A Woman Pours Perfume on Jesus at Bethany
1The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were plotting to arrest Jesus secretly. They wanted to kill him. 2“But not during the feast,” they said. “The people may stir up trouble.”
3Jesus was in Bethany. He was at the table in the home of Simon, who had a skin disease. A woman came with a special sealed jar. It contained very expensive perfume made out of pure nard. She broke the jar open and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head.
4Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another, “Why waste this perfume? 5It could have been sold for more than a year’s pay. The money could have been given to poor people.” So they found fault with the woman.
6“Leave her alone,” Jesus said. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7You will always have poor people with you. You can help them any time you want to. But you will not always have me. 8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body to prepare me to be buried. 9What I’m about to tell you is true. What she has done will be told anywhere the good news is preached all over the world. It will be told in memory of her.”
10Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 disciples. He went to the chief priests to hand Jesus over to them. 11They were delighted to hear that he would do this. They promised to give Judas money. So he watched for the right time to hand Jesus over to them.
The Last Supper
12It was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. That was the time to sacrifice the Passover lamb. Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?”
13So he sent out two of his disciples. He told them, “Go into the city. A man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14He will enter a house. Say to its owner, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is my guest room? Where can I eat the Passover meal with my disciples?” ’ 15He will show you a large upstairs room. It will have furniture and will be ready. Prepare for us to eat there.”
16The disciples left and went into the city. They found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover meal.
17When evening came, Jesus arrived with the 12 disciples. 18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, “What I’m about to tell you is true. One of you who is eating with me will hand me over to my enemies.”
19The disciples became sad. One by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20“It is one of you,” Jesus replied. “It is the one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who hands over the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, “Take it. This is my body.”
23Then he took a cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. All of them drank from it.
24“This is my blood of the covenant,” he said to them. “It is poured out for many. 25What I’m about to tell you is true. I won’t drink wine with you again until the day I drink it in God’s kingdom.”
26Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Says That the Disciples Will Turn Away
27“You will all turn away,” Jesus told the disciples. “It is written,
“ ‘I will strike the shepherd down.
Then the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zechariah 13:7)
28But after I rise from the dead, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
29Peter said, “All the others may turn away. But I will not.”
30“What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus answered. “It will happen today, in fact tonight. Before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will say three times that you don’t know me.”
31But Peter would not give in. He said, “I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.” And all the others said the same thing.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
32Jesus and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane. Jesus said to them, “Sit here while I pray.” 33He took Peter, James and John along with him. He began to be very upset and troubled. 34“My soul is very sad. I feel close to death,” he said to them. “Stay here. Keep watch.”
35He went a little farther. Then he fell to the ground. He prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass by him. 36“Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”
37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38Watch and pray. Then you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
39Once more Jesus went away and prayed the same thing. 40Then he came back. Again he found them sleeping. They couldn’t keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him.
41Jesus returned the third time. He said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look! The Son of Man is about to be handed over to sinners. 42Get up! Let us go! Here comes the one who is handing me over to them!”
Jesus Is Arrested
43Just as Jesus was speaking, Judas appeared. He was one of the 12 disciples. A crowd was with him. They were carrying swords and clubs. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders had sent them.
44Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, had arranged a signal with them. “The one I kiss is the man,” he said. “Arrest him and have the guards lead him away.” 45So Judas went to Jesus at once. Judas said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed Jesus. 46The men grabbed Jesus and arrested him. 47Then one of those standing nearby pulled his sword out. He struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48“Am I leading a band of armed men against you?” asked Jesus. “Do you have to come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49Every day I was with you. I taught in the temple courtyard, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.” 50Then everyone left him and ran away.
51A young man was following Jesus. The man was wearing nothing but a piece of linen cloth. When the crowd grabbed him, 52he ran away naked. He left his clothing behind.
Jesus Is Taken to the Sanhedrin
53The crowd took Jesus to the high priest. All the chief priests, the elders, and the teachers of the law came together. 54Not too far away, Peter followed Jesus. He went right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards. He warmed himself at the fire.
55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for something to use against Jesus. They wanted to put him to death. But they did not find any proof. 56Many witnesses lied about him. But their stories did not agree.
57Then some of them stood up. Here is what those false witnesses said about him. 58“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made by human hands. In three days I will build another temple, not made by human hands.’ ” 59But what they said did not agree.
60Then the high priest stood up in front of them. He asked Jesus, “Aren’t you going to answer? What are these charges these men are bringing against you?” 61But Jesus remained silent. He gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”
62“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One. You will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven.”
