The New Temple Area
1It was the 14th year after Jerusalem had been captured. We had been brought to Babylon as prisoners. It was the tenth day of a month near the beginning of the 25th year after that. On that day the power of the Lord came on me. He took me back to my land. 2In visions God gave me, he brought me to the land of Israel. He set me on a very high mountain. Some buildings were on the south side of it. They looked like a city. 3He took me there. I saw a man who appeared to be made out of bronze. He was standing at the gate of the outer courtyard. He was holding a linen measuring tape and a measuring rod. 4The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely. Pay attention to everything I show you. That is why the Lord brought you here. Tell the people of Israel everything you see.”
The East Gate to the Outer Courtyard
5I saw a wall that completely surrounded the temple area. The measuring rod in the man’s hand was 11 feet long. He measured the wall with it. The wall was as thick and as high as one measuring rod.
6Then the man went to the east gate. He climbed its steps. He measured the gateway. It was one rod wide. 7The rooms where the guards stood were one rod long and one rod wide. The walls between the rooms were almost nine feet thick. The gateway next to the porch was one rod wide. The porch faced the front of the temple.
8Then the man measured the porch of the gateway. 9It was 14 feet wide. Each of its doorposts was three and a half feet thick. The porch of the gateway faced the front of the temple.
10Inside the east gate were three rooms on each side. All the rooms were the same size. The walls on each side of the rooms had the same thickness. 11Then the man measured the entrance of the gateway. It was 18 feet wide and 23 feet long. 12In front of each room was a wall. It was 21 inches high. The rooms measured 11 feet on each side. 13Then he measured the gateway from the back wall of one room to the back wall of the room across from it. It was 44 feet from the top of one wall to the top of the other. 14He measured along the front of the side walls all around the inside of the gateway. The total was 105 feet. That didn’t include the porch that faced the courtyard. 15It was 88 feet from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its porch. 16The rooms and their side walls inside the gateway had narrow openings on top of them. So did the porch. All the openings faced the inside. The front of each side wall was decorated with a palm tree.
The Outer Courtyard
17Then the man brought me into the outer courtyard. There I saw some rooms and a sidewalk. They had been built all around the courtyard. Along the sidewalk were 30 rooms. 18The sidewalk went all the way up to the sides of the gateways. It was as wide as they were long. This was the lower sidewalk. 19Then he measured from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner courtyard. The east side measured 175 feet. So did the north side.
The North Gate
20Then the man measured the north gate. He wanted to show me how long and wide it was. The gate led into the outer courtyard. 21It had three rooms on each side. Their side walls and porch measured the same as the ones at the first gateway. They measured 88 feet long and 44 feet wide. 22Its openings, porch and palm tree decorations measured the same as the ones at the east gate. Seven steps led up to the north gate. Its porch was across from them. 23The inner courtyard had a gate. It faced the gate on the north. It was just like the east gate. He measured from one gate to the one across from it. The total was 175 feet.
The South Gate
24Then the man led me to the south side of the courtyard. There I saw the south gate. He measured its doorposts and porch. They measured the same as the others. 25The gateway and its porch had narrow openings all around. The openings were the same as the others had. The side walls and porch measured 88 feet long and 44 feet wide. 26Seven steps led up to it. Its porch was across from them. The front of each side wall was decorated with a palm tree. 27The inner courtyard also had a gate that faced south. The man measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side. The total was 175 feet.
The Gates to the Inner Courtyard
28Then the man brought me into the inner courtyard. We went through the south gate. He measured it. It was the same size as the others. 29Its rooms, side walls and porch measured the same as the ones at the other gateways. The gateway and its porch had openings all around. The side walls and porch measured 88 feet long and 44 feet wide. 30The porches of the gateways around the inner courtyard were 44 feet wide and nine feet long. 31Its porch faced the outer courtyard. Palm trees decorated its doorposts. Eight steps led up to it.
32Then the man brought me to the east side of the inner courtyard. There he measured the gateway. It was the same size as the others. 33Its rooms, side walls and porch measured the same as the ones at the other gateways. The gateway and its porch had openings all around. The side walls and porch measured 88 feet long and 44 feet wide. 34Its porch faced the outer courtyard. Each doorpost was decorated with a palm tree. Eight steps led up to the porch.
35Then the man brought me to the north gate. He measured it. It was the same size as the others. 36Its rooms, side walls and porch measured the same as the ones at the other gateways. It had openings all around. The side walls and the porch measured 88 feet long and 44 feet wide. 37The porch faced the outer courtyard. Each doorpost was decorated with a palm tree. Eight steps led up to the porch.
