In Hebrew texts 8:1-4 is numbered 7:26-29, and 8:5-32 is numbered 8:1-28. 1Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh and say to him, “This is what the Lord says: let my people go, so that they may worship me. 2If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs on your whole country. 3The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. 4The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.” ’
5Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron, “Stretch out your hand with your staff over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.” ’
6So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. 7But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, ‘Pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.’
9Moses said to Pharaoh, ‘I leave to you the honour of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.’
10‘Tomorrow,’ Pharaoh said.
Moses replied, ‘It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no-one like the Lord our God. 11The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.’
12After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. 13And the Lord did what Moses asked. The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields. 14They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. 15But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
The plague of gnats
16Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron, “Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the ground,” and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.’ 17They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came on people and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats. 18But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not.
Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, 19the magicians said to Pharaoh, ‘This is the finger of God.’ But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said.
The plague of flies
20Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh as he goes to the river and say to him, “This is what the Lord says: let my people go, so that they may worship me. 21If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies; even the ground will be covered with them.
22‘ “But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land. 23I will make a distinction8:23 Septuagint and Vulgate; Hebrew will put a deliverance between my people and your people. This sign will occur tomorrow.” ’
24And the Lord did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.
25Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, ‘Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.’
26But Moses said, ‘That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer the Lord our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. And if we offer sacrifices that are detestable in their eyes, will they not stone us? 27We must take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, as he commands us.’
28Pharaoh said, ‘I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.’
29Moses answered, ‘As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the Lord, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh and his officials and his people. Only let Pharaoh be sure that he does not act deceitfully again by not letting the people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.’
30Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord, 31and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained. 32But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go.
1Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Puntahan mo ang Faraon at sabihin mo sa kanya, ‘Ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoon: Paalisin mo ang mga mamamayan ko para makasamba sila sa akin. 2Kung hindi mo sila paaalisin, pupunuin ko ng mga palaka ang iyong bansa. 3Mapupuno ng palaka ang Ilog ng Nilo at papasok ito sa palasyo mo, sa kwarto at kahit sa higaan mo. Papasok din ang mga ito sa bahay ng mga opisyal at mga mamamayan mo, at pati sa mga pugon at sa pinagmamasahan ng harina. 4Tatalunan ka ng mga palaka pati na ang mga mamamayan at ang lahat ng opisyal mo.’ ”
5Sinabi pa ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Sabihin mo kay Aaron na iunat niya ang kanyang baston sa mga ilog, sapa, at mga kanal, at mapupuno ng palaka ang buong Egipto.”
6Kaya iniunat ni Aaron ang kanyang baston sa mga tubig ng Egipto, at lumabas ang mga palaka at napuno ang buong Egipto. 7Pero ginawa rin ito ng mga salamangkero sa pamamagitan ng kanilang salamangka. Napalabas din nila ang mga palaka sa tubig ng Egipto.
8Ipinatawag ng Faraon sina Moises at Aaron, at sinabi sa kanila, “Manalangin kayo sa Panginoon na tanggalin niya ang mga palakang ito sa aking bansa, at paaalisin ko ang mga kababayan nʼyo para makapaghandog sila sa Panginoon.”
9Sinabi ni Moises sa Faraon, “Sabihin mo sa akin kung kailan ako mananalangin para sa inyo, sa mga opisyal at sa mga mamamayan mo, para mawala ang mga palakang ito sa inyo at sa mga bahay ninyo. At ang matitira na lang na palaka ay ang mga nasa Ilog ng Nilo.”
10Sumagot ang Faraon, “Ipanalangin mo ako bukas.”
Sinabi ni Moises, “Matutupad ito ayon sa sinabi nʼyo, para malaman nʼyo na walang ibang katulad ng Panginoon naming Dios. 11Mawawala ang lahat ng palaka sa inyo maliban sa nasa Ilog ng Nilo.”