63The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64“You have heard him say a very evil thing against God. What do you think?”
They all found him guilty and said he must die. 65Then some began to spit at him. They blindfolded him. They hit him with their fists. They said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
Peter Says He Does Not Know Jesus
66Peter was below in the courtyard. One of the high priest’s female servants came by. 67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him.
“You also were with Jesus, that Nazarene,” she said.
68But Peter said he had not been with him. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said. He went out to the entrance to the courtyard.
69The servant saw him there. She said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70Again he said he was not.
After a little while, those standing nearby said to Peter, “You must be one of them. You are from Galilee.”
71Then Peter began to curse. He said to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”
72Right away the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had spoken to him. “The rooster will crow twice,” he had said. “Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter broke down and cried.
آخرين روزهای عيسی در اين دنيا
1دو روز به عيد پِسَح مانده بود. در ايام اين عيد، يهوديان فقط نان فطير میخوردند.
كاهنان اعظم و روحانیون ديگرِ يهود، هنوز در پی فرصت میگشتند تا عيسی را بیسر و صدا دستگير كنند و بكشند. 2ولی میگفتند: «در روزهای عيد نمیتوان اين كار را كرد مبادا مردم سر به شورش بگذارند.»
3در اين هنگام، عيسی در بيتعنيا در خانهٔ شمعون جذامی میهمان بود. وقت شام، زنی با يک شيشه عطر گرانبها از سُنبُل خالص وارد شد و شيشه را باز كرد و عطر را بر سر عيسی ريخت.
4-5بعضی از حضار از اين عمل ناراحت شده، به يكديگر گفتند: «افسوس! چرا عطر به اين خوبی را تلف كرد؟ میتوانستيم آن را به سيصد سكه نقره بفروشيم و پولش را به فقرا بدهيم.» به اين ترتيب، آن زن را سرزنش میكردند.
6ولی عيسی گفت: «كاری به كار او نداشته باشيد! چرا برای اين كار خوب او را سرزنش میكنيد؟ 7فقرا هميشه دور و بر شما هستند. هرگاه بخواهيد میتوانيد كمكشان كنيد. ولی من مدت زيادی با شما نخواهم بود. 8اين زن هر چه از دستش برمیآمد، انجام داد. در واقع بدن مرا برای كفن و دفن حاضر كرد. 9اين كه میگويم عين حقيقت است: از اين پس در هر جای دنيا كه پيغام انجيل موعظه شود، كار اين زن نيز ذكر خواهد شد و مورد تحسين قرار خواهد گرفت.»
خيانت يهودا به عيسی
10آنگاه يكی از شاگردان او به نام يهودا اسخريوطی، نزد كاهنان اعظم رفت تا استاد خود را به ايشان تسليم كند. 11وقتی كاهنان شنيدند برای چه آمده است، بسيار شاد شدند و قول دادند به او پاداشی بدهند. او نيز در پی فرصت میگشت تا عيسی را به ايشان تحويل دهد.
آخرين شام عيسی با شاگردان
12روز اول عيد كه در آن قربانی میكردند، شاگردان عيسی پرسيدند: «كجا میخواهيد برويم و شام عيد پِسَح را بخوريم؟» 13عيسی دو نفر از شاگردان را به اورشليم فرستاد تا شام را حاضر كنند و گفت: «در راه شخصی را خواهيد ديد كه به طرف شما میآيد. يک كوزه آب هم در دست دارد. به دنبال او برويد. 14به هر خانهای داخل شد، به صاحب آن خانه بگوييد: استادمان ما را فرستاده است تا اتاقی را كه برای ما حاضر كردهايد تا امشب شام پسح را بخوريم، ببينيم. 15او شما را به بالاخانه، به يک اتاق بزرگ و مفروش خواهد برد. شام را همانجا تدارک ببينيد.»
16پس آن دو شاگرد به شهر رفتند و همانطور واقع شد كه عيسی گفته بود. پس شام را حاضر كردند.
17هنگام شب، عيسی و بقيهٔ شاگردان رسيدند. 18وقتی دور سفره نشستند، عيسی گفت: «اين كه میگويم عين حقيقت است: يكی از شما به من خيانت میكند، بلی، يكی از خود شما كه اينجا با من شام میخوريد.»
