1But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. 2For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me? 3And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. 4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. 5But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. 6Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. 7So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. 8Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. 9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. 10To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; 11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 12Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord, 13I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia. 14Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. 15For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
1Astfel, am hotărât în mine însumi să nu mai vin din nou la voi cu întristare. 2Căci, dacă eu vă întristez, atunci cine mă mai înveselește pe mine, dacă nu cel întristat de mine? 3Și am scris în felul acesta, pentru ca, atunci când voi veni, să nu fiu întristat de cei care ar trebui să mă bucure, căci sunt convins, cu privire la voi toți, că bucuria mea este bucuria voastră, a tuturor. 4Căci v‑am scris cu mult necaz și durere în inimă, printre multe lacrimi, nu ca să vă întristați, ci ca să cunoașteți dragostea nespus de mare pe care o am față de voi.
Iertarea celui păcătos
5Dacă cineva a fost un motiv de întristare, nu pe mine m‑a întristat, ci, într‑o oarecare măsură, ca să nu fiu prea sever, pe voi toți. 6Este destul pentru acesta pedeapsa dată de cei mai mulți. 7Astfel, dimpotrivă, ar trebui mai degrabă să‑l iertați și să‑l încurajați, ca să nu fie copleșit de prea multă întristare. 8De aceea, vă îndemn să vă întăriți dragostea față de el. 9Căci v‑am scris și ca să vă încerc caracterul, să aflu dacă sunteți ascultători în toate. 10Pe cine iertați voi îl iert și eu. Căci ceea ce am iertat, dacă am iertat ceva, a fost de dragul vostru, în prezența lui Cristos, 11ca să nu‑l lăsăm pe Satan11 Cuvânt împrumutat din ebraică, însemnând vrăjmaș sau acuzator. Ulterior acesta a devenit un nume propriu folosit cu referire la cel care este acuzatorul, în mod special în perioada NT. Termenul diabolos este traducerea grecească a lui Satan. să profite de noi, pentru că noi nu suntem în necunoștință de planurile lui.
12Când am venit la Troa pentru Evanghelia12 Termenul Evanghelie înseamnă: Vestea Bună [peste tot în carte]. lui Cristos și mi‑a fost deschisă o ușă de către Domnul, 13n‑am avut liniște în duhul meu, pentru că nu l‑am găsit acolo pe Titus, fratele meu. Astfel, mi‑am luat rămas bun de la ei și m‑am dus în Macedonia.
Lucrarea apostolică
14Dar mulțumiri fie aduse lui Dumnezeu, Care întotdeauna ne face să triumfăm în Cristos și răspândește prin noi în orice loc aroma cunoașterii Lui. 15Căci, pentru Dumnezeu, noi suntem mireasma lui Cristos printre cei ce sunt mântuiți și printre cei ce pier – 16pentru aceștia o aromă de la moarte spre moarte, iar pentru aceia o aromă de la viață spre viață. Și cine este destoinic pentru aceste lucruri? 17Căci noi nu suntem asemenea celor mulți, care profită de pe urma Cuvântului17 Sau: care corup Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, ci vorbim înaintea17 Sau: în prezența lui lui Dumnezeu, în Cristos, din sinceritate, ca din partea lui Dumnezeu.