12Pag-alis nila Moises at Aaron sa harap ng Faraon, nanalangin si Moises sa Panginoon na alisin na ang mga palaka na ipinadala niya sa Egipto. 13At ginawa ng Panginoon ang ipinakiusap ni Moises. Namatay ang mga palaka sa mga bahay, mga hardin at sa mga bukid. 14Tinipon ito ng mga Egipcio at ibinunton, dahil ditoʼy bumaho ang buong Egipto. 15Pero nang makita ng Faraon na wala na ang mga palaka, nagmatigas na naman siya, at ayaw niyang makinig kina Moises at Aaron, gaya ng sinabi ng Panginoon.
Ang Salot na mga Lamok
16Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Sabihin mo kay Aaron na ihampas niya ang kanyang baston sa lupa, at magiging lamok8:16 lamok: o, kuto. ang mga alikabok sa buong lupain ng Egipto.” 17Sinunod nila ito, kaya nang hampasin ni Aaron ng kanyang baston ang lupa, naging lamok ang mga alikabok sa buong lupain ng Egipto. At dumapo ang mga ito sa mga tao at mga hayop. 18Tinangka rin ng mga salamangkero na gayahin ito sa pamamagitan ng kanilang salamangka pero nabigo sila. Patuloy na nagsidapo ang mga lamok sa mga tao at mga hayop.
19Sinabi ng mga salamangkero sa Faraon, “Ang Dios ang may gawa nito!” Pero matigas pa rin ang puso ng Faraon, at hindi siya nakinig kina Moises at Aaron, gaya ng sinabi ng Panginoon.
Ang Salot na mga Langaw
20Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Bumangon ka nang maaga bukas at abangan mo ang Faraon habang papunta siya sa ilog. Sabihin mo sa kanya na ito ang sinasabi ko, ‘Paalisin mo ang mga mamamayan ko para makasamba sila sa akin. 21Kung hindi mo sila paaalisin, padadalhan kita ng maraming langaw, pati na ang mga opisyal at mga mamamayan mo. Mapupuno ng mga langaw ang mga bahay ninyo, at matatabunan ng mga ito ang lupa. 22Pero hindi ito mararanasan sa lupain ng Goshen kung saan naninirahan ang mga mamamayan ko; hindi dadapo ang mga langaw sa lugar na iyon, para malaman nila na akong Panginoon ay nasa lupaing iyon. 23Hindi magiging pareho ang trato ko sa mga mamamayan ko at sa iyong mga mamamayan. Ang himalang ito ay mangyayari bukas.’ ”
24Nagpadala nga ang Panginoon ng maraming langaw sa palasyo ng Faraon at sa mga bahay ng kanyang mga opisyal, at naminsala ang mga ito sa buong lupain ng Egipto.
25Kaya ipinatawag ng Faraon sina Moises at Aaron, at sinabi, “Sige, maghandog na kayo sa Dios ninyo, pero rito lang sa Egipto.”
26Sumagot si Moises, “Hindi pwedeng dito kami maghandog sa Egipto, dahil ang mga handog namin sa Panginoon naming Dios ay kasuklam-suklam sa mga Egipcio. At kung maghahandog kami ng mga handog na kasuklam-suklam sa kanila, siguradong babatuhin nila kami. 27Kailangang umalis kami ng tatlong araw papunta sa ilang para maghandog sa Panginoon naming Dios, gaya ng iniutos niya sa amin.”
28Sinabi ng Faraon, “Papayagan ko kayong maghandog sa Panginoon na inyong Dios sa ilang pero huwag kayong lalayo. Ngayon, ipanalangin ninyo ako.”
29Sumagot si Moises, “Pag-alis ko rito, mananalangin ako sa Panginoon. At bukas, mawawala ang mga langaw sa inyo, at sa mga opisyal at mamamayan mo. Pero siguraduhin mo na hindi mo na kami lolokohing muli at pipigilang umalis para maghandog sa Panginoon.”
30Umalis sila Moises at nanalangin sa Panginoon, 31at ginawa ng Panginoon ang pakiusap ni Moises. Umalis ang mga langaw sa lahat ng Egipcio. Walang natira kahit isa. 32Pero nagmatigas pa rin ang Faraon at hindi niya pinaalis ang mga Israelita.
