Towns Are Given to the Levites
1The leaders of the Levite family groups approached Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun. They also approached the leaders of the family groups of Israel’s other tribes. 2They went to all of them at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, “Give us towns to live in. Also give us grasslands for our livestock. That’s what the Lord commanded through Moses.”
3So the Israelites gave the Levites towns and grasslands out of their own shares of land. They did what the Lord had commanded. Here are the towns the Levites were given.
4The first lot drawn out was for the people of Kohath, according to their family groups. Some of the Levites came from the family line of Aaron the priest. They were given 13 towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
5The rest of Kohath’s family groups were given ten towns. Those towns were from the family groups of the tribes of Ephraim and Dan and half of the tribe of Manasseh.
6The family groups of Gershon were given 13 towns. Those towns were from the family groups of the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali and half of the tribe of Manasseh. That part of Manasseh was in the land of Bashan.
7The family groups of Merari received 12 towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun. Each family group received its share.
8So the Israelites gave those towns and their grasslands to the Levites. They did what the Lord had commanded through Moses.
9Some towns were given from the territories of the tribes of Judah and Simeon. 10The Israelites gave them to the members of the family line of Aaron. The towns were given to the family groups of Kohath. They were Levites. The first lot drawn out was for them. Here are the towns the family groups of Kohath were given.
11The Israelites gave them Kiriath Arba and the grasslands around it. Kiriath Arba is also called Hebron. It’s in the hill country of Judah. Anak came from the family line of Arba. 12But Israel had already given away the fields and villages around the city. They had given them to Caleb as his share. Caleb was the son of Jephunneh. 13So they gave Hebron to the members of the family line of Aaron the priest. Hebron was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also gave them Libnah, 14Jattir, Eshtemoa, 15Holon, Debir, 16Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh. They gave those towns and their grasslands to the family groups of Kohath. The total number of towns from the tribes of Judah and Simeon came to nine.
17The Israelites gave some towns from the tribe of Benjamin to the family groups of Kohath.
The towns were Gibeon, Geba, 18Anathoth and Almon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
19So the total number of towns and their grasslands given to the priests in Aaron’s family line came to 13.
20There were other family groups of Kohath among the Levites. They were given towns from the tribe of Ephraim. Here are the towns those other family groups of Kohath were given.
21In the hill country of Ephraim they were given
Shechem. It was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They were also given Gezer, 22Kibzaim and Beth Horon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
23From the tribe of Dan they received
Eltekeh, Gibbethon, 24Aijalon and Gath Rimmon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
25From half of the tribe of Manasseh they received
Taanach and Gath Rimmon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to two.
26So all these ten towns and their grasslands were given to the other family groups of Kohath.
27Here are the towns given to the family groups of Gershon among the Levites.
From half of the tribe of Manasseh they received
Golan in the land of Bashan. Golan was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Be Eshterah. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to two.
28From the tribe of Issachar they received
Kishion, Daberath, 29Jarmuth and En Gannim. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
30From the tribe of Asher they received
Mishal, Abdon, 31Helkath and Rehob. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
32From the tribe of Naphtali they received
Kedesh in Galilee. Kedesh was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Hammoth Dor and Kartan. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to three.
33So the total number of towns and their grasslands given to the family groups of Gershon came to 13.
34The rest of the Levites were from the family groups of Merari. Here are the towns they were given.
From the tribe of Zebulun they received
Jokneam, Kartah, 35Dimnah and Nahalal. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
36From the tribe of Reuben they received
Bezer, Jahaz, 37Kedemoth and Mephaath. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
38From the tribe of Gad they received
Ramoth in Gilead. Ramoth was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Mahanaim, 39Heshbon and Jazer. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four.
40So the total number of towns given to the family groups of Merari came to 12. That concludes the list of towns the rest of the Levites received.
41The total number of Levite towns and their grasslands in the territory given to Israel came to 48. 42Each of those towns had grasslands around it. That was true of all of them.
43So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had promised to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And Israel took it over. Then they made their homes there. 44The Lord gave them peace and rest on every side. He had promised their people of long ago that he would do that. Not one of Israel’s enemies was able to fight against them and win. The Lord handed all their enemies over to them. 45The Lord kept all the good promises he had made to the Israelites. Every one of them came true.
Desemnarea cetăților levitice
(1 Cron. 6:54-80)
1Căpeteniile de familie ale leviților s‑au apropiat de preotul Elazar, de Iosua, fiul lui Nun, și de căpeteniile de familie ale semințiilor fiilor lui Israel, 2la Șilo, în țara Canaan, și le‑au vorbit, zicând: „Domnul a poruncit prin Moise să ni se dea cetăți de locuit și pășuni pentru animalele noastre.“
3Atunci fiii lui Israel le‑au dat leviților, pe teritoriul moștenirii lor, următoarele cetăți cu pășunile din jur, așa cum poruncise Domnul.
4O parte a ieșit la sorți pentru clanurile chehatiților. Acestor leviți, urmași ai preotului Aaron, li s‑au dat prin sorți treisprezece cetăți din seminția lui Iuda, din seminția lui Simeon și din seminția lui Beniamin. 5Urmașilor lui Chehat care au mai rămas, li s‑au dat prin sorți zece cetăți ale clanurilor din seminția lui Efraim, din seminția lui Dan și din jumătatea seminției lui Manase.
6Fiilor lui Gherșon li s‑au dat prin sorți treisprezece cetăți ale clanurilor din seminția lui Isahar, din seminția lui Așer, din seminția lui Neftali și din jumătatea seminției lui Manase, care ocupa Bașanul.
