‑mă!
Îmi voi spune și eu părerea!»
11Iată, v‑am așteptat cuvintele,
v‑am ascultat rostirile pricepute
în timp ce vă căutați vorbele.
12V‑am ascultat cu atenție
și iată că niciunul nu a dovedit că Iov a greșit,
niciunul dintre voi nu a răspuns cuvintelor lui.
13Să nu spuneți: «Am găsit înțelepciunea.
Să‑l confrunte Dumnezeu, nu un om.»
14El nu și‑a îndreptat cuvintele împotriva mea
și nu‑i voi răspunde folosind cuvântările voastre.
15Sunt înspăimântați, nu mai răspund nimic;
au rămas fără cuvinte.
16Și am așteptat. Dar pentru că ei nu mai vorbesc,
pentru că stau acolo fără să răspundă,
17voi răspunde și eu, la rândul meu,
îmi voi spune și eu părerea.
18Căci sunt plin de cuvinte;
duhul pântecului meu nu‑mi dă pace.
19Iată că pântecul meu este ca un vin care n‑a fost aerisit19 Lit.: deschis.,
ca niște burdufuri noi, gata să plesnească.
20Voi vorbi ca să găsesc ușurare.
Îmi voi deschide gura și voi răspunde.
21Nu voi fi părtinitor,
nu voi linguși pe nimeni.
22Nici nu știu să lingușesc;
Creatorul meu m‑ar lua într‑o clipă.
Elihu
1So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. 2But Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God. 3He was also angry with the three friends, because they had found no way to refute Job, and yet had condemned him.32:3 Masoretic Text; an ancient Hebrew scribal tradition Job, and so had condemned God 4Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he. 5But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused.
6So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said:
‘I am young in years,
and you are old;
that is why I was fearful,
not daring to tell you what I know.
7I thought, “Age should speak;
advanced years should teach wisdom.”
8But it is the spirit32:8 Or Spirit; also in verse 18 in a person,
the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.
9It is not only the old32:9 Or many; or great who are wise,
not only the aged who understand what is right.
10‘Therefore I say: listen to me;
I too will tell you what I know.
11I waited while you spoke,
I listened to your reasoning;
while you were searching for words,
12I gave you my full attention.
But not one of you has proved Job wrong;
none of you has answered his arguments.
13Do not say, “We have found wisdom;
let God, not a man, refute him.”
14But Job has not marshalled his words against me,
and I will not answer him with your arguments.
15‘They are dismayed and have no more to say;
words have failed them.
16Must I wait, now that they are silent,
now that they stand there with no reply?
17I too will have my say;
I too will tell what I know.
18For I am full of words,
and the spirit within me compels me;
19inside I am like bottled-up wine,
like new wineskins ready to burst.
20I must speak and find relief;
I must open my lips and reply.
21I will show no partiality,
nor will I flatter anyone;
22for if I were skilled in flattery,
my Maker would soon take me away.
