1And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies; 2That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. 3And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.

12¶ And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 14I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. 16And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. 17According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
18¶ Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? 19And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?7.19 manner: Heb. law 20And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant. 21For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them. 22Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 23And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 24For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God. 25And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said. 26And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee. 27For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.7.27 revealed: Heb. opened the ear 28And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: 29Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.7.29 let it…: Heb. be thou pleased and bless
وعدهٔ خداوند به داوود
(اول تواريخ 17:1-15)
1داوود پادشاه در كاخ خود در امنيت ساكن شد، زيرا خداوند او را از شر تمام دشمنانش رهانيده بود. 2يک روز داوود به ناتان نبی گفت: «من در اين كاخ زيبا كه با چوب سرو ساخته شده است زندگی می‌كنم، در حالی که صندوق عهد خدا در يک خيمه نگهداری می‌شود!»
3ناتان در جواب وی گفت: «آنچه را كه در نظر داری انجام بده، زيرا خداوند با توست.»
4اما همان شب خداوند به ناتان فرمود 5كه برود و به خدمتگزار او داوود چنين بگويد: «تو نمی‌توانی برای من خانه‌ای بسازی. 6من هرگز در يک ساختمان ساكن نبوده‌ام. از آن زمانی كه بنی‌اسرائيل را از مصر بيرون آوردم تا امروز، خانهٔ من يک خيمه بوده است، و از جايی به جای ديگر در حركت بوده‌ام. 7در طول اين مدت، هرگز به هيچكدام از رهبران اسرائيل كه آنها را برای شبانی قوم خود تعيين نموده بودم، نگفتم كه چرا برايم خانه‌ای از چوب سرو نساخته‌ايد؟
8«حال خداوند قادر متعال می‌فرمايد كه وقتی چوپان ساده‌ای بيش نبودی و در چراگاهها از گوسفندان نگهداری می‌كردی، تو را به رهبری قوم اسرائيل برگزيدم. 9در همه جا با تو بوده‌ام و دشمنانت را نابود كرده‌ام. تو را از اين نيز بزرگتر می‌كنم تا يكی از معروفترين مردان دنيا شوی! 10-11برای قوم خود سرزمينی انتخاب كردم تا در آن سروسامان بگيرند. اين وطن آنها خواهد بود و قومهای بت‌پرست، ديگر مثل سابق كه قوم من تازه وارد اين سرزمين شده بودند، بر آنها ظلم نخواهند كرد. تو را از شر تمام دشمنانت حفظ خواهم كرد. اين منم كه خانهٔ تو را می‌سازم. 12وقتی تو بميری و به اجدادت ملحق شوی، من يكی از پسرانت را وارث تاج و تخت تو می‌سازم و حكومت او را تثبيت می‌كنم. 13او همان كسی است كه خانه‌ای برای من خواهد ساخت و من سلطنت او را تا به ابد پايدار خواهم كرد. 14من پدر او و او پسر من خواهد بود، اما اگر مرتكب گناه شود، او را سخت مجازات خواهم كرد. 15ولی محبت من از او دور نخواهد شد، آن طور كه از شائول دور شد و باعث گرديد سلطنت او به تو منتقل شود. 16بدان كه خاندان تو تا به ابد باقی خواهد ماند و در حضور من سلطنت خواهد كرد.»
17پس ناتان نزد داوود برگشته، آنچه را كه خداوند فرموده بود به او بازگفت.
دعای داوود
(اول تواريخ 17:16-27)
18آنگاه داوود به خيمهٔ عبادت رفت. او در آنجا نشست و در حضور خداوند چنين دعا كرد: «ای خداوند، من كيستم و خاندان من چيست كه مرا به اين مقام رسانده‌ای؟ 19به اين هم اكتفا نكردی بلكه به نسل آيندهٔ من نيز وعده دادی. ای خداوند بزرگ آيا با همه اينچنين رفتار می‌كنی؟ 20ديگر داوود چه گويد كه تو او را خوب می‌شناسی! 21اين خواست تو بود كه اين كارهای بزرگ را بكنی و به اين وسيله مرا تعليم بدهی. 22ای خداوند من، چقدر با عظمت هستی! هرگز نشنيده‌ايم كه خدايی مثل تو وجود داشته باشد! تو خدای بی‌نظيری هستی! 23در سراسر دنيا، كدام قوم است كه مثل قوم تو، بنی‌اسرائيل، چنين بركتی يافته باشد؟ تو بنی‌اسرائيل را رهانيدی تا از آنها برای خود قومی بسازی و نامت را پرآوازه كنی. با معجزات عظيم، مصر و خدايانش را نابود كردی. 24بنی‌اسرائيل را تا به ابد قوم خود ساختی و تو ای خداوند، خدای ايشان شدی.
25«ای خداوند، آنچه كه دربارهٔ من و خاندانم وعده فرموده‌ای، انجام بده! 26اسم تو تا ابد ستوده شود و مردم بگويند: خداوند قادر متعال، خدای اسرائيل است. تو خاندان مرا تا ابد حفظ خواهی كرد. 27ای خداوند قادر متعال، ای خدای اسرائيل! تو به من وعده دادی كه خاندان من تا به ابد بر قوم تو سلطنت كند. به همين سبب است كه جرأت كرده‌ام چنين دعايی در حضورت بنمايم. 28ای خداوند، تو واقعا خدا هستی و قولهايت راست است و اين وعده‌های خوب از توست. 29پس خواهش می‌كنم چنانكه قول داده‌ای عمل كنی و خاندانم را بركت دهی، باشد كه خاندان من هميشه در حضور تو پايدار بماند و بركت تو تا به ابد بر خاندان من باشد.»
