Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King
1As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
4This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”21:5 Zech. 9:9
6The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

10When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Jesus at the Temple
12Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13“It is written,” he said to them, “ ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’21:13 Isaiah 56:7 but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’21:13 Jer. 7:11”
14The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant.
16“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.
“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,
“ ‘From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise’21:16 Psalm 8:2 (see Septuagint)?”
17And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree
18Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
20When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
The Authority of Jesus Questioned
23Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
24Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 26But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”
27So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
29“ ‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
30“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
31“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”
“The first,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
The Parable of the Tenants
33“Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 34When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35“The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. 36Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38“But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ 39So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40“Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
“ ‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’21:42 Psalm 118:22,23?
43“Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. 44Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”21:44 Some manuscripts do not have verse 44.
45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them. 46They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
(Mc. 11:1-10; Lc. 19:28-38; In. 12:12-19)
1Când s-au apropiat de Ierusalim și au ajuns la Betfaghe, înspre Muntele Măslinilor, Isus a trimis doi ucenici, 2zicându-le: „Duceți-vă în satul dinaintea voastră. Imediat ce intrați în el veți găsi un măgar legat și un măgăruș împreună cu el. Dezlegați-i și aduceți-i la Mine! 3Dacă vă va spune cineva ceva, să-i ziceți că Domnul are nevoie de ei. Și imediat îi va trimite.“ 4Acest lucru s-a întâmplat ca să se împlinească ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul care zice:
5„Spuneți-i fiicei Sionului:
«Iată că Împăratul tău vine la tine,
blând și călare pe un măgar,
alături de un măgăruș, mânzul unei măgărițe.»“5 Vezi Is. 62:11 și Zah. 9:9.
6Ucenicii s-au dus și au făcut așa cum le poruncise Isus. 7Au adus măgarul și măgărușul, și-au pus hainele peste ei, iar Isus a șezut pe ele. 8Cea mai mare parte din mulțime își așternea hainele pe drum8 Omagiu adus unui rege (vezi 2 Regi 9:13)., iar alții tăiau ramuri din pomi și le așterneau pe drum. 9Mulțimile care mergeau înaintea lui Isus și cele care-L urmau strigau:
„Osana9 Gr.: hosanna, o transliterare în greacă a sintagmei ebraice hoșia na. În limba română s-a înrădăcinat sub forma Osana. Sintagma provine din Ps. 118:25: Oh, DOAMNE, Te rugăm, mântuiește! (anna YHWH hoșia na). Cuvântul hoșia este un verb la imperativ, care tradus înseamnă: mântuiește. Particula na amplifică valoarea emfatică a imperativului și înseamnă te rog/te rugăm. De observat că litera ebraică ș (sh) n-a putut fi redată în LXX (traducerea în greacă a VT ebraic) din cauză că nu există în alfabetul grecesc. Acolo cuvântul începe cu accentul răspicat pe litera o, care îl transformă într-un h: hosanna. Vulgata păstrează forma Osanna., Fiul lui David!
Binecuvântat este Cel Ce vine în Numele Domnului!9 Vezi Ps. 118:26.
Osana în locurile preaînalte!“
10Când a intrat în Ierusalim, toată cetatea a început să se agite, întrebându-se:
– Cine este Acesta?
11Mulțimile răspundeau:
– Acesta este Profetul Isus din Nazaretul Galileei!
Isus alungă comercianții din Templu
(Mc. 11:15-19; Lc. 19:45-47; In. 2:13-17)
12Isus a intrat în Templu și i-a scos afară pe toți cei ce vindeau și cumpărau în Templu. A răsturnat mesele schimbătorilor de bani și scaunele celor ce vindeau porumbei 13și le-a zis: „Este scris:
«Casa Mea va fi numită
o casă de rugăciune»13 Vezi Is. 56:7.,
dar voi faceți din ea o peșteră de tâlhari!“13 Vezi Ier. 7:11.
14Au venit la El, în Templu, niște orbi și ologi, iar El i-a vindecat.
15Dar conducătorii preoților și cărturarii, când au văzut lucrurile minunate pe care le făcea și pe copiii care strigau în Templu: „Osana, Fiul lui David!“, au fost indignați 16și I-au zis:
– Auzi ce spun aceștia?
Isus le-a răspuns:
– Da. N-ați citit niciodată:
„Din gura copilașilor și a sugarilor
Ți-ai pregătit laudă!“16 Vezi Ps. 8:2.?
17Și, lăsându-i, a ieșit din cetate, S-a îndreptat spre Betania și a înnoptat acolo.
Puterea rugăciunii
(Mc. 11:12-14, 20-24)
18Dimineața, în timp ce Se întorcea în cetate, lui Isus I s-a făcut foame. 19A văzut un smochin lângă drum și S-a dus spre el, dar n-a găsit nimic în el, în afară de frunze. Atunci i-a zis: „În veci să nu mai iasă rod din tine!“ Și deodată smochinul s-a uscat.
