men en uppstudsig son lyssnar inte på tillrättavisning.
2Människans tal kan ge god näring,
men de svekfulla hungrar efter våld.
3Den som tänker på vad han säger bevarar sitt liv,
men pratmakaren hamnar i fördärvet.
4Den late har begär men får inget,
medan den flitiges önskan blir uppfylld.
5Den rättfärdige avskyr lögn,
den onde handlar skamligt och fräckt.
6Rättfärdighet bevarar den ärlige,
men ondskan blir den gudlöses fall.
7Den ene låtsas vara rik men har ingenting,
en annan låtsas fattig, men äger mycket.
8Den rike får betala en lösensumma för sitt liv.
Den fattige hör inga hot.
9De rättfärdigas ljus lyser klart,
men de ondas lampa slocknar.
10Högfärd leder till gräl,
men den som lyssnar till råd är vis.
11Lättvindigt vunnen rikedom försvinner lätt,
men det som samlas efterhand växer.
12Utdragen väntan gör hjärtat sjukt,
men uppfylld önskan är ett livets träd.
13Den som föraktar vägledning får betala för det,
men den som respekterar lag och bud blir belönad.
14Den vises undervisning är en källa till liv,
som hjälper människan att undgå dödens snaror.
15Gott omdöme möter uppskattning,
men de trolösas väg leder till elände.
16Den kloke handlar utifrån sin kunskap och insikt,
men dåren visar upp sin dumhet.
17En ond budbärare störtas i olycka,
ett pålitligt sändebud för med sig läkedom.
18Fattigdom och vanära kommer över den som föraktar vägledning,
men den som låter sig tillrättavisas blir ärad.
19Uppfylld önskan är ljuvlig för själen,
men dåren avskyr att överge sin ondska.
20Den som umgås med visa människor blir vis,
men för den som slår följe med dårar går det illa.
21Syndare förföljs av olycka,
men de rättfärdiga belönas med det goda.
22Den gode lämnar ett arv till sina barnbarn,
men en syndares egendom sparas till de rättfärdiga.
23På de fattigas åkrar kan det växa rikligt med föda,
men den kan sopas bort av orättvisan.
24Den som spar på riset hatar sin son,
men den som älskar honom fostrar honom i tid.
25De rättfärdiga äter sig mätta,
men de gudlösa får gå omkring hungriga.
