主の家を再建するようにとの呼びかけ
1表題――主からのメッセージ。あて先――預言者ハガイ。それを、シェアルティエルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルと、エホツァダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアに伝えた。時代――ダリヨス一世の治世の第二年の第六の月の一日。
2「なぜ、今はわたしの神殿を再建するのにふさわしい時ではないと、だれもが言うのか」と主は尋ねます。 3-4彼らに対する主の答えはこうです。「では、神殿が荒れはてたままなのに、あなたがたはぜいたくな家に住むのにふさわしい時なのだろうか。 5その結果を見よ。 6たくさん種をまいても、ほとんど収穫がない。飲み食いにも事欠き、寒さを防ぐ衣服も十分にない。収入は、穴の開いた財布に入れるようにすぐなくなる。」
7全能の主はこう言います。「自分たちがどのようなことをしてきたか、その結果どうなったかをよく考えなさい。 8そして、山に登り、材木を切り出して、わたしの神殿を再建するのだ。わたしは喜んで受け入れ、わたしの栄光をそこに現そう。 9あなたがたは多くを望んでも、少ししか得られない。それを家に持ち帰っても、わたしが吹き飛ばす。結局続かないのだ。なぜか。わたしの神殿が廃墟のままなのに、気にかけないからだ。自分たちのりっぱな家にばかり気を配っている。 10それゆえ、わたしは天から雨を降らせず、わずかな収穫しか与えない。 11事実、平地にも高地にも、日照りを呼び寄せた。麦もぶどうもオリーブも他の穀物も、みな干からび、人も家畜も飢えに苦しむ。いくら仕事に精を出しても、すべては水の泡だ。」
12そこで、シェアルティエルの子でユダの総督ゼルバベルと、エホツァダクの子で大祭司ヨシュアと、その地に残ったわずかな民は、ハガイが語った、彼らの神、主からのことばに従いました。真剣に主を礼拝するようになったのです。 13その時主は、主の使者であるハガイを通して再びメッセージを送り、彼らに語りました。「あなたがたと共にいて祝福する」と。 14-15そして、主は神殿再建の願いを彼らに起こさせたので、彼らはダリヨス王の治世第二年の第六の月の二十四日にみな集まり、進んで仕事に取りかかりました。
1In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying, 1.1 by: Heb. by the hand of1.1 governor: or, captain 2Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built. 3Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? 5Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.1.5 Consider…: Heb. 7¶ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.1.7 Consider…: Heb. Set your heart on your ways 8Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. 9Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.1.9 blow…: or, blow it away 10Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. 11And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
12¶ Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. 13Then spake Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD. 14And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, 15In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
