The plague on livestock
1Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to Pharaoh and say to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may worship me.’ 2If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back, 3the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field – on your horses, donkeys and camels and on your cattle, sheep and goats. 4But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.” ’
5The Lord set a time and said, ‘Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.’ 6And the next day the Lord did it: all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died. 7Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.
The plague of boils
8Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and let Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. 9It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.’
10So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals. 11The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. 12But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses.
The plague of hail
13Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: let my people go, so that they may worship me, 14or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no-one like me in all the earth. 15For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16But I have raised you up9:16 Or have spared you for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 17You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. 18Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. 19Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.” ’
20Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.
22Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand towards the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt – on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.’ 23When Moses stretched out his staff towards the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. 25Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields – both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. 26The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.
27Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. ‘This time I have sinned,’ he said to them. ‘The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don’t have to stay any longer.’
29Moses replied, ‘When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. 30But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God.’
31(The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bloom. 32The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)
33Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands towards the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land. 34When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: he and his officials hardened their hearts. 35So Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses.
Ang Salot sa mga Hayop
1Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Puntahan mo ang Faraon at sabihin sa kanya, ‘Ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng mga Hebreo: Paalisin mo ang mga mamamayan ko para makasamba sila sa akin. 2Kung hindi mo sila paaalisin, 3padadalhan ko ng nakamamatay na sakit ang mga hayop mo na nasa bukid – kabayo, asno, kamelyo, baka, tupa at kambing. 4Hindi magiging pareho ang trato ko sa mga hayop ng mga Israelita at sa mga hayop ng mga Egipcio, at walang mamamatay sa mga hayop ng mga Israelita.’ ”
5-6Ipinaalam ng Panginoon na gagawin niya ito kinabukasan, at nangyari nga. Namatay ang lahat ng hayop ng mga Egipcio, pero walang namatay ni isa man lang sa mga hayop ng mga Israelita. 7Nagpadala ang Faraon ng mga tao at nalaman niya na walang namatay kahit isa sa mga hayop ng mga Israelita. Pero matigas pa rin ang puso niya at hindi pinaalis ang mga Israelita.
Ang Salot na mga Bukol
8Sinabi ng Panginoon kina Moises at Aaron, “Kumuha kayo ng ilang dakot ng abo sa pugon at isasaboy ito ni Moises sa hangin sa harap ng Faraon. 9Kakalat ang mga abo sa buong Egipto, at dahil dito tutubuan ng mga bukol ang katawan ng mga tao at mga hayop.”
10Kaya kumuha ng abo sa pugon sila Moises at Aaron, at tumayo sa harap ng Faraon. Isinaboy ito ni Moises sa hangin, at tinubuan ng mga bukol ang mga tao at mga hayop. 11Kahit na ang mga salamangkero ay hindi makaharap kay Moises dahil tinubuan din sila ng mga bukol katulad ng lahat ng Egipcio. 12Pero pinatigas ng Panginoon ang puso ng Faraon, at hindi siya nakinig kina Moises at Aaron, gaya ng sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises.
Ang Pag-ulan ng Yelo
13Pagkatapos, sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Bumangon ka nang maaga bukas at puntahan mo ang Faraon, at sabihin sa kanya, ‘Ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoon, ang Dios ng mga Hebreo: Paalisin mo ang mga mamamayan ko para makasamba sila sa akin. 14Dahil kung hindi, magpapadala ako ng matinding salot na magpaparusa sa iyo, sa mga opisyal at mga mamamayan mo para malaman mo na wala akong katulad sa buong mundo. 15Kahit noon pa, kaya na kitang patayin pati na ang mga mamamayan mo sa pamamagitan ng karamdaman, at wala na sana kayo ngayon. 16Pero pinayagan kitang mabuhay dahil dito: para makita mo ang kapangyarihan ko at para makilala ang pangalan ko sa buong mundo. 17Pero nagyayabang ka pa rin sa mamamayan ko, at hindi mo pa rin sila pinapayagang umalis. 18Kaya bukas, sa ganito ring oras, magpapaulan ako ng mga yelong parang bato, at ang lakas ng pagbagsak nitoʼy hindi pa nararanasan ng Egipto mula nang maging bansa ito. 19Kaya iutos mo ngayon na isilong ang lahat ng hayop mo at ang lahat ng alipin mo na nasa bukid, dahil ang sinumang nasa labas, tao man o hayop ay mamamatay kapag tinamaan ng mga yelong parang bato.’ ”
20Natakot ang ibang mga opisyal ng Faraon sa sinabi ng Panginoon, kaya nagmadali silang isilong ang mga alipin at mga hayop nila.
21Pero may ilan na binalewala ang babala ng Panginoon; pinabayaan lang nila ang mga hayop at alipin nila sa labas.
22Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises, “Itaas mo ang baston mo sa langit para umulan ng mga yelong parang bato sa buong Egipto – sa mga tao, mga hayop at sa lahat ng pananim.” 23Kaya itinaas niya ang kanyang baston, at nagpadala ang Panginoon ng kulog, mga yelo na parang bato, at kidlat. Ang mga yelong pinaulan ng Panginoon sa lupain ng Egipto 24ang pinakamatindi mula nang maging bansa ang Egipto. Habang umuulan, patuloy naman ang pagkidlat. 25Namatay lahat ang hayop at mga tao na naiwan sa labas, at pati na ang mga halaman at punongkahoy. 26Tanging sa Goshen lang hindi umulan ng yelo kung saan nakatira ang mga Israelita.
27Ipinatawag ng Faraon sila Moises at Aaron. Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Sa pagkakataong ito, inaamin ko na nagkasala ako. Tama ang Panginoon, at ako at ang mga mamamayan ko ang mali. 28Pakiusapan ninyo ang Panginoon na itigil na niya ang matinding kulog na ito at ang pag-ulan ng yelo. Paaalisin ko na kayo, hindi na kayo dapat pang manatili rito.”
29Sumagot si Moises, “Kapag nakalabas na ako ng lungsod, itataas ko ang aking kamay sa Panginoon para manalangin. At titigil ang kulog at hindi na uulan ng yelo, para malaman mo na pag-aari ng Panginoon ang mundo. 30Pero alam kong ikaw at ang mga opisyal mo ay hindi pa rin natatakot sa Panginoong Dios.”
31(Nasira ang mga pananim na flax9:31 flax: halaman na ginagawang telang linen. at sebada,9:31 sebada: ang butil na ito ay ginagawang tinapay at inumin. dahil aanihin na noon ang sebada at namumulaklak na ang flax. 32Pero hindi nasira ang mga trigo9:32 mga trigo: Ang salitang Hebreo nito ay tumutukoy sa dalawang klase ng trigo. dahil hindi pa aanihin ang mga ito.)
33Umalis si Moises sa harapan ng Faraon at lumabas ng lungsod. Itinaas niya ang kanyang kamay sa Panginoon para manalangin at huminto ang kulog, ang pag-ulan ng yelong parang bato at ang ulan. 34Pagkakita ng Faraon na huminto na ang ulan, ang yelo at ang kulog, muli siyang nagkasala. Nagmatigas siya at ang mga opisyal niya. 35Sa pagmamatigas niya, hindi niya pinaalis ang mga Israelita, gaya ng sinabi ng Panginoon kay Moises.