19همه از اين سخن غمگين شدند و يک به يک از او پرسيدند: «منم؟»
20عيسی جواب داد: «يكی از شما دوازده نفر است كه حالا با من شام میخورد. 21من بايد بميرم، همانطور كه پيغمبران خدا از پيش خبر دادهاند. اما وای به حال آنكه مرا تسليم به مرگ میكند. كاش هرگز به دنيا نمیآمد.»
22وقتی شام میخوردند، عيسی نان را به دست گرفت، آن را بركت داده، پاره كرد و به ايشان داد و فرمود: «بگيريد، اين بدن من است.» 23سپس جام را به دست گرفت، از خدا تشكر كرد و به ايشان داد و همه از آن نوشيدند. 24آنگاه به ايشان فرمود: «اين خون من است كه در راه بسياری ريخته میشود، و مهر يک پيمان تازه است بين خدا و انسان. 25اين كه میگويم عين حقيقت است: ديگر از اين محصول انگور نخواهم نوشيد تا روزی كه تازهٔ آن را در ملكوت خدا بنوشم.»
26سپس سرودی خواندند و از خانه بيرون آمدند و به سوی كوه زيتون رفتند.
عيسی انکار پطرس را پيشگويی میکند
27در بين راه، عيسی به ايشان گفت: «امشب همهٔ شما مرا تنها گذارده، خواهيد رفت، چون در كتاب آسمانی نوشته شده كه خدا چوپان را میزند و گوسفندان پراكنده میشوند. 28ولی بعد از زنده شدنم، به جليل خواهم رفت و شما را در آنجا خواهم ديد.»
29پطرس گفت: «حتی اگر همه شما را ترک كنند، من اين كار را نخواهم كرد.»
30عيسی گفت: «پطرس، فردا صبح پيش از اينكه خروس دو بار بخواند، تو سه بار مرا انكار كرده، خواهی گفت كه مرا نمیشناسی.»
31ولی پطرس با تأكيد بيشتر گفت: «نه، من اگر لازم باشد بميرم، میميرم ولی هرگز شما را انكار نمیكنم.» ديگران نيز همين قسم را خوردند.
آخرين دعا در جتسيمانی
32سپس به يک باغ زيتون رسيدند، كه به باغ جتسيمانی معروف بود. عيسی به شاگردان خود گفت: «شما اينجا بنشينيد تا من بروم دعا كنم.» 33او پطرس، يعقوب و يوحنا را نيز با خود برد. ناگاه اضطراب و پريشانی عميقی بر او مستولی شد. 34به ايشان گفت: «از شدت حزن و غم، در شرف مرگ میباشم. شما همینجا بمانيد و با من بيدار باشيد.» 35سپس كمی دورتر رفت، بر زمين افتاد و دعا كرد تا شايد آن دقايق وحشتآور كه انتظارش را میكشيد، هرگز پيش نيايد. 36او دعا كرده، گفت: «ای پدر، هر كاری نزد تو امكانپذير است. پس اين جام رنج و عذاب را از مقابل من بردار. در عين حال، خواست تو را میخواهم نه ميل خود را.» 37سپس نزد آن سه شاگرد برگشت و ديد كه در خوابند. پس گفت: «شمعون! خوابی؟ نتوانستی حتی يک ساعت با من بيدار بمانی؟ 38با من بيدار بمانيد و دعا كنيد مبادا وسوسهكننده بر شما غالب آيد. چون روح مايل است اما جسم، ضعيف و ناتوان.»
39باز رفت و همان دعا را كرد. 40وقتی بازگشت، ديد كه هنوز در خوابند، چون نمیتوانستند پلكهايشان را باز نگاه دارند و نمیدانستند چه بگويند. 41وقتی برای بار سوم برگشت، گفت: «هنوز در خوابيد؟ بس است! ديگر وقت خواب نيست. نگاه كنيد، اكنون در چنگ اين اشخاص بدكار گرفتار خواهم شد. 42برخيزيد، بايد برويم! نگاه كنيد، اين هم شاگرد خائن من!…»
دستگيری عيسی
43سخن عيسی هنوز به پايان نرسيده بود كه يهودا، يكی از دوازده شاگرد عيسی، از راه رسيد؛ عدهای بسيار با شمشير و چوب و چماق او را همراهی میكردند. آنان از طرف كاهنان اعظم و سران قوم يهود آمده بودند. 44يهودا به ايشان گفته بود: «هر كه را بوسيدم، بدانيد كه او كسی است كه بايد بگيريد. پس با احتياط او را بگيريد و ببريد.»
