The transfiguration
1After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters – one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’
5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’
6When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified. 7But Jesus came and touched them. ‘Get up,’ he said. ‘Don’t be afraid.’ 8When they looked up, they saw no-one except Jesus.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, ‘Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.’
10The disciples asked him, ‘Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?’
11Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’ 13Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
Jesus heals a demon-possessed boy
14When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15‘Lord, have mercy on my son,’ he said. ‘He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.’
17‘You unbelieving and perverse generation,’ Jesus replied, ‘how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.’ 18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
19Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, ‘Why couldn’t we drive it out?’
20He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’ 2117:21 Some manuscripts include here words similar to Mark 9:29.
Jesus predicts his death a second time
22When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. 23They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.’ And the disciples were filled with grief.
The temple tax
24After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, ‘Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?’
25‘Yes, he does,’ he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. ‘What do you think, Simon?’ he asked. ‘From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes – from their own children or from others?’
26‘From others,’ Peter answered.
‘Then the children are exempt,’ Jesus said to him. 27‘But so that we may not cause offence, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.’
شاگردان شكوه مسيح را می‌بينند
1شش روز بعد، عيسی، پطرس و يعقوب و برادر او يوحنا را برداشت و بر فراز تپه بلندی برد. 2در آنجا، ظاهر عيسی در مقابل چشمان ايشان دگرگون شد و چهره‌اش چون خورشيد درخشان گرديد؛ و لباسش چنان سفيد شد كه چشم را خيره می‌كرد.
3ناگاه موسی و الياس نبی ظاهر شدند و با عيسی به گفتگو پرداختند. 4پطرس با مشاهدهٔ اين صحنه، بی‌اختيار گفت: «استاد، چه خوب شد كه ما اينجا هستيم. اگر اجازه بدهيد، سه سايبان بسازم، يكی برای شما، يكی برای موسی، و يكی ديگر برای الياس.»
5هنوز سخن پطرس تمام نشده بود كه ابری درخشان بر ايشان سايه افكند و ندايی از آن در رسيد كه: «اينست فرزند عزيز من كه از او كاملاً خشنودم. از او اطاعت كنيد.»
6با شنيدن اين ندا، شاگردان بر زمين افتاده، از ترس لرزيدند. 7عيسی نزديک شد و دست بر ايشان گذاشت و فرمود: «برخيزيد، نترسيد!»
8هنگامی كه آنان چشمان خود را گشودند، جز عيسی كسی را نديدند.
9در حالی که از تپه پايين می‌آمدند، عيسی به ايشان دستور داد كه پيش از مرگ و زنده شدنش، درباره آنچه كه بالای كوه ديدند، به كسی چيزی نگويند.
10شاگردانش پرسيدند: «چرا روحانیون يهود با اصرار می‌گويند كه قبل از ظهور مسيح، الياس نبی بايد دوباره ظهور كند؟»
11عيسی جواب داد: «حق با آنهاست. الياس بايد بيايد و كارها را روبه‌راه كند. 12در واقع او آمده است ولی كسی او را نشناخت و با او بدرفتاری كردند. حتی من نيز كه مسيح هستم، از دست آنها آزار خواهم ديد.»
13آنگاه شاگردانش فهميدند كه عيسی دربارهٔ يحيای تعميددهنده سخن می‌گويد.
شفای پسر غشی
14وقتی از تپه فرود آمدند، با جمعيت بزرگی روبرو شدند كه منتظرشان بودند. از آن ميان، مردی آمده، در مقابل عيسی زانو زد و گفت: 15«استاد، به پسرم رحم كنيد؛ او غشی است و حمله‌های سخت به او دست می‌دهد، به طوری که خود را در آب و آتش می‌اندازد. 16من او را نزد شاگردان شما آوردم، ولی ايشان نتوانستند او را شفا دهند.»
17عيسی جواب داد: «ای مردم بی‌ايمان و نامطيع! تا كی رفتار شما را تحمل كنم؟ او را نزد من بياوريد.» 18آنگاه عيسی به روح ناپاكی كه در وجود پسر بود، نهيب زد و آن روح بيرون آمد و از آن لحظه، پسر بهبود يافت.
19بعداً شاگردان به طور خصوصی از عيسی پرسيدند: «چرا ما نتوانستيم روح ناپاک را از وجود پسر خارج كنيم؟»
20عيسی گفت: «از آن جهت كه ايمانتان كم است. اگر شما حتی به اندازهٔ دانهٔ خردل نيز ايمان می‌داشتيد، می‌توانستيد به اين كوه بگوييد حركت كند و از شما اطاعت می‌كرد. برای كسی كه ايمان داشته باشد، هيچ كاری غيرممكن نيست. 21ولی اين نوع روح ناپاک از بدن خارج نمی‌شود مگر با دعا و روزه.»
عيسی بار ديگر مرگ خود را پيشگويی می‌کند
22-23در همان روزها كه در جليل به سر می‌بردند، عيسی به ايشان گفت: «بزودی من به دست مردم گرفتار خواهم شد. ايشان مرا خواهند كشت، اما روز سوم باز زنده خواهم شد.» شاگردان با شنيدن اين سخن بسيار غمگين شدند.
پرداخت ماليات خانهٔ خدا
24وقتی به كَفَرناحوم رسيدند، مأموران وصول ماليات خانهٔ خدا پيش پطرس آمده، از او پرسيدند: «آيا استادتان ماليات نمی‌دهد؟» 25پطرس جواب داد: «البته كه می‌دهد.»
سپس وارد خانه شد تا موضوع را به عيسی بگويد. ولی پيش از آنكه سخنی بگويد، عيسی از او پرسيد: «پطرس چه فكر می‌كنی؟ آيا پادشاهان جهان از اتباع خود باج و خراج می‌گيرند، يا از بيگانگانی كه اسير شده‌اند؟»
26-27پطرس جواب داد: «از بيگانگان.»
عيسی فرمود: «خوب، پس اتباع از پرداخت باج و خراج معافند! ولی به هر حال، برای اينكه ايشان را نرنجانيم، به ساحل برو و قلابی به آب بينداز و اولين ماهی‌ای كه گرفتی، دهانش را باز كن؛ سكه‌ای در آن پيدا می‌كنی كه برای ماليات ما دو نفر كافی است. آن را به ايشان بده.»
