1Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;4.1 the children…: Heb. the sons of the transportation 2Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither. 3But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us. 4Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, 5And hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
6And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.4.6 Ahasuerus: Heb. Ahashverosh

23¶ Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.4.23 by force…: Chaldee, by arm and power 24Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Nagahalad na kami kaniya, sukad pa sa panahon ni Esarhadon nga hari sa Asiria nga mao ang nagdala kanamo dinhi.” 3Apan mao kini ang tubag nila ni Zerubabel, Jeshua, ug sa mga pangulo sa mga pamilya: “Gisugo kami ni Cyrus nga hari sa Persia nga pagatukoron pag-usab ang templo. Apan wala kamoy labot sa pagpatukod niini alang sa among Dios. Kami lang ang magapatukod niini para sa Ginoo, ang Dios sa Israel.”

Ang Pagbabag sa Pagpatukod sa Templo sa Panahon ni Haring Artaxerxes
6Sa pagsugod sa paghari ni Ahasuerus, ang mga kaaway sa mga lumulupyo sa Juda ug sa Jerusalem nagsulat ug mga sumbong batok kanila. 7Ug sa dihang si Artaxerxes na ang hari sa Persia, nagsulat usab kaniya sila si Bishlam, Mitredat, Tabeel, ug ang uban pa nilang mga kauban. Gisulat nila kini sa pinulongan nga Aramico ug gihubad kini sa pinulongan sa taga-Persia.
8-11Nagsulat usab si Rehum nga gobernador ug si Shimshai nga sekretaryo kang Haring Artaxerxes batok sa mga taga-Jerusalem. Mao kini ang ilang sulat:
“Mahal nga Haring Artaxerxes:
“Una sa tanan nagapangumusta kami kanimo, kami nga imong mga alagad dinhi sa probinsya sa kasadpan sa Eufrates. Apil sa mga nagapangumusta mao ang among mga kauban nga mga pangulo ug mga opisyal, ang mga katawhan sa Tripolis, Persia, Erek, Babilonia, ug ang katawhan sa Susa sa yuta sa Elam. Nagapangumusta usab ang mga katawhan nga gipapahawa sa ilang mga dapit ni Osnapar, ang bantogan ug gamhanan nga hari sa Asiria, ug gipapuyo niya sa siyudad sa Samaria ug sa ubang mga dapit sa kasadpan sa Eufrates.
12“Mahal nga Hari, buot namong mahibaloan mo nga ang mga Judio nga gikan sa imong nasod namalik dinhi sa among dapit ug gitukod pag-usab ang daotan ug rebelde nga siyudad sa Jerusalem. Hapit na gani nila mahuman ug ayo ang mga paril ug ang mga pundasyon niini. 13Mahal nga Hari, angay ka usab masayod nga kon matukod pag-usab kining siyudad ug mahuman na ang mga paril niini, dili na mobayad sa mga buhis ug sa uban pang mga bayranan ang mga tawo, ug makaapekto kini sa panudlanan sa gingharian.
14“Tungod kay may katungdanan kami kanimo, Mahal nga Hari, ug dili namo buot nga ikaw maulawan, gipahibalo namo kini kanimo 15aron masusi mo ang mga kasulatan nga gitipigan sa imong mga katigulangan. Pinaagi niini, mahibaloan mo nga ang mga lumulupyo sa siyudad sa Jerusalem rebelde sukad pa kaniadto. Mao gani nga gilaglag kining siyudara tungod kay nahimo kining problema sa mga hari ug sa mga nasod. 16Buot lang namo ipahibalo kanimo, Mahal nga Hari, nga kon matukod pag-usab kining siyudara ug mahuman ang mga paril niini, mawala kanimo ang probinsya nga anaa sa kasadpan sa Eufrates.”
17Mao kini ang tubag nga gipadala sa hari:
“Nangumusta ako kaninyo Gobernador Rehum ug Sekretaryo Shimshai, ug sa inyong mga kauban nga nagpuyo sa Samaria ug sa ubang mga dapit sa kasadpan sa Eufrates.
“Hinaut nga maayo ang inyong kahimtang.
18“Ang sulat nga inyong gipadala gihubad sa among pinulongan ug gibasa kanako. 19Nagmando ako nga susihon ang mga kasulatan, ug napamatud-an nga tinuod gayod nga sukad pa kaniadto ang mga lumulupyo sa Jerusalem kanunay nga nagasupak sa mga hari. Naandan na niining dapita ang pagrebelde batok sa gobyerno. 20Nahibaloan ko usab nga ang Jerusalem, ingon man ang tibuok probinsya sa kasadpan sa Eufrates, gidumalahan sa mga gamhanan nga mga hari ug nangolekta kanila ug mga buhis ug uban pang mga bayranan.
21“Karon, pagpagawas kamo ug mando nga undangon na nianang mga tawhana ang pagtukod pag-usab sa siyudad hangtod nga dili ako momando nga tukoron kana. 22Himoa dayon ninyo kini aron dili madaot ang akong gingharian.”
23Human mabasa ngadto kanila ni Rehum, Shimshai, ug sa ilang mga kauban ang sulat ni Haring Artaxerxes, miadto dayon sila sa Jerusalem ug gipugos ang mga Judio sa pag-undang sa pagtukod pag-usab sa siyudad.
Gipadayon ang Pagtukod sa Templo
24Naundang ang pagtukod sa templo sa Dios sa Jerusalem hangtod sa ikaduhang tuig sa paghari ni Darius sa Persia.