20Ucenicii au rămas uimiți când au văzut acest lucru și L-au întrebat:
– Cum de s-a uscat smochinul așa deodată?
21Isus, răspunzând, le-a zis:
– Adevărat vă spun că, dacă ați avea credință și nu v-ați îndoi, ați face nu doar ce-am făcut Eu smochinului, ci, chiar dacă ați zice acestui munte: „Ridică-te și aruncă-te în mare!“, s-ar întâmpla întocmai! 22Toate lucrurile pe care le cereți cu credință în rugăciune, le veți primi.
Autoritatea lui Isus
(Mc. 11:27-33; Lc. 20:1-8)
23A intrat apoi în Templu.
În timp ce dădea învățătură, s-au apropiat de El conducătorii preoților și bătrânii poporului, zicând:
– Cu ce autoritate faci aceste lucruri? Și cine Ți-a dat această autoritate?
24Isus, răspunzând, le-a zis:
– Vă voi întreba și Eu un singur lucru, iar dacă Îmi veți răspunde, vă voi spune și Eu cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri. 25Botezul lui Ioan de unde era? Din cer sau de la oameni?
Ei însă vorbeau între ei, zicând: „Dacă vom răspunde: «Din cer!», ne va întreba: «Atunci de ce nu l-ați crezut?», 26iar dacă vom răspunde: «De la oameni!», ne temem de mulțime, fiindcă toți îl consideră pe Ioan un profet.“
27Așa că, răspunzându-I lui Isus, au zis:
– Nu știm!
Atunci și El le-a zis:
– Nici Eu nu vă spun cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri.
Pilda celor doi fii
28– Ce credeți? Un om avea doi copii. S-a apropiat de primul și i-a zis: „Copile, du-te și lucrează astăzi în vie!“ 29Dar el, răspunzând, a zis: „Nu vreau!“ Mai târziu însă i-a părut rău și s-a dus. 30Apoi tatăl s-a apropiat și de celălalt și i-a spus același lucru. Acesta, răspunzând, a zis: „Da, stăpâne!“, dar nu s-a dus. 31Care dintre cei doi a făcut voia tatălui?
Ei au zis:
– Primul!
Isus le-a zis:
– Adevărat vă spun că vameșii și prostituatele merg înaintea voastră în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu! 32Căci a venit Ioan la voi pe calea dreptății și nu l-ați crezut. Dar vameșii și prostituatele l-au crezut. Iar voi, deși ați văzut aceasta, nu v-a părut rău mai târziu, ca să puteți astfel să-l credeți.
Pilda viticultorilor
(Mc. 12:1-12; Lc. 20:9-19)
33– Ascultați o altă pildă: era un om, stăpânul unei case, care a plantat o vie. A împrejmuit-o cu un gard, a săpat un teasc în ea și a construit un turn de pază.33 Vezi Is. 5:1-2, 7. Apoi a arendat-o unor viticultori și a plecat într-o călătorie. 34Când s-a apropiat vremea roadelor, și-a trimis sclavii la viticultori, ca să ia roadele ce i se cuvin.
35Viticultorii însă i-au apucat pe sclavii lui și pe unul l-au bătut, pe altul l-au omorât, iar pe altul l-au ucis cu pietre. 36Stăpânul a trimis apoi alți sclavi, mai mulți decât primii, dar și cu aceștia au făcut la fel. 37La urmă, l-a trimis la ei pe fiul său, zicând: „Pe fiul meu îl vor respecta!“
38Dar viticultorii, când l-au văzut pe fiu, și-au zis între ei: „Acesta este moștenitorul! Haideți să-l omorâm și să-i luăm moștenirea!“ 39Și l-au apucat, l-au scos afară din vie și l-au omorât.
40Așadar, când va veni stăpânul viei, ce le va face el acelor viticultori?
41Ei au răspuns:
– Pe răii aceia îi va nimici cumplit, iar via o va arenda altor viticultori, care-i vor da roadele la vremea lor.41 Sau: în anotimpurile lor.
42Isus i-a întrebat:
– N-ați citit niciodată în Scripturi că:
„Piatra pe care au respins-o zidarii
a devenit Piatra din capul unghiului.
Domnul a făcut acest lucru
și este minunat în ochii noștri!“42 Vezi Ps. 118:22-23.?
43De aceea vă spun că Împărăția lui Dumnezeu va fi luată de la voi și va fi dată unui neam care va face roadele ei. 44Cel ce cade peste această piatră va fi zdrobit, iar pe acela peste care cade ea, îl va spulbera.
45Când conducătorii preoților și fariseii I-au auzit pildele, au înțeles că Isus vorbește despre ei. 46Și au căutat să pună mâna pe El, dar le-a fost frică de mulțimi, pentru că acestea Îl considerau profet.