45پس به محض اينكه يهودا رسيد، نزد عيسی رفت و گفت: «سلام استاد!» و دست در گردن او انداخت و صورت او را بوسيد. 46آنان نيز عيسی را گرفتند و محكم بستند تا ببرند. 47ولی يک نفر شمشير كشيد و با غلام كاهن اعظم درگير شد و گوش او را بريد.
48عيسی گفت: «مگر من دزد فراری هستم كه اينطور سر تا پا مسلح برای گرفتنم آمدهايد؟ 49چرا در خانهٔ خدا مرا نگرفتيد؟ من كه هر روز آنجا بودم و تعليم میدادم. ولی لازم است تمام اينها اتفاق بيفتد تا پيشگويی كلام خدا انجام شود.»
50در اين گيرودار، شاگردان او را تنها گذاشتند و فرار كردند. 51-52يک جوانی نيز از پشت سرشان میآمد كه فقط چادری بر خود انداخته بود. وقتی سعی كردند او را بگيرند، چادر را در دست آنها رها كرد و عريان پا به فرار گذاشت.
محاکمه عيسی در دادگاه شورای يهود
53پس عيسی را به خانهٔ كاهن اعظم بردند. بیدرنگ، تمام كاهنان اعظم و سران قوم يهود در آنجا جمع شدند. 54پطرس نيز از دور به دنبالشان میآمد تا به خانهٔ كاهن اعظم رسيد. سپس آهسته از لای در، داخل حياط خانه شد و ميان غلامان، كنار آتش نشست.
55در داخل خانه، كاهنان اعظم و اعضا شورای عالی يهود سعی میكردند عليه عيسی مدركی به دست آورند تا حكم اعدامش را صادر كنند، ولی نتوانستند.
56چند نفر نيز شهادت دروغ دادند ولی گفتههايشان با هم يكسان نبود. 57-58سرانجام، بعضی برخاسته، به دروغ گفتند: «ما شنيديم كه میگفت من اين خانهٔ خدا را كه با دست انسان ساخته شده است، خراب میكنم و بدون كمک دست انسان، در عرض سه روز، عبادتگاهی ديگر میسازم.» 59ولی اين تهمت نيز به جايی نرسيد.
60آنگاه كاهن اعظم در حضور شورای عالی برخاست و از عيسی پرسيد: «به اين اتهام جواب نمیدهی؟ چه داری در دفاع از خودت بگويی؟»
61عيسی هيچ جواب نداد. پس كاهن اعظم پرسيد: «آيا تو مسيح، فرزند خدای متبارک هستی؟»
62عيسی گفت: «هستم، و يک روز مرا خواهيد ديد كه در دست راست خدا نشستهام و در ابرهای آسمان به زمين باز میگردم.»
63-64كاهن اعظم لباس خود را پاره كرد و گفت: «ديگر چه میخواهيد؟ هنوز هم شاهد لازم داريد؟ خودتان شنيديد كه كفر گفت. چه رأی میدهيد؟» پس به اتفاق آراء او را به مرگ محكوم كردند.
65آنگاه به آزار و اذيت او پرداختند. بعضی بر صورتش آب دهان میانداختند. بعضی ديگر چشمانش را میبستند و به صورتش سيلی میزدند و با ريشخند میگفتند: «اگر پيغمبری، بگو چه كسی تو را زد؟» سربازان نيز او را میزدند.
پطرس عيسی را انکار میکند
66-67اما پطرس هنوز در حياط بود. در آن حال، يكی از كنيزان كاهن اعظم او را ديد كه كنار آتش خود را گرم میكند؛ پس به او خيره شد و گفت: «مثل اينكه تو هم با عيسای ناصری بودی!»
68پطرس انكار كرد و گفت: «از حرفهايت سر در نمیآورم!» و به گوشهٔ ديگر حياط رفت.
همان وقت خروس بانگ زد.
69آن كنيز دوباره پطرس را ديد و به ديگران گفت: «او را میبينيد؟ او هم يكی از شاگردان عيسی است!»
70باز پطرس انكار كرد.
كمی بعد، ديگران كه دور آتش بودند، به او گفتند: «تو بايد يكی از شاگردان عيسی باشی، چون لهجهات جليلی است!»
71پطرس لعنت كرد و قسم خورد كه من او را نمیشناسم.
72بار دوم خروس بانگ زد و پطرس گفتهٔ عيسی را به ياد آورد كه فرموده بود: «پيش از اينكه خروس دو بار بخواند، تو سه بار خواهی گفت كه مرا نمیشناسی.» پس به گريه افتاد.
