Reabilitarea providențială a lui Mardoheu
1În acea noapte împăratul nu a putut să doarmă. A cerut să‑i fie adusă „Cartea cronicilor“, adică analele, și i s‑a citit împăratului din ea. 2S‑a găsit scris ce descoperise Mardoheu cu privire la Bigtana și Tereș, doi dintre eunucii împăratului, responsabili cu paza porții, care încercaseră să ridice mâna împotriva împăratului Ahașveroș.
3Împăratul a întrebat:
– Ce onoare și ce răsplată i s‑au dat lui Mardoheu pentru aceasta?
Tinerii slujitori ai împăratului au răspuns:
– Nu i s‑a dat nimic.
4Atunci împăratul a întrebat:
– Cine este în curte?
Haman tocmai intrase în curtea exterioară a palatului împăratului, cu gând să‑i ceară împăratului să‑l spânzure pe Mardoheu cu spânzurătoarea pe care i‑o pregătise.
5Slujitorii împăratului i‑au răspuns:
– Iată, Haman este în curte!
Împăratul a zis:
– Să intre!
6De îndată ce Haman a intrat, împăratul l‑a și întrebat:
– Ce trebuie făcut pentru omul pe care împăratul dorește să‑l onoreze?
Haman a zis în inima lui: „Pe cine altul ar dori împăratul să‑l onoreze mai mult, dacă nu pe mine?“
7Haman i‑a răspuns împăratului:
– Omului pe care împăratul dorește să‑l onoreze 8să i se aducă mantia imperială, cu care se îmbracă împăratul, calul pe care călărește împăratul și să i se pună pe cap coroana împărătească. 9Calul și haina să fie date celui mai nobil dintre demnitarii împăratului, iar el să‑l îmbrace pe omul pe care împăratul dorește să‑l onoreze, să‑l plimbe călare pe cal prin piața cetății și să strige înaintea lui: „Așa se va face omului pe care împăratul dorește să‑l onoreze!“
10Împăratul i‑a zis apoi lui Haman:
– Grăbește‑te de ia mantia și calul, așa cum ai spus, și fă‑i întocmai lui Mardoheu, iudeul care stă la poarta împăratului. Să nu lași nimic nefăcut din ce ai zis!
11Haman a luat mantia și calul, l‑a îmbrăcat pe Mardoheu și l‑a plimbat călare pe cal prin piața cetății, strigând înaintea lui: „Așa se va face omului pe care împăratul dorește să‑l onoreze!“
12După aceea, Mardoheu s‑a întors la poarta împăratului, iar Haman s‑a grăbit să plece acasă, plângând și cu capul acoperit. 13Haman a istorisit soției sale, Zereș, și tuturor prietenilor săi tot ce i s‑a întâmplat. Atunci prietenii lui înțelepți și Zereș, soția sa, i‑au zis: „Dacă Mardoheu, înaintea căruia ai început să cazi, este din neamul iudeilor, nu‑l vei putea învinge, ci cu siguranță vei cădea înaintea lui!“ 14În timp ce vorbeau cu el, au sosit eunucii împăratului și s‑au grăbit să‑l ducă pe Haman la ospățul pregătit de Estera.

And the king said, Let him come in. 6So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? 12¶ And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered. 13And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him. 14And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
