バビロン陥落の預言
1これは、バビロンについての神のことばです。
ネゲブから吹きつける竜巻のように、
荒野から恐ろしい災難が、
うなり声を上げてあなたを襲う。
2主は幻の中で、将来起こる恐ろしい出来事を
私に示しました。
見ると、エラム人とメディヤ人（どちらも、バビロンの東、ティグリス川の東側に住む民）が包囲網に加わり、
あなたがたは略奪され、破壊されています。
バビロンは陥落し、
今までバビロンの仕打ちに泣いていた
国々のうめきは、二度と聞かれなくなります。
3私の胃袋はしめつけられ、苦痛で焼けつくようです。
子どもを産もうとする女に苦しみが臨むように、
激しい苦痛が私を襲います。
神の計画を聞いているうちに、
恐怖に取りつかれ、私は失神しそうになりました。
4恐ろしさのあまり、体はすくみ、頭はくらくらし、
心臓は早鐘を打つようです。
夜は心地よい憩いの時だったのに、
今は一睡もできず、恐怖に震えています。
5見なさい。彼らは宴の準備をしています。
テーブルにごちそうを山盛りにし、いすを並べて、
まさに食べようとするところです。
もうすぐ敵が攻めて来ます。
さあ、急いで盾を取り、戦いの支度をしなさい。
6-7主は幻の中で私に命じました。
「城壁には見張りを立て、
変わったことがあったら大声で報告させなさい。
見張りの者が、
ろばやらくだに乗った二列の騎兵が見えると言ったら、
『それだ』と声をかけてやるのだ。」
8-9私は言われたとおり、城壁に見張りを立てました。
やがて、声を振り絞るようにして、
見張りの者が報告してきました。
「来る日も来る日も、
片時も休まず見張ったかいがありました。
ほら、二列に並んだ騎兵がやって来ます。」
その時、彼らの大きな声が響き渡りました。
「バビロンは倒れた。倒れた。
バビロンの偶像は一つ残らず無残に壊され、
投げ捨てられた。」
10脱穀され、ふるいにかけられたユダの人々よ、
天の軍勢の主であるイスラエルの神のことばは、
すべて話しました。
11これは、ドマ（エドムのこと。パレスチナ南部の山地。住民はエサウの子孫で、イスラエルとは深い関係にある）への神のことばです。
「だれかがひっきりなしに私に問いかける。
『見張りの人よ、今は夜の何時ですか。
見張りの人よ、今は夜の何時ですか。
夜明けまで、まだかなり間がありますか。』
12その見張りの者は言う。
『あなたがたのさばかれる日が、
もうそこまで来ています。神に立ち返りなさい。
そうしたら、もっと良い知らせを聞かせましょう。
神を求めなさい。
そのあとでもう一度、聞きに来なさい。』」
13これは、アラビヤについての神のことばです。
「デダンから来た隊商よ、
アラビヤ砂漠に身を隠しなさい。
14テマの人たちよ、疲れきった亡命者に
水と食べ物を持って行ってやりなさい。
15彼らは抜き身の剣と飛び交う矢、
それに戦争の恐怖から、
やっとの思いで逃げて来たのです。
16しかし、主は言います。「もう一年したら、彼らの敵であり、今は絶大な力を持つケダル人の栄光は地に落ちる。 17ごくわずかの勇敢な射手しか残らない。」
イスラエルの神である主が、そう語ったのです。
1The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land. 2A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. 11¶ The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? 12The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.
13¶ The burden upon Arabia.
