Reward for obedience
1‘ “Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.
2‘ “Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.
3‘ “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. 5Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.
6‘ “I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no-one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. 7You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. 8Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
9‘ “I will look on you with favour and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. 10You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. 11I will put my dwelling-place26:11 Or my tabernacle among you, and I will not abhor you. 12I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. 13I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.
Punishment for disobedience
14‘ “But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, 15and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. 17I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no-one is pursuing you.
18‘ “If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over. 19I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze. 20Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit.
21‘ “If you remain hostile towards me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve. 22I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few in number that your roads will be deserted.
23‘ “If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile towards me, 24I myself will be hostile towards you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. 25And I will bring the sword on you to avenge the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. 26When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.
27‘ “If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile towards me, 28then in my anger I will be hostile towards you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. 29You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies26:30 Or your funeral offerings on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. 31I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32I myself will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled. 33I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins. 34Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.
36‘ “As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a wind-blown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no-one is pursuing them. 37They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no-one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies. 38You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you. 39Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors’ sins they will waste away.
40‘ “But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors – their unfaithfulness and their hostility towards me, 41which made me hostile towards them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies – then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, 42I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43For the land will be deserted by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected my laws and abhorred my decrees. 44Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the Lord their God. 45But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.” ’
46These are the decrees, the laws and the regulations that the Lord established at Mount Sinai between himself and the Israelites through Moses.

2Să țineți Sabatele Mele și să cinstiți Sfântul Meu Lăcaș. Eu sunt Domnul.
3Dacă veți urma hotărârile Mele, dacă veți păzi poruncile Mele și le veți împlini, 4atunci vă voi da ploi la vreme, pământul își va da rodul lui, și pomii câmpului își vor da roadele lor. 5Secerișul va ține până la culesul viei, și culesul viei va ține până la semănat. Veți mânca pâine din belșug și veți trăi în siguranță în țara voastră.
6Vă voi da pace în țară și astfel vă veți culca și nimeni nu vă va înspăimânta. Voi nimici fiarele sălbatice din țară, și sabia nu va trece prin țara voastră. 7Veți urmări pe dușmanii voștri, și ei vor cădea înaintea voastră loviți de sabie. 8Cinci dintre voi vor urmări o sută, și o sută vor urmări zece mii; dușmanii voștri vor cădea înaintea voastră loviți de sabie.
9Mă voi întoarce spre voi, vă voi face roditori, vă voi înmulți și Îmi voi ține legământul Meu cu voi. 10Veți mânca din recolta cea veche și va trebui să scoateți afară recolta cea veche pentru a‑i face loc celei noi. 11Îmi voi așeza Locuința în mijlocul vostru și sufletul Meu nu vă va detesta. 12Voi umbla printre voi și voi fi Dumnezeul vostru, iar voi veți fi poporul Meu. 13Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, Care v‑am scos din țara Egiptului ca să nu mai fiți robii lor. Eu am rupt legăturile jugului vostru și v‑am făcut să mergeți cu capul ridicat.
Blesteme în urma neascultării
(Deut. 28:15-68)
14Dar dacă nu Mă veți asculta și nu veți împlini toate aceste porunci, 15dacă veți respinge hotărârile Mele și veți detesta legile Mele până într-acolo, încât nu veți mai împlini toate poruncile Mele, ci veți rupe legământul Meu, 16iată ce vă voi face: voi aduce groaza peste voi. Tifosul și frigurile vor face să vi se stingă ochii și să piară viața din voi. Vă veți semăna degeaba sămânța, căci o vor mânca dușmanii voștri. 17Îmi voi întoarce fața împotriva voastră și veți fi învinși de dușmanii voștri. Cei ce vă urăsc vă vor stăpâni și veți fugi chiar și atunci când nu veți fi urmăriți.
18Dacă totuși, în pofida acestor lucruri, nu Mă veți asculta, atunci și Eu voi continua să vă pedepsesc de șapte ori mai mult pentru păcatele voastre. 19Voi frânge mândria puterii voastre, vă voi face cerul ca fierul și pământul ca bronzul. 20Vi se va risipi puterea fără rost: pământul vostru nu‑și va mai da rodul, și pomii din țară nu‑și vor mai da roadele.
21Dacă și după aceasta veți continua să‑Mi fiți potrivnici și nu veți voi să Mă ascultați, atunci vă voi lovi de șapte ori mai mult potrivit cu păcatele voastre. 22Voi trimite fiarele câmpului împotriva voastră, care vă vor lăsa fără copii și vă vor nimici vitele. Ele vă vor împuțina și astfel drumurile voastre vor rămâne pustii.
