The Place Where Wisdom Is Found Is Explained
1There are mines where silver is found.
There are places where gold is purified.
2Iron is taken out of the earth.
Copper is melted down from ore.
3Human beings light up the darkness.
They search for ore in the deepest pits.
They look for it in the blackest darkness.
4Far from where people live they cut a tunnel.
They do it in places where other people don’t go.
Far away from people they swing back and forth on ropes.
5Food grows on the surface of the earth.
But far below, the earth is changed as if by fire.
6Lapis lazuli is taken from the rocky earth.
Its dust contains nuggets of gold.
7No bird knows that hidden path.
No falcon’s eye has seen it.
8Proud animals don’t walk on it.
Lions don’t prowl there.
9Human hands attack the hardest rock.
Their strong hands uncover the base of the mountains.
10They tunnel through the rock.
Their eyes see all its treasures.
11They search the places where the rivers begin.
They bring hidden things out into the light.
12But where can wisdom be found?
Where does understanding live?
13No human being understands how much it’s worth.
It can’t be found anywhere in the world.
14The ocean says, “It’s not in me.”
The sea says, “It’s not here either.”
15It can’t be bought with the finest gold.
Its price can’t be weighed out in silver.
16It can’t be bought with gold from Ophir.
It can’t be bought with priceless onyx or lapis lazuli.
17Gold or crystal can’t compare with it.
It can’t be bought with jewels made of gold.
18Don’t bother to talk about coral and jasper.
Wisdom is worth far more than rubies.
19A topaz from Cush can’t compare with it.
It can’t be bought with the purest gold.
20So where does wisdom come from?
Where does understanding live?
21It’s hidden from the eyes of every living thing.
Even the birds in the sky can’t find it.
22Death and the Grave say,
“Only reports about it have reached our ears.”
23But God understands the way to it.
He is the only one who knows where it lives.
24He sees from one end of the earth to the other.
He views everything in the world.
25He made the mighty wind.
He measured out the waters.
26He gave orders for the rain to fall.
He made paths for the thunderstorms.
27Then he looked at wisdom and set its price.
He established it and tested it.
28He said to human beings,
“Have respect for the Lord. That will prove you are wise.
Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding.”

1Nítòótọ́, koto fàdákà ń bẹ,
àti ibi tí wọ́n ti máa ń da wúrà.
2Nínú ilẹ̀ ni à ń gbé ń wa irin,
bàbà ni a sì ń dà láti inú òkúta wá.
3Ènìyàn ni ó fi òpin si òkùnkùn,
ó sì ṣe àwárí ìṣúra
láti inú òjìji ikú sí ìhà gbogbo.
4Wọ́n wa ihò ilẹ̀ tí ó jì sí àwọn tí ń gbé òkè,
àwọn tí ẹsẹ̀ ènìyàn gbàgbé wọ́n rọ́ sí ìsàlẹ̀,
wọ́n rọ́ sí ìsàlẹ̀ jìnnà sí àwọn ènìyàn.
5Bí ó ṣe ti ilẹ̀ ni, nínú rẹ̀ ni oúnjẹ ti ń jáde wá,
àti ohun tí ó wà ní ìsàlẹ̀ ni ó yí padà bi iná
6Òkúta ibẹ̀ ni ibi òkúta Safire,
o sì ní erùpẹ̀ wúrà.
7Ipa ọ̀nà náà ni ẹyẹ kò mọ̀,
àti ojú gúnnugún kò rí i rí;
8Àwọn ẹranko agbéraga kò rìn ibẹ̀ rí,
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kìnnìún tí ń ké ramúramù kò kọjá níbẹ̀ rí.
9Ó fi ọwọ́ rẹ̀ lé akọ òkúta,
ó yí òkè ńlá po láti ìdí rẹ̀ wá.
10Ó sì la ipa odò ṣíṣàn nínú àpáta,
ojú inú rẹ̀ sì rí ohun iyebíye gbogbo.
11Ó sì ṣe ìṣàn odò kí ó má ṣe kún àkúnya,
ó sì mú ohun tí ó pamọ́ hàn jáde wá sí ìmọ́lẹ̀.
12Ṣùgbọ́n níbo ni á ó gbé wá ọgbọ́n rí,
níbo sì ni òye ń gbe?
13Ènìyàn kò mọ iye rẹ̀,
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kò le è rí i ní ilẹ̀ àwọn alààyè.
14Ọ̀gbun wí pé, “Kò sí nínú mi”;
omi Òkun sì wí pé, “Kò si nínú mi.”
15A kò le è fi wúrà rà á,
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kò le è fi òṣùwọ̀n wọn fàdákà ní iye rẹ̀.
16A kò le è fi wúrà ofiri,
tàbí òkúta óníkìsì iyebíye, tàbí òkúta Safire díye lé e.
17Wúrà àti òkúta kristali kò tó ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀;
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kò le è fi ohun èlò wúrà ṣe pàṣípàrọ̀ rẹ̀.
18A kò lè dárúkọ iyùn tàbí òkúta jasperi;
iye ọgbọ́n sì ju iyùn lọ.
19Òkúta topasi ti Kuṣi kò tó ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀;
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni a kò le fi wúrà dáradára díwọ̀n iye rẹ̀.
20Níbo ha ni ọgbọ́n ti jáde wá?
Tàbí níbo ni òye ń gbé?
21A rí i pé, ó fi ara sinko kúrò ní ojú àwọn alààyè gbogbo,
ó sì fi ara sin fún ẹyẹ ojú ọ̀run.
22Ibi ìparun àti ikú wí pé,
àwa ti fi etí wa gbúròó rẹ̀.
23Ọlọ́run ni ó mọ òye ipa ọ̀nà rẹ̀,
òun ni ó sì mọ ibi tí ó ń gbé.
24Nítorí pé ó wòye dé òpin ayé,
ó sì rí gbogbo ìsàlẹ̀ ọ̀run,
25Láti dà òṣùwọ̀n fún afẹ́fẹ́,
ó sì fi òṣùwọ̀n wọ́n omi.
26Nígbà tí ó pàṣẹ fún òjò,
tí ó sì la ọ̀nà fún mọ̀nàmọ́ná àrá,
27Nígbà náà ni ó rí i, ó sì sọ ọ́ jáde;
ó pèsè rẹ̀ sílẹ̀, ó sì ṣe ìwádìí rẹ̀ rí.
28Àti fún ènìyàn ni ó wí pé,
“Kíyèsi i, ẹ̀rù Olúwa èyí ni ọgbọ́n,
àti láti jáde kúrò nínú ìwà búburú èyí ni òye.”