The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices
38A room with a doorway was by the porch of each inner gateway. The burnt offerings were washed there. 39On each side of the porch of the gateway were two tables. The burnt offerings were killed on them. So were the sin offerings and guilt offerings. 40Two more tables were by the outer wall of the gateway porch. They were near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway. Two more tables were on the other side of the steps. 41So there were four tables on each side of the gateway. The total number of tables was eight. Animals for sacrifice were killed on all of them. 42There were also four other tables for the burnt offerings. They were made out of blocks of stone. Each table was two and a half feet long and two and a half feet wide. And each was almost two feet high. The tools for killing the burnt offerings and other sacrifices were placed on them. 43Large hooks hung on the walls all around. Each was three inches long. The meat of the offerings was placed on the tables.
The Rooms for the Priests
44Near the inner gates were two rooms. They were in the inner courtyard. One room was next to the north gate. It faced south. The other one was next to the south gate. It faced north. 45The man said to me, “The room that faces south is for the priests who guard the temple. 46The one that faces north is for the priests who guard the altar. All these priests are the sons of Zadok. They are the only Levites who can approach the Lord to serve him.”
47Then the man measured the courtyard. It was square. It measured 175 feet long and 175 feet wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.
The New Temple
48The man brought me to the porch of the temple. He measured the doorposts of the porch. Each of them was almost nine feet wide. The entrance was 24 and a half feet wide. Each of the side walls was a little over five feet wide. 49The porch was 35 feet wide. It was 21 feet from front to back. It was reached by some stairs. Pillars were on each side of the doorposts.
Visión del Templo futuro

Anda luego y comunícale al pueblo de Israel todo lo que veas».
La puerta oriental
5Entonces vi un muro que rodeaba el Templo por fuera. Para medir, el hombre tenía en la mano una vara de seis codos largos40:5 Es decir, aprox. 3.15 m. Esta medida se conocía como codo largo, que consistía de 45 cm más 7.5 cm de un palmo menor. En el resto de este capítulo, así como en los capítulos del 40 al 48, esa será la medida de longitud usada. y midió el muro, el cual tenía una vara de ancho por una de alto.
6Luego se dirigió a la puerta que mira hacia el oriente. Subió sus gradas y midió el umbral de la puerta, el cual medía una vara de ancho.40:6 ancho (LXX); ancho, y un umbral, una vara de ancho (TM). 7Cada cámara lateral medía una vara de largo y de ancho. Entre las cámaras había un espacio de cinco codos. El umbral junto al vestíbulo de la puerta que daba al Templo medía una vara.
8Luego midió el vestíbulo de la puerta 9y40:8,9 De acuerdo con varios manuscritos hebreos, LXX, Vulgata y la versión Siríaca. La mayoría de los manuscritos hebreos incluyen: hacia el interior, y medía una vara. 9 Midió también el vestíbulo de la puerta que da hacia el Templo, y. medía ocho codos; sus pilares eran de dos codos de ancho.
10A cada lado de la puerta que daba al oriente había tres cámaras del mismo tamaño. A su vez, los pilares que estaban a los lados tenían la misma medida. 11Aquel hombre midió también la entrada de la puerta y tenía diez codos de ancho por trece de largo. 12Delante de cada cámara había un pequeño muro que medía un codo de alto. Cada cámara medía seis codos de ancho por seis codos de largo. 13Luego midió la puerta desde el techo de una cámara hasta el techo de la cámara de enfrente, y entre una y otra abertura había una distancia de veinticinco codos. 14Luego midió el vestíbulo, que era de sesenta codos. El vestíbulo daba al atrio, que lo rodeaba por completo. 15Desde el frente de la puerta de entrada hasta la parte interior del vestíbulo, el corredor tenía una extensión de cincuenta codos. 16En torno de las celdas y de los pilares había ventanas con celosías que daban al interior. También en torno al vestíbulo había ventanas que daban a su interior. Sobre los pilares había grabados de palmeras.
El atrio exterior
17Luego el hombre me llevó al atrio exterior. Allí vi unas habitaciones y un enlosado construido alrededor del atrio; las habitaciones que daban al enlosado eran treinta. 18Este enlosado, que estaba en el piso inferior, bordeaba las puertas y era equivalente a estas en longitud. 19Luego midió la distancia desde el frente de la puerta de abajo hasta el frente del atrio interior, y al este y al norte la distancia era de cien codos.
La puerta norte
20El hombre midió el largo y el ancho de la puerta que daba hacia el norte, es decir, hacia el atrio exterior. 21Sus salas, que también eran tres de cada lado, más sus pilares y su vestíbulo, tenían las mismas medidas que la primera puerta: cincuenta codos de largo por veinticinco codos de ancho. 22Sus ventanas, su vestíbulo y sus palmeras tenían las mismas medidas que las de la puerta oriental. A esta puerta se subía por medio de siete gradas y su vestíbulo estaba frente a ellas. 23En el atrio interior había una puerta que daba a la puerta del norte, igual que en la puerta del este. El hombre midió la distancia entre las dos puertas y era de cien codos.