23Dacă nici după aceste pedepse nu vă veți lăsa disciplinați de Mine, ci Îmi veți fi împotrivitori, 24atunci și Eu vă voi fi împotrivitor: vă voi lovi de șapte ori mai mult pentru păcatele voastre. 25Voi aduce sabia împotriva voastră, care va răzbuna legământul încălcat. Dacă vă veți aduna în cetățile voastre voi trimite molima printre voi și veți fi dați în mâna dușmanului. 26Când voi aduce lipsă de pâine, zece femei vă vor coace pâine într‑un singur cuptor și vă vor da pâinea cu cântarul. Dar, cu toate că o veți mânca, tot nu vă veți sătura.
27Dacă nici după acestea nu Mă veți asculta, ci Îmi veți fi împotrivitori, 28atunci și Eu, în mânia Mea, vă voi fi împotrivitor. Eu Însumi vă voi pedepsi de șapte ori mai mult pentru păcatele voastre. 29Vă veți hrăni cu carnea fiilor voștri și a fiicelor voastre. 30Vă voi nimici locurile înalte și vă voi dărâma altarele pentru tămâiere. Cadavrele voastre le voi arunca peste cadavrele idolilor voștri, și sufletul Meu vă va detesta. 31Vă voi lăsa cetățile pustii, vă voi pustii locurile sfinte și nu‑Mi voi mai găsi plăcere în mireasma jertfelor voastre. 32Vă voi devasta țara, astfel încât dușmanii voștri care vor locui în ea vor rămâne încremeniți. 33Vă voi împrăștia printre neamuri și voi scoate sabia împotriva voastră. Țara vă va fi pustiită, și cetățile vă vor rămâne pustii. 34Astfel țara se va bucura de Sabatele ei în toate zilele în care va rămâne pustie, însă voi veți fi în țara dușmanilor voștri. Țara se va odihni și se va bucura de Sabatele ei. 35În toate zilele cât va fi pustie, se va odihni cum nu s‑a putut odihni în timpul Sabatelor voastre, când locuiați în ea.
36Cât despre cei care vor fi lăsați, le voi trimite frica în inimi în țara dușmanilor lor. Chiar și foșnetul unei frunze luate de vânt îi va pune pe fugă. Vor fugi cum fuge cineva de sabie și vor cădea, deși nu va fi niciun urmăritor. 37Se vor împiedica unii de alții, ca în fața sabiei, deși nu va fi niciun urmăritor. Și nu veți avea nicio putere ca să vă împotriviți dușmanilor voștri. 38Veți pieri între neamuri, iar țara dușmanilor voștri vă va devora. 39Aceia dintre voi care vor fi lăsați vor putrezi în țările dușmanilor voștri din cauza nelegiuirilor lor și vor putrezi și din cauza nelegiuirilor părinților lor.
40Dar dacă ei își vor mărturisi nelegiuirile lor și nelegiuirile părinților lor, necredincioșia lor, prin care au fost necredincioși față de Mine, precum și modul în care au umblat în ostilitate față de Mine, 41– păcate din cauza cărora și Eu am umblat în ostilitate față de ei și i‑am dus în țara dușmanilor lor – dacă inima lor necircumcisă se va smeri și ei vor plăti pentru nelegiuirea lor, 42atunci Îmi voi aduce aminte de legământul Meu cu Iacov, Îmi voi aduce aminte de legământul Meu cu Isaac și de legământul Meu cu Avraam și Îmi voi aduce aminte de țară. 43Țara însă va fi părăsită de ei și se va bucura de Sabatele ei în perioada în care va rămâne pustie, iar ei vor plăti pentru nelegiuirea lor deoarece au respins poruncile Mele și sufletul lor a detestat orânduirile Mele. 44Dar, cu toate acestea, chiar și atunci când vor fi în țara dușmanilor lor, nu‑i voi respinge și nu‑i voi detesta până acolo încât să‑i nimicesc și să rup legământul Meu cu ei, căci Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul lor. 45De dragul lor, Îmi voi aduce aminte de legământul cu cei dintâi45 Cu referire la strămoșii lor., prin care i‑am scos din țara Egiptului, înaintea ochilor neamurilor, ca să fiu Dumnezeul lor. Eu sunt Domnul.»“
46Acestea sunt hotărârile, judecățile și legile pe care Domnul le‑a statornicit între El și fiii lui Israel la muntele Sinai, prin Moise.
