1If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him: 2Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain: 3And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke; 4And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer’s neck there in the valley: 5And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:21.5 word: Heb. mouth 6And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley: 7And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. 8Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. 10¶ When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, 11And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; 12Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;21.12 pare: or, suffer to grow: Heb. make, or, dress 13And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. 14And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.
15¶ If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: 16Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: 17But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.21.17 that…: Heb. that is found with him
18¶ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Ispășire pentru crimele făptașilor nedescoperiți
1Dacă în țara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ți‑o dă în stăpânire vei găsi pe câmp un om ucis și nu știi cine l‑a omorât, 2bătrânii tăi și judecătorii tăi să iasă și să măsoare distanța de la cel ucis până la cetățile din jur. 3Când se va afla cetatea cea mai apropiată de cel ucis, bătrânii acelei cetăți să ia din turmă o juncană cu care nu s‑a lucrat și care n‑a tras la jug. 4Apoi, bătrânii acelei cetăți să coboare juncana într‑o vale cu apă curgătoare, care nu a fost lucrată și nici semănată, și să‑i frângă gâtul juncanei acolo, în vale. 5Preoții leviți să se apropie, pentru că pe ei i‑a ales Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, ca să‑I slujească, să binecuvânteze în Numele Lui și să decidă cu privire la orice ceartă și la orice rănire. 6Atunci toți bătrânii din cetatea aceea cea mai apropiată de cel ucis, să se spele pe mâini în apă, deasupra juncanei căreia i‑au frânt gâtul 7și să declare: «Mâinile noastre nu au vărsat sângele acesta, și ochii noștri nu l‑au văzut vărsându‑se! 8Doamne, primește această ispășire pentru poporul Tău Israel, pe care Tu l‑ai răscumpărat și nu face vinovat poporul Israel de sângele unui om nevinovat.» Și se va face ispășire pentru ei din cauza sângelui vărsat. 9Așa vei șterge vina pentru sângele nevinovat care este în mijlocul tău, pentru că astfel faci ce este drept în ochii Domnului.
Reglementări privind relațiile familiale
10Când vei ieși la război împotriva dușmanilor tăi și Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îi va da în mâna ta și vei lua captivi, 11dacă printre ei vei vedea o femeie frumoasă la chip și te vei îndrăgosti de ea, vei putea s‑o iei de soție. 12S‑o aduci în familia ta. Să se radă pe cap, să‑și taie unghiile, 13să‑și schimbe haina pe care o purta când a fost luată captivă, să nu iasă din casă și să plângă pe tatăl și pe mama ei o lună. 15Dacă un om are două soții și pe una o iubește, iar pe cealaltă n‑o mai iubește și are copii de la amândouă, dacă întâiul născut este de la soția pe care n‑o iubește, 16în ziua când va împărți moștenirea între fiii lui, nu va putea da dreptul de întâi născut fiului celei pe care o iubește în defavoarea întâiului său născut care este fiul soției pe care n‑o iubește. 17Dimpotrivă, să recunoască dreptul de întâi născut pentru fiul soției pe care n‑o iubește și să‑i dea o parte dublă din tot ceea ce are, căci el este primul rod al puterii sale și lui i se cuvine dreptul de întâi născut.
18Dacă un om are un fiu neascultător și răzvrătit, care nu ascultă de glasul tatălui său, nici de glasul mamei sale, și nu ascultă nici după ce l‑au disciplinat, 19tatăl și mama acestuia să‑l ia și să‑l aducă la bătrânii cetății lui, la poarta cetății19 Lit.: locului său, cu referire la cetatea în care locuiește.. 20Să le spună bătrânilor cetății lui astfel: «Acest fiu al nostru este neascultător și răzvrătit! Nu ascultă de noi și este un risipitor și un bețiv.» 21Atunci toți bărbații din cetatea lui să‑l omoare cu pietre. Astfel, să nimicești răul din mijlocul tău. Tot Israelul va auzi și se va teme.

Să nu pângărești pământul pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ți‑l dă ca moștenire.