7Fiilor lui Merari, potrivit clanurilor lor, li s‑au dat douăsprezece cetăți din seminția lui Ruben, din seminția lui Gad și din seminția lui Zabulon.
8Astfel, fiii lui Israel le‑au dat leviților prin sorți cetățile acestea cu pășunile din jur, așa cum poruncise Domnul prin Moise.
9Din seminția fiilor lui Iuda și din seminția fiilor lui Simeon au dat următoarele cetăți menționate pe nume, 10cetăți care au revenit urmașilor lui Aaron din clanurile chehatiților (urmașii lui Levi), căci ei au ieșit primii la sorți:
11le‑au dat Chiriat-Arba (Hebron) – Arba fusese tatăl lui Anac – cu pășunile din jur, pe muntele lui Iuda; 12însă câmpia cetății și satele dimprejurul ei i‑au fost date ca moștenire, lui Caleb, fiul lui Iefune.
13Au dat deci urmașilor preotului Aaron cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, Hebronul, cu pășunile din jur, precum și Libna cu pășunile din jur, 14Iatir cu pășunile din jur, Eștemoa cu pășunile din jur, 15Holon cu pășunile din jur, Debir cu pășunile din jur, 16Ayin cu pășunile din jur, Iuta cu pășunile din jur și Bet‑Șemeș cu pășunile din jur – nouă cetăți pe teritoriul acestor două seminții;
17din seminția lui Beniamin le‑au dat: Ghivon cu pășunile din jur, Gheva cu pășunile din jur, 18Anatot cu pășunile din jur și Almon cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți.
19Toate cetățile preoților, urmașii lui Aaron, cu pășunile din jurul lor erau în număr de treisprezece.
20Celorlalți leviți care au mai rămas din clanurile urmașilor lui Chehat, li s‑au dat prin sorți cetăți din seminția lui Efraim:
21Le‑au dat Șechem, cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, cu pășunile din jur, în muntele lui Efraim, Ghezer cu pășunile din jur, 22Chibțayim cu pășunile din jur și Bet‑Horon cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
23Din seminția lui Dan le‑au dat: Elteke cu pășunile din jur, Ghibeton cu pășunile din jur, 24Aialon cu pășunile din jur și Gat‑Rimon cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
25Din jumătatea seminției lui Manase le‑au dat: Taanah cu pășunile din jur și Ibleam cu pășunile din jur – două cetăți.
26Toate cetățile date clanurilor care au rămas din urmașii lui Chehat, cu pășunile din jur, erau în număr de zece.
27Fiilor lui Gherșon, unul din clanurile leviților, le‑au fost date, din jumătatea seminției lui Manase, următoarele:
Golan, cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, care era în Bașan, cu pășunile din jur
și Aștarot27 Siriacă și 1 Cron. 6:56; TM: Be‑Eștera, cu pășunile din jur – două cetăți;
28din seminția lui Isahar le‑au dat:
Kișion cu pășunile din jur,
Dabrat cu pășunile din jur,
29Iarmut cu pășunile din jur
și En‑Ganim cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
30din seminția lui Așer le‑au dat:
Mișal cu pășunile din jur,
Abdon cu pășunile din jur,
31Helkat cu pășunile din jur
și Rehob cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
32din seminția lui Neftali le‑au dat:
Kedeș, cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, care era în Galileea, cu pășunile din jur,
Hamot‑Dor32 Sau: Hamat (cf. 19:35); ori: Hamon (cf. 1 Cron. 6:61). cu pășunile din jur
și Kartan32 Sau: Rakat (cf. 19:35); ori: Chiriatayim (cf. 1 Cron. 6:61). cu pășunile din jur – trei cetăți.
33Toate cetățile clanurilor gherșoniților erau în număr de treisprezece, fiecare cetate cu pășunile din jur.
34Celorlalți leviți care au mai rămas din clanurile urmașilor lui Merari, le‑au fost date următoarele: pe teritoriul seminției lui Zabulon le‑au dat:
Iokneam cu pășunile din jur,
Karta cu pășunile din jur,
35Dimna cu pășunile din jur
și Nahalal cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
36din seminția lui Ruben le‑au dat:
Bețer cu pășunile din jur,
Iahaț cu pășunile din jur,
37Chedemot cu pășunile din jur
și Mefaat cu pășunile din jur – patru cetăți;
38din seminția lui Gad le‑au dat:
Ramot, cetatea de refugiu pentru ucigași, care era în Ghilad, cu pășunile din jur,
Mahanayim cu pășunile din jur,
39Heșbon cu pășunile din jur
și Iazer cu pășunile din jur – în total patru cetăți.
40Toate cetățile date clanurilor urmașilor lui Merari, adică clanurilor leviților care mai rămăseseră, erau în număr de douăsprezece.
41Toate cetățile leviților care erau pe teritoriul fiilor lui Israel, împreună cu pășunile din jur, erau în număr de patruzeci și opt. 42Fiecare din aceste cetăți își avea pășunile ei de jur împrejur; așa era fiecare dintre aceste cetăți.
Împlinirea promisiunilor
43Domnul a dat astfel lui Israel toată țara pe care a jurat părinților lor că le‑o va da, iar ei au luat‑o în stăpânire și au locuit în ea. 44Domnul le‑a dat odihnă din toate părțile, așa cum jurase părinților lor. Nimeni nu le‑a putut sta împotrivă. Domnul i‑a dat pe toți dușmanii în mâna lor. 45Nu a rămas neîmplinit niciunul din lucrurile bune pe care Domnul le‑a promis Casei lui Israel. Toate s‑au împlinit.
