Der Wert der Weisheit
1Mein Sohn, höre auf mich und befolge meine Ratschläge! 2Nimm dir die Lebensweisheiten zu Herzen, die ich dir weitergebe, achte genau auf sie und werde klug! 3Ringe um Verstand und Urteilskraft, 4suche danach voller Eifer wie nach einem wertvollen Schatz! 5Dann wirst du den Herrn immer besser kennen lernen und Ehrfurcht vor ihm haben. 6Er allein gibt Weisheit, und nur von ihm kommen Wissen und Urteilskraft. 7Aufrichtigen Menschen schenkt er Gelingen; er hilft allen, die so leben, wie es ihm gefällt. 8Wer andere gerecht behandelt und Gott die Treue hält, steht unter seinem Schutz.
9Mein Sohn, wenn du auf mich hörst, wirst du erkennen, was richtig, gerecht und gut ist. So findest du stets den richtigen Weg. 10Du erlangst Weisheit und hast deine Freude daran, wohlüberlegt zu handeln. 11Deine Umsicht und Besonnenheit werden dich schützen 12und dich davor bewahren, Böses zu tun. Dann bist du gewappnet gegen Menschen, die mit ihren Worten andere täuschen 13und selbst krumme Wege gehen. Solche Leute haben sich vom Guten abgewandt; 14sie führen ständig Böses im Schilde und haben auch noch Spaß daran, das Recht zu verdrehen! 15Alles, was sie sagen und tun, ist verlogen und verkommen.
16Besonnenheit schützt dich auch vor der Frau eines anderen Mannes, vor der Verführerin, die dich mit ihren schmeichelnden Worten umgarnt. 17Dem Mann, den sie in ihrer Jugend geheiratet hat, ist sie untreu – und damit bricht sie den Bund, den sie vor Gott geschlossen hat. 18Ihr Haus steht direkt am Abgrund des Todes: Wer sich ihm nähert, begibt sich in tödliche Gefahr. 19Niemand, der sich mit ihr einlässt, kommt mit dem Leben davon.
20Suche stattdessen nach guten Vorbildern, die dir zeigen, wie man ein rechtschaffenes Leben führt. 21Wer aufrichtig ist und Gott gehorcht, darf lange auf dieser Welt2,21 Oder: in diesem Land. wohnen; 22wer aber Böses tut und Gott die Treue bricht, wird mit einem Mal herausgerissen.

10¶ When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 12To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; 13Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; 14Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; 15Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: 16To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; 17Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. 18For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. 19None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. 20That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 21For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 22But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.2.22 rooted: or, plucked up
