2God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.1.2 God…: or, The LORD is a jealous God, and a revenger, etc1.2 is furious: Heb. that hath fury 3The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. 4He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. 5The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 6Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.1.6 abide: Heb. stand up 7The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.1.7 strong hold: or, strength 8But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

1O rostire despre Ninive. Cartea viziunii lui Naum, elkoșitul:
Mânia Domnului împotriva cetății Ninive
2Domnul este un Dumnezeu gelos și răzbunător!
Domnul Se răzbună și este plin de mânie;
Domnul Se răzbună pe vrăjmașii Săi
și este mânios pe dușmanii Săi.
3Domnul este încet la mânie și mare în putere.
Domnul nu va lăsa nepedepsit pe cel rău.
Își are calea în vijelie și în furtună,
iar norii sunt pulberea de sub picioarele Sale.
4El mustră marea și o usucă
și seacă toate râurile;
Bașanul și Carmelul se veștejesc,
iar floarea Libanului se ofilește.
5Munții se cutremură înaintea Lui,
și dealurile se topesc;
se clatină pământul înaintea Lui,
lumea și toți locuitorii ei.
6Cine poate sta în fața indignării Sale?
Cine poate îndura apriga Lui mânie?
Furia Lui se revarsă ca focul;
stâncile se prăbușesc înaintea Lui.
7Domnul este bun,
este un loc de scăpare în ziua necazului.
El îi cunoaște pe cei ce se adăpostesc în El.
8Dar, printr‑un potop care se revarsă,7-8 Sau: la El / 8 când se revarsă potopul. Potopul simbolizează aici armata invadatoare (vezi Is. 8:7-8).
El va distruge Ninive din locul ei
și Își va urmări dușmanii în întuneric.
9Ce plănuiți voi împotriva Domnului?
El9 Sau: Orice ați plănui voi împotriva Domnului, / El. oricum va aduce nimicirea;
nenorocirea nu va veni de două ori!9 Sau: dușmanii Lui nu se vor mai ridica a doua oară!
10Căci, în timp ce vor fi ca niște spini încâlciți
și pe când vor fi îmbibați de băutură,
vor fi mistuiți ca o miriște pe deplin uscată.10 Sensul versetului este nesigur.
11Din tine a ieșit
cel ce plănuiește răul împotriva Domnului,
cel ce sfătuiește ticăloșia.
12Așa vorbește Domnul:
„Deși au aliați și sunt mulți,
vor fi secerați și vor pieri.
Chiar dacă te‑am asuprit, Iuda,
nu te voi mai asupri!
13Acum, voi zdrobi jugul lor de pe tine
și‑ți voi rupe legăturile.“
14Iată ce a poruncit Domnul cu privire la tine, Ninive:
„Nu vei mai avea urmași care să‑ți poarte numele!
Voi tăia chipul cioplit și chipul turnat
din casa dumnezeilor tăi.
Îți voi pregăti mormântul,
căci te‑am găsit ușor14 În sensul de: fără valoare; sau căci ești de disprețuit; sau căci ești blestemat (pe baza unei posibile relații între termenul ebraic qalal și cel asirian qalu, care înseamnă blestemat)..“
15Iată pe munți picioarele
celui ce aduce vești bune,
ale celui ce vestește pacea!
Iuda, celebrează‑ți sărbătorile
și împlinește‑ți jurămintele,
căci cel ticălos nu te va mai invada;
va fi nimicit cu desăvârșire.
