1次に挙げるのは、マサの人（アラビヤ半島の中央部以東に住む、イシュマエルの子孫）でヤケの子アグルが、イティエルとウカルに教えたことです。
2私は疲れ果て、今にも死にそうです。
そのうえ、人間の資格さえないような愚か者です。
3神はもとより、
人間というものがわかりません。
それがわかるのは神だけです。
4神のほかにだれが、
天と地の間を上り下りしたでしょう。
だれが風や海を思いのまま造り、治めているでしょう。
神のほかにだれが、世界を造ったというのでしょう。
いるとしたら、どこのだれで、
子どもは何という名前ですか。
5神のことばはすべて真実で、
神は頼ってくる者をみな守ってくださいます。
6だから、神の言うことに何かを付け加えて、
うそをついたと言われないようにしなさい。
7ああ、神よ。最後の二つの願いを聞いてください。
8私が決してうそをつきませんように。
それから、私を特に貧乏にも金持ちにもせず、
ただ生きるのにどうしても必要なものだけを
与えてください。
9ぜいたくに慣れすぎて主を忘れたり、
貧しさのあまり盗みを働いて
神の名を汚したりしたくないのです。
10主人にしもべの悪口を言ってはいけません。
そんなことをすれば恨まれるだけです。
11-12親をのろい、悪いことばかりしているくせに、
自分は少しも欠点がないとすましている者がいます。
13-14彼らは自分のことを鼻にかけ、
人を人とも思いません。
貧しい人を陥れようと、
いつも歯を研ぎすましているのです。
15-16蛭のようにしつこく、
いつまでも満足しないものが二つ、三つ、
いいえ四つあります。
地獄、不妊の胎、乾ききった荒野、それに火です。
17父親をあざけり、母親を軽蔑するような者は、
からすに目をほじくられ、はげたかの餌になるのです。
18-19どんなに考えてもわからないことが三つ、
いいえ四つあります。
どのようにしてわしは大空を飛び、
どのようにして蛇は岩の上をはい、
どのようにして船は海を横切る道を見つけ、
どのようにして若い二人の間に
愛情が芽生えるのでしょう。
20わからないことがもう一つあります。
どうして悪い女は、悪いことをしながら厚かましく、
「いったい、どこがいけないの」と言えるのでしょう。
21-23地も震えるほどいやなことが三つ、
いいえ四つあります。
奴隷が王になり、反逆者が成功し、
きらわれた女が結婚し、
女中が女主人に取って代わることです。
24-28体は小さくても、
頭の良さでは何にも負けないものが四つあります。
力はなくても、冬の食糧を集める蟻、
弱くても、岩の間に住んで身を守る岩だぬき、
指導者がなくても、いっしょに行動するいなご、
簡単に捕まるけれど、王宮にでも住みつくやもりです。
29-31地上に堂々としたものが三つ、いいえ四つあります。
怖いもののない百獣の王ライオン、
くじゃく、雄やぎ、軍隊を指揮する王です。
32得意になって悪いことをするのは愚か者です。
少しは恥ずかしいと思うべきです。
33クリームをかきまぜるとバターができ、
鼻をなぐられると血が出るように、
人を怒らせると争いが起きます。
