Dit sprak de Here tot mijn Heer:
‘Kom naast Mij zitten, aan mijn rechterhand,
totdat Ik uw vijanden aan u onderworpen heb.’
2De Here laat u machtig heersen vanuit Sion.
U bent de overwinnaar over al uw tegenstanders.
3Uw volk volgt u graag
als u het oproept voor de strijd.
Al heel vroeg in de morgen verschijnen
de sterke jongemannen in prachtige kleding.
4De Here heeft een eed afgelegd
waarvan Hij nimmer spijt krijgt:
‘U bent de eeuwige priester,
zoals ook Melchisedek mijn priester was.’
5De Here is aan uw rechterzijde
en verlaat u niet.
Op de dag van zijn toorn
vernietigt Hij de koningen van deze aarde.
6Hij spreekt het vonnis over de ongelovigen uit
en de lijken stapelen zich op.
Hij vernietigt hen, waar zij ook zijn.
7Onderweg lest Hij zijn dorst bij een beek
en Hij draagt het hoofd fier opgeheven.
Psalm 110
Of David. A psalm.
1The Lord says to my lord:110:1 Or Lord
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”
2The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
3Your troops will be willing
on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,
your young men will come to you
like dew from the morning’s womb.110:3 The meaning of the Hebrew for this sentence is uncertain.
4The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
5The Lord is at your right hand110:5 Or My lord is at your right hand, Lord;
he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.
6He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead
and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
7He will drink from a brook along the way,110:7 The meaning of the Hebrew for this clause is uncertain.
and so he will lift his head high.
