Israel doubts God’s love
2‘I have loved you,’ says the Lord.
‘But you ask, “How have you loved us?”
‘Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?’ declares the Lord. ‘Yet I have loved Jacob, 3but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.’
4Edom may say, ‘Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.’
But this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord. 5You will see it with your own eyes and say, “Great is the Lord – even beyond the borders of Israel!”
Breaking covenant through blemished sacrifices
6‘A son honours his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honour due to me? If I am a master, where is the respect due to me?’ says the Lord Almighty.
‘It is you priests who show contempt for my name.
‘But you ask, “How have we shown contempt for your name?”
7‘By offering defiled food on my altar.
‘But you ask, “How have we defiled you?”
‘By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. 8When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?’ says the Lord Almighty.
9‘Now plead with God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?’ – says the Lord Almighty.
10‘Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will accept no offering from your hands. 11My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,’ says the Lord Almighty.
12‘But you profane it by saying, “The Lord’s table is defiled,” and, “Its food is contemptible.” 13And you say, “What a burden!” and you sniff at it contemptuously,’ says the Lord Almighty.
‘When you bring injured, lame or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?’ says the Lord. 14‘Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord. For I am a great king,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and my name is to be feared among the nations.
1اين است پيام خداوند كه بوسيلهٔ ملاكی نبی به اسرائيل داده شد.
محبت خداوند نسبت به اسرائيل
2-3خداوند می‌فرمايد: «من شما را هميشه دوست داشته‌ام!»
ولی شما می‌گوييد: «تو چگونه ما را دوست داشته‌ای؟»
خداوند می‌فرمايد: «من جد شما يعقوب را محبت نمودم، هر چند لايق محبت نبود، و به اين ترتيب نشان دادم كه شما را دوست دارم، ولی عيسو را كه برادرش بود رد كردم و سرزمين كوهستانی او را ويران نمودم و آن را جای شغالهای بيابان ساختم.»
4شايد ادومی‌ها كه فرزندان عيسو هستند بگويند: «ما برمی‌گرديم و سرزمين ويران خود را دوباره آباد می‌كنيم.» ولی خداوند قادر متعال می‌گويد: «اگر آن را آباد كنند من دوباره ويرانش خواهم كرد. سرزمين آنها ”سرزمين شرارت“ خوانده خواهد شد و مردمشان به ”قومی كه خداوند آنها را هرگز نمی‌بخشد“، مشهور خواهند گرديد.»
5ای قوم اسرائيل، وقتی با چشمان خود آنچه را كه خداوند در سراسر دنيا انجام می‌دهد ببينيد، خواهيد گفت: «براستی كه قدرت عظيم خداوند در آن سوس مرزهای ما نيز ديده می‌شود.»
سرزنش كاهنان
6خداوند قادر متعال به كاهنان می‌فرمايد: «پسر، پدر خود را و غلام، ارباب خويش را احترام می‌كند. پس اگر من پدر شما هستم احترام من كجاست؟ و اگر من ارباب شما هستم، حرمت من كجاست؟ شما نام مرا بی‌حرمت كرده‌ايد. می‌گوييد: ”ما چگونه نام تو را بی‌حرمت كرده‌ايم؟“ 7شما هنگامی نام مرا بی‌حرمت می‌كنيد كه قربانیهای ناپاک روی قربانگاه من می‌گذاريد. بلی، با اين كارتان مرا تحقير می‌كنيد. 8حيوانات لنگ و كور و بيمار را برای من قربانی می‌كنيد. آيا اين قبيح نيست؟ اگر آن را به حاكم خود هديه می‌كرديد آيا او آن را می‌پسنديد و از شما راضی می‌شد؟
9«دعا می‌كنيد و می‌گوييد: ”خداوندا، بر ما رحم كن! خداوندا، لطف تو شامل حال ما بشود!“ ولی وقتی كه چنين هدايايی می‌آوريد، چطور انتظار داريد دعای شما را اجابت كنم؟»
10خداوند قادر متعال می‌فرمايد: «ای كاش يكی از شما كاهنان، درها را می‌بست تا چنين هدايايی روی قربانگاه من گذاشته نشود. از شما راضی نيستم و قربانیهای شما را نمی‌پذيرم.
11«نام من در سراسر جهان بوسيلهٔ مردم غيريهود مورد احترام قرار خواهد گرفت و آنها به احترام نام من بخور خوشبو خواهند سوزانيد و قربانیهای پاک تقديم خواهند كرد. آری آنها نام مرا با احترام فراوان ياد خواهند كرد. 12ولی شما نام مرا بی‌حرمت می‌سازيد و قربانگاه مرا نجس می‌كنيد، زيرا حيوانات معيوب بر آن می‌گذاريد. 13می‌گوييد: ”خدمت كردن به خداوند كار مشكل و خسته كننده‌ای است“، و از دستورات من سرپيچی می‌كنيد. حيوانات دزديده شده، لنگ و بيمار برای من قربانی می‌كنيد. آيا فكر می‌كنيد من آنها را از دست شما قبول خواهم كرد؟ 14لعنت بر كسی كه بخواهد مرا فريب دهد و با آنكه نذر كرده قوچ سالمی از گلهٔ خود هديه كند، حيوان معيوبی برای من قربانی نمايد. من پادشاه عظيم هستم و مردم دنيا بايد اسم مرا با ترس و احترام ياد كنند.»
