The parable of the workers in the vineyard
1‘For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2He agreed to pay them a denarius20:2 A denarius was the usual daily wage of a day labourer. for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3‘About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the market-place doing nothing. 4He told them, “You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.” 5So they went.
‘He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, “Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?”
7‘ “Because no-one has hired us,” they answered.
‘He said to them, “You also go and work in my vineyard.”
8‘When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.”
9‘The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12“These who were hired last worked only one hour,” they said, “and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.”
13‘But he answered one of them, “I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?”
16‘So the last will be first, and the first will be last.’
Jesus predicts his death a third time
17Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, 18‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!’
A mother’s request
20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favour of him.
21‘What is it you want?’ he asked.
She said, ‘Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.’
22‘You don’t know what you are asking,’ Jesus said to them. ‘Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?’
‘We can,’ they answered.
23Jesus said to them, ‘You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.’
24When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25Jesus called them together and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’
Two blind men receive sight
29As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’
31The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’
32Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ he asked.
33‘Lord,’ they answered, ‘we want our sight.’
34Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
كارفرمای دلسوز
1«وقايع ملكوت خدا را می‌توان به ماجرای صاحب باغی تشبيه كرد كه صبح زود بيرون رفت تا برای باغ خود چند كارگر بگيرد. 2با كارگرها قرار گذاشت كه به هر يک، مزد يک روز كامل را بپردازد؛ سپس همه را به سر كارشان فرستاد.
3«ساعاتی بعد، بار ديگر بيرون رفت و كارگرانی را در ميدان ديد كه بيكار ايستاده‌اند. 4پس، آنان را نيز به باغ خود فرستاد و گفت كه هر چه حقشان باشد، غروب به ايشان خواهد داد. 5نزديک ظهر، و نيز ساعت سه بعد از ظهر، باز عدهٔ بيشتری را به كار گمارد.
6«ساعت پنج بعد از ظهر، بار ديگر رفت و چند نفر ديگر را پيدا كرد كه بيكار ايستاده بودند و پرسيد:
«چرا تمام روز اينجا بيكار مانده‌ايد؟
7«جواب دادند: هيچكس به ما كار نداد.
«به ايشان گفت: برويد به باغ من و كار كنيد.
8«غروب آن روز، صاحب باغ به سركارگر خود گفت كه كارگرها را فرا بخواند و از آخرين تا اولين نفر، مزدشان را بپردازد. 9به كسانی كه ساعت پنج به كار مشغول شده بودند، مزد يک روز تمام را داد. 10در آخر، نوبت كارگرانی شد كه اول از همه به كار مشغول شده بودند؛ ايشان انتظار داشتند بيشتر از ديگران مزد بگيرند. ولی به آنان نيز همان مقدار داده شد.
11-12«پس ايشان به صاحب باغ شكايت كرده، گفتند: به اينها كه فقط يک ساعت كار كرده‌اند، به اندازهٔ ما داده‌ايد كه تمام روز زير آفتاب سوزان جان كنده‌ايم؟
13«مالک باغ رو به يكی از ايشان كرده، گفت: ای رفيق، من كه به تو ظلمی نكردم. مگر تو قبول نكردی با مزد يک روز كار كنی؟ 14پس مزد خود را بگير و برو. دلم می‌خواهد به همه يک اندازه مزد بدهم. 15آيا من حق ندارم هر طور كه دلم می‌خواهد پولم را خرج كنم؟ آيا اين درست است كه تو از سخاوت من دلخور شوی؟
16«بلی، اينچنين است كه آنانی كه اول هستند، آخر می‌شوند و آنانی كه آخرند، اول.»
آخرين سفر عيسی به اورشليم
17در راه اورشليم، عيسی دوازده شاگرد خود را به كناری كشيد 18و به آنها گفت كه در اورشليم چه سرنوشتی در انتظار اوست؛ او فرمود:
«مرا كه مسيحم خواهند گرفت و نزد رئيس كاهنان و علمای مذهبی خواهند برد و به مرگ محكوم خواهند كرد. 19آنان نيز مرا به رومی‌ها تحويل خواهند داد. ايشان مرا مسخره كرده، شلاق خواهند زد و به صليب خواهند كشيد. اما من روز سوم زنده خواهم شد.»
تعليم عيسی درباره خدمت به مردم
20آنگاه مادر يعقوب و يوحنا، پسران زبدی، دو پسر خود را نزد عيسی آورده، او را تعظيم كرد و خواهش نمود كه درخواست او را اجابت كند.
21عيسی پرسيد: «چه درخواستی داری؟»
آن زن جواب داد: «وقتی در ملكوت خود، بر تخت سلطنت نشستيد، اجازه بفرماييد يكی از پسرانم در دست راست و ديگری در دست چپتان بنشينند.»
22عيسی در جواب او فرمود: «تو نمی‌دانی چه می‌خواهی!» سپس رو كرد به يعقوب و يوحنا و از ايشان پرسيد: «آيا می‌توانيد از جام تلخی كه من بايد بزودی بنوشم، شما نيز بنوشيد، آيا می‌توانيد مانند من متحمل رنج و عذاب بشويد؟»
جواب دادند: «بلی، می‌توانيم.»
23عيسی به ايشان فرمود: «درست است، شما از اين جام خواهيد نوشيد و متحمل رنج و عذاب خواهيد شد، اما من اين اختيار را ندارم كه بگويم چه كسی در دست راست يا چپ من بنشيند. اين جای‌ها برای كسانی نگاه داشته شده كه پدرم آنها را قبلاً انتخاب كرده است.»
24ده شاگرد ديگر وقتی فهميدند يعقوب و يوحنا چه درخواستی كرده‌اند، از آن دو برادر سخت رنجيدند.
25ولی عيسی همهٔ شاگردان را فرا خوانده، گفت: «در اين دنيا، حكمرانان بر مردم آقايی می‌كنند و رؤسا به زيردستان خود دستور می‌دهند. 26ولی شما چنين نباشيد. اگر كسی از شما می‌خواهد در ميان شما از همه بزرگتر باشد، بايد خدمتگزار همه باشد؛ 27و اگر می‌خواهد مقامش از همه بالاتر باشد، بايد غلام همه باشد. 28چون من كه مسيحم، نيامدم تا به من خدمت كنند؛ من آمدم تا به مردم خدمت كنم و جانم را در راه نجات بسياری فدا سازم.»
عيسی به دو كور، بينايی می‌بخشد
29وقتی عيسی و شاگردانش از شهر اريحا خارج می‌شدند، جمعيت انبوهی به دنبال ايشان به راه افتاد.
30در همين هنگام، دو كور كه كنار جاده نشسته بودند، چون شنيدند كه عيسی از آنجا می‌گذرد، صدای خود را بلند كرده، فرياد زدند: «ای سَروَر ما، ای پسر داوود پادشاه، بر ما رحم كنيد.»
31مردم كوشيدند ايشان را ساكت سازند، اما آنان صدای خود را بلندتر و بلندتر می‌كردند.
32-33سرانجام وقتی عيسی به آنجا رسيد، ايستاد و از ايشان پرسيد: «چه می‌خواهيد برايتان انجام دهم؟»
جواب دادند: «سَروَر ما، می‌خواهيم چشمانمان باز شود!»
34عيسی دلش به حال ايشان سوخت و دست بر چشمانشان گذاشت. چشمان ايشان فوری باز شد و توانستند ببينند. پس به دنبال عيسی رفتند.