La puerta sur
24Luego me condujo hacia el sur y allí había una puerta que daba al sur. Midió las celdas, los pilares y el vestíbulo, y todos estos tenían las mismas medidas que los anteriores. 25La puerta y el vestíbulo también tenían ventanas a su alrededor, al igual que los otros, y medían cincuenta codos de largo por veinticinco codos de ancho. 26También se subía a la puerta por medio de siete gradas; frente a ella estaba su vestíbulo. Los pilares a ambos lados tenían grabados de palmeras. 27El atrio interior tenía una puerta que daba al sur. El hombre midió la distancia entre una puerta y otra en dirección sur y era de cien codos.
Las puertas del atrio interior: la puerta sur
28Luego me llevó por la puerta del sur hacia el atrio interior. Midió la puerta del sur, la cual tenía las mismas medidas que las anteriores. 29Sus salas, sus pilares y su vestíbulo también tenían las mismas medidas que los anteriores. La puerta y el vestíbulo tenían ventanas a su alrededor; ambos medían cincuenta codos de largo por veinticinco codos de ancho. 30En su derredor había unos vestíbulos de veinticinco codos de largo por cinco codos de ancho. 31Su vestíbulo daba hacia el atrio exterior; sus pilares también tenían grabados de palmeras. A esta puerta se llegaba subiendo ocho gradas.
El atrio interior: la puerta oriental
32También me llevó al atrio interior que daba al oriente y midió la entrada, la cual tenía igual medida que las anteriores. 33Sus salas, sus pilares y su vestíbulo también tenían las mismas medidas que los anteriores. La puerta y el vestíbulo tenían ventanas a su alrededor; ambos medían cincuenta codos de largo por veinticinco codos de ancho. 34Su vestíbulo miraba hacia el atrio exterior. Los pilares tenían grabados de palmeras a cada lado. A esta puerta se llegaba subiendo ocho gradas.
El atrio interior: la puerta norte
35Luego el hombre me llevó a la puerta del norte y la midió: esta tenía las mismas medidas que las otras. 36También tenía celdas, pilares, vestíbulo y ventanas a su alrededor, y medían cincuenta codos de largo por veinticinco codos de ancho. 37Su vestíbulo miraba hacia el atrio exterior. Los pilares tenían grabados de palmeras a cada lado. A esta puerta se llegaba subiendo ocho gradas.
Los anexos de las puertas
38Había una sala que se comunicaba con el vestíbulo de cada puerta. Allí se lavaba el holocausto. 39En el vestíbulo de la puerta había cuatro mesas, dos de cada lado, donde se mataba a los animales para el holocausto, para la ofrenda por el pecado y para la ofrenda por la culpa. 40Fuera del vestíbulo, por donde se subía hacia la entrada de la puerta norte, había otras dos mesas; y al otro lado del vestíbulo de la puerta había dos mesas más. 41De manera que había cuatro mesas de un lado de la puerta y cuatro del otro, es decir, ocho mesas en total, donde se mataba a los animales. 42Para el holocausto había cuatro mesas labradas en piedra, que medían un codo y medio de largo por un codo y medio de ancho, y un codo de alto. Sobre ellas se colocaban los instrumentos con que se mataba a los animales para el holocausto y otros sacrificios. 43Colocados en el interior, sobre las paredes en derredor, estaban los ganchos dobles, que medían un palmo40:43 Es decir, el palmo menor, aprox. 7.5 cm. de largo. Sobre las mesas se ponía la carne de las ofrendas.
Las habitaciones para los sacerdotes
44En el atrio interior, fuera de las puertas interiores, había dos salas para cantores.40:44 dos salas para cantores (TM); salas (LXX). Una de ellas estaba junto a la puerta del norte que daba al sur y la otra, junto a la puerta del sur40:44 sur (LXX); este (TM). que daba al norte. 45Aquel hombre me dijo: «La sala que da al sur es para los sacerdotes encargados del Templo, 46mientras que la sala que da al norte es para los sacerdotes encargados del altar. Estos son los hijos de Sadoc y son los únicos levitas que pueden acercarse al Señor para ministrar delante de él».
El atrio interior y el Templo
47Luego midió el atrio, que era un cuadrado de cien codos de largo por cien codos de ancho. El altar estaba frente al Templo.
El nuevo Templo
48Entonces me llevó al vestíbulo del Templo y midió sus pilares; cada uno medía cinco codos de grueso. El ancho de la puerta era de catorce codos, mientras que las paredes laterales de la puerta medían tres codos de ancho. 49El vestíbulo medía veinte codos de ancho por doce40:49 Según la LXX; en hebreo, once. codos de largo y se llegaba a él por un tramo de escalera.40:49 un tramo de escalera (TM); diez gradas (LXX).
