新しい家に約束された神の栄光
1同じ年の第七の月の二十一日に、主は次のようなことばをハガイを通して彼らに送りました。 2「総督と大祭司、およびこの地に残っているすべての者に、こう尋ねよ。 3『あなたがたの中に、前にあった神殿を思い出せる者がいるか。それは栄光に輝く神殿であった。それに比べると、今は無に等しいのではないか。 4しかし勇気を出せ、ゼルバベル、ヨシュア、すべての民よ。元気を出して働け。わたしが共にいるのだからと、全能の主が言われる。 5エジプトを出た時、わたしの霊がおまえたちにとどまる、と約束した。だから恐れるな。』
6全能の主は語ります。『しばらくして、わたしは天と地を、また海も、そして乾いた地を揺り動かし始める。 7すべての国を揺り動かす。すべての国の望みである者がこの神殿に来て、わたしはここをわたしの栄光で満たす。 8-9この神殿の未来の輝きは、最初の神殿の輝きより大きくなる。それに必要な金銀を、わたしがたくさん持っているからだ。そしてわたしは、ここに平和をもたらす』と主は言われる。」
汚れた人への祝福
10ダリヨス王の治世第二年の第九の月の二十四日に、次のようなことばが、主から預言者ハガイを通して示されました。「 11祭司たちに、律法について次のように尋ねよ。 12『あなたたちのうちだれかが、聖なるいけにえを衣のすそに入れて運んでいて、そのすそがパンかぶどう酒か肉に触れたなら、触れたものも聖なるものとなるか。』」祭司は答えました。「いや、そんなことできよさは他のものに移らない。」
13ハガイは続けて尋ねました。「しかし、だれかが死人に触れるなら汚れる。では、その人が何かに触れると、それも汚れるか。」「そのとおり」と祭司たちは答えました。
14ハガイは質問の真意をはっきりさせて、こう言いました。「あなたがた民は、身勝手な態度と良くない思いをもって過ごすことで、自分がささげるいけにえを汚していた。いけにえだけではなく、わたしに対する奉仕として行うことも汚していた。 15それで、なすことすべてうまくいかなかったのだ。だが、今からは違う。神殿を建て始めたからだ。 16-17前には二十束の収穫を期待しても、十束しかなかった。五十桶分のオリーブ油を絞ろうとしても、二十桶分しか絞れなかった。立ち枯れ病と黒穂病と雹で、あなたがたの労働に報いたからだ。それでもあなたがたは、わたしのもとに帰ろうとしなかった、と主は言われる。
18-19さあ今、このことを心に留めよ。この月の二十四日、すなわち、主の神殿の土台が据えられたこの日から、そしてこの日から先、わたしはあなたがたを祝福しよう。心に留めよ。あなたがたが神殿の再建を始める前、穀物を刈り入れる前に、ぶどう、いちじく、ざくろ、オリーブが実を結ぶ前に約束しておこう。今日からのち、わたしはあなたがたを祝福する。」
主の指輪であるゼルバベル
20同じ日に、主からもう一つのことばがハガイに示されました。 21「ユダの総督ゼルバベルに告げよ。『わたしは天と地を揺り動かそうとしている。 22王座をくつがえし、諸国民の王国の力を滅ぼそうとしている。わたしはその兵力を砕き、兄弟や仲間は互いに殺し合う。 23しかし、そのことが起こったら、わたしのしもべゼルバベルよ、あなたを選んで、わたしの指にはめた印章のように誉れを授ける。わたしがあなたを選んだからだ。』このように、全能の主は言われる。」
1In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying, 2.1 by: Heb. by the hand of 2Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying, 3Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing? 4Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts: 5According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not. 6For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. 8The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. 9The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
10¶ In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 11Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, 12If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. 13Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. 14Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. 15And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD: 16Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty. 17I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD. 18Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider it. 19Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
20¶ And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, 21Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; 22And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. 23In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
