1And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. 2And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. 3And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? 4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5¶ And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. 6But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.21.7 And…: Heb. And it was evil in the eyes of the LORD concerning this thing 8And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9¶ And the LORD spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying, 10Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.21.10 offer: Heb. stretch out 11So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee21.11 Choose…: Heb. Take to thee 12Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me. 13And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.21.13 very great: or, very many
14¶ So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. 15And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.21.15 Ornan: also called, Araunah 16And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. 17And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
18¶ Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD. 20And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.21.20 And Ornan…: or, When Ornan turned back and saw the angel, then he and his four sons with him hid themselves 21And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. 22Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.21.22 Grant: Heb. Give 23And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all. 24And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost. 25So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. 26And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. 27And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
28¶ At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. 29For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon. 30But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

Unya balik kamo dinhi aron mahibaloan ko kon pila silang tanan.”
3Apan mitubag si Joab, “Hinaut pa nga padaghanon sa Ginoo sa 100 ka pilo ang imong katawhan. Apan, Mahal nga Hari, nganong buhaton mo man kini? Dili ba mga sakop mo man sila? Nganong iangin mo man sila sa pagpakasala?”
4Apan miinsister gayod si David, busa gilibot ni Joab ang tibuok Israel, ug unya mibalik sa Jerusalem. 5Gisugilon niya kang David ang gidaghanon sa mga lalaki nga makahimo sa pagpakiggira: 1,100,000 sa Israel ug 470,000 sa Juda. 6Apan wala iapil ni Joab sa pag-ihap ang tribo ni Levi ug ni Benjamin tungod kay supak gayod siya sa gisugo sa hari. 7Wala usab makagusto ang Dios niini, busa gisilotan niya ang Israel. 8Unya miingon si David sa Dios, “Nakasala gayod ako sa akong gihimo. Busa, Ginoo, nagapakilooy ako nga imong alagad nga pasayloon mo ako sa akong sala, kay kinabuang gayod ang akong gihimo.”
9Miingon ang Ginoo kang Gad nga propeta ni David, 10“Adto kang David ug ingna siya nga mao kini ang akong giingon: ‘Aduna akoy tulo ka silot nga papilian kanimo. Pagpili ug usa kay buhaton ko kini.’ ” 11Busa miadto si Gad kang David ug miingon, “Miingon ang Ginoo nga magpili ka niini: 12‘Tulo ka tuig nga gutom, tulo ka bulan nga laglagon kamo sa inyong mga kaaway, o tulo ka adlaw nga katalagman gikan sa Ginoo diin daoton sa anghel sa Ginoo ang tibuok yuta sa Israel.’ Hunahunaa pag-ayo ug pahibaloa ako kon unsay isulti ko sa nagpadala kanako.”
13Mitubag si David kang Gad, “Naglisod gayod ako sa pagpili. Mas maayo pa nga ang Ginoo ang mosilot kanako kay sa tawo, kay maloloy-on kaayo ang Ginoo.” 14Busa nagpadala ang Ginoo ug katalagman sa Israel, ug 70,000 ka mga Israelinhon ang nangamatay. 15Unya nagpadala ang Dios ug anghel aron sa paglaglag sa Jerusalem. Apan samtang gilaglag sa anghel ang Jerusalem, nausab ang hunahuna sa Ginoo sa dihang nakita niya ang pag-antos sa mga tawo. Busa miingon siya sa anghel, “Husto na! Ayaw na silag siloti.” Niadtong higayona ang anghel sa Ginoo didto nagtindog sa may giokanan ni Arauna21:15 Arauna: o, Ornan. nga Jebusihanon.
16Mihangad si David ug nakita niya ang anghel sa Ginoo nga nagatindog tunga-tunga sa langit ug sa yuta. May gikuptan kini nga espada nga gipunting sa Jerusalem. Unya mihapa si David ug ang mga tigdumala sa Israel nga nagbistig sako sa pagpakita sa ilang pagsubo. 17Miingon si David sa Dios, “Ako ang nagsugo nga ihapon ang katawhan. Ako ang nakasala ug naghimo niining hilabihan kadaotang buhat. Kining mga tawo sama sa inosenteng mga karnero. Wala silay nahimong sala. O Ginoo nga akong Dios, ako na lang ug ang akong pamilya ang siloti. Ayaw na paantosa ang imong katawhan niini nga katalagman.”
18Unya gisugo sa anghel sa Ginoo si Gad sa pag-ingon kang David nga motungas didto sa giokanan ni Arauna nga Jebusihanon ug maghimo didto ug halaran alang sa Ginoo. 19Busa mitungas si David aron sa pagtuman sa gisugo sa Ginoo pinaagi kang Gad.
20Niadtong higayona, naggiok ug trigo si Arauna ug ang iyang upat ka mga anak nga lalaki. Sa dihang nakita nila ang anghel sa Ginoo, nanagan ang upat ka anak ni Arauna ug nanago. 21Unya nakita ni Arauna nga nagpadulong si David. Busa mibiya siya sa giokanan ug miyukbo atubangan ni David. 22Miingon si David kaniya, “Ibaligya kanako ang imong giokanan aron makapatindog ako ug halaran alang sa Ginoo, aron maundang ang katalagman nga midangat sa mga tawo. Bayran ko ikaw sa ensaktong bili niini.”
23Miingon si Arauna kang David, “Sige, kuhaa kini Mahal nga Hari. Himoa kon unsay maayo sa imong panan-aw. Ihatag ko ang mga baka alang sa halad nga sinunog, ang mga kahoy nga ginagamit sa paggiok aron isugnod, ug ang trigo aron ihalad sa pagpasidungog sa Ginoo. Oo, ihatag ko kining tanan kanimo.”
24Apan mitubag si Haring David kang Arauna, “Dili ko kini kuhaon nga libre. Bayran ko ikaw sa ensaktong bili niini. Dili mahimong kuhaon ko lang kini gikan kanimo nga walay bayad ug unya ihalad sa Ginoo. Dili ako maghalad ug halad nga sinunog nga wala ko bayri.” 25Busa gibayran ni David si Arauna ug 600 ka buok21:25 600 ka buok: mga pito ka kilo. bulawan alang niadto nga dapit. 26Unya naghimo siya didto ug halaran alang sa Ginoo ug naghalad sa mga halad nga sinunog ug mga halad alang sa maayong relasyon. Unya nagaampo siya, ug gitubag siya sa Ginoo pinaagi sa pagpadala ug kalayo gikan sa langit nga misunog sa mga halad sa halaran. 27Unya giingnan sa Ginoo ang anghel nga ibalik ang iyang espada sa sakoban.
28Sa dihang nakita ni David nga gitubag sa Ginoo ang iyang pag-ampo, naghalad pa gayod siya ug mga halad didto sa giokanan ni Arauna nga Jebusihanon. 29Niadtong panahona, ang Tolda sa Ginoo nga gipahimo ni Moises didto sa kamingawan, ug ang halaran alang sa mga halad nga sinunog didto mahimutang sa habog nga dapit sa Gibeon. 30Apan dili makaadto si David didto sa pagpangutana sa Dios, tungod kay nahadlok siya sa espada sa anghel sa Ginoo.
