Job
1Then Job replied to the Lord:
2“I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.
4“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
Epilogue
7After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.
10After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver42:11 Hebrew him a kesitah; a kesitah was a unit of money of unknown weight and value. and a gold ring.
12The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.
16After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17And so Job died, an old man and full of years.
Răspunsul lui Iov
1Atunci Iov I‑a răspuns Domnului și a zis:
2„Știu că Tu poți face orice lucru
și că nimic nu‑Ți poate împiedica planurile.
3Tu ai întrebat: «Cine este cel ce‑Mi întunecă sfatul,
vorbind fără să cunoască?»
Într-adevăr, am spus lucruri pe care nu le‑am înțeles,
lucruri prea minunate pentru mine,
pe care nu le‑am cunoscut.
4Tu ai zis: «Ascultă și voi vorbi!
Te voi întreba și Mă vei învăța.»
5Urechea mea a auzit despre Tine,
dar acum ochiul meu Te‑a văzut.
6De aceea mă disprețuiesc
și mă pocăiesc în țărână și cenușă.“
Epilog
7După ce Domnul i‑a spus aceste cuvinte lui Iov, Domnul i‑a zis lui Elifaz temanitul: „Mânia Mea s‑a aprins împotriva ta și împotriva celor doi prieteni ai tăi, căci nu ați vorbit drept despre Mine ca robul Meu Iov. 8De aceea, ia acum șapte tauri și șapte berbeci, duceți‑vă la robul Meu Iov și aduceți o ardere‑de‑tot pentru voi. Robul Meu Iov să se roage pentru voi și Eu voi primi rugăciunea lui și nu vă voi face după nebunia voastră. Căci n‑ați vorbit drept despre Mine ca robul Meu Iov.“ 9Astfel, Elifaz temanitul, Bildad șuhitul și Țofar naamatitul au făcut ceea ce le‑a zis Domnul. Și Domnul i‑a înălțat fața lui Iov.
10După ce s‑a rugat Iov pentru prietenii săi, Domnul i‑a redat bunăstarea; i‑a dat de două ori mai mult decât a avut înainte. 11Toți frații și surorile sale și oricine l‑a cunoscut înainte au venit și au mâncat cu el în casa lui. L‑au compătimit și l‑au mângâiat pentru tot necazul pe care l‑a adus Domnul asupra lui. Fiecare i‑a dat câte un chesita11 Unitate de măsură arhaică având origine și greutate necunoscute. și câte un inel de aur. 12Domnul a binecuvântat sfârșitul vieții lui Iov mai mult decât începutul acesteia. El a avut paisprezece mii de oi, șase mii de cămile, o mie de boi și o mie de măgari. 13A avut șapte fii și trei fiice. 14Celei dintâi i‑a pus numele Iemima, celei de‑a doua Cheția și celei de‑a treia Cheren-Hapuch. 15În toată țara nu erau femei atât de frumoase ca fiicele lui Iov. Tatăl lor le‑a dat o moștenire în mijlocul fraților lor. 16Iov a mai trăit după aceea o sută patruzeci de ani. El i‑a văzut pe fiii săi și pe fiii fiilor săi până la a patra generație. 17Iov a murit bătrân și sătul de zile.
