Wer kann Gott begreifen?
1Weiter sagte Elihu:
2»Hab Geduld mit mir
und hör noch ein wenig zu!
Ich will dir zeigen,
dass man noch viel mehr zu Gottes Verteidigung sagen kann.
3Mein ganzes Wissen will ich aufbieten,
um meinem Schöpfer Recht zu verschaffen.
4Ich sage dir die Wahrheit,
vor dir steht ein Mann, der weiß, wovon er spricht –
darauf kannst du dich verlassen!
5Wie mächtig ist Gott!
Und doch verachtet er keinen.
Ja, mächtig ist er und voll Willenskraft.
6Den Gottlosen lässt er nicht am Leben,
doch dem Unterdrückten verhilft er zum Recht.
7Wer ihm die Treue hält, den vergisst er nicht,
nein, er stellt ihn Königen gleich,
betraut ihn für immer mit einem hohen Amt.
8Und wenn Menschen in Ketten liegen, elend gefangen, mit Stricken gefesselt,
9dann redet er ihnen ins Gewissen,
überführt sie von ihrer Schuld und aller Überheblichkeit.
10Er macht sie bereit, auf seine Zurechtweisung zu hören,
und sagt ihnen, sie sollen vom Unrecht ablassen.
11Wenn sie Gott gehorchen und ihm dienen,
werden sie ihre Lebensjahre glücklich und zufrieden verbringen.
12Hören sie aber nicht auf ihn,
rennen sie in ihr eigenes Verderben;
sie sterben ohne jede Einsicht.
13Wer Gott verworfen hat, der ist bitter gegen ihn;
er fleht nicht einmal dann um Gnade,
wenn Gott die Fesseln enger zieht.
14Und so stirbt er noch in jungen Jahren,
verachtet wie die Männer,
die ihren Körper in den Götzentempeln verkaufen.
15Doch wer sich vor Gott demütigt,
den wird er aus dem Elend retten
und ihn in der Not seine Stimme hören lassen.
16Auch dich reißt Gott aus den Klauen der Angst,
er will dir wieder die Freiheit schenken;
dann füllen die besten Speisen wie früher deinen Tisch.
17Jetzt aber lastet das Urteil auf dir,
das die Gottlosen trifft;
die strafende Gerechtigkeit lässt dich nicht entkommen.
18Pass auf, dass dein Zorn dich nicht zum Spötter macht,
lass dich nicht durch Bestechungsgeld verleiten!
19Kannst du dich etwa selbst aus der Bedrängnis retten?
Niemals! Dazu reicht deine ganze Kraft nicht aus.
20Wünsche dir auch nicht die Nacht herbei,
in der ganze Völker verschwinden!36,20 Die Verse 18‒20 sind nicht sicher zu deuten.
21Sei auf der Hut und wende dich nicht dem Bösen zu!
Denn davor wollte dich Gott durch das Leid ja gerade bewahren.
22Halte dir Gottes große Kraft vor Augen!
Er ist der beste Lehrer, den es gibt!
23Niemand schreibt ihm vor,
was er zu tun hat.
Keiner könnte zu ihm sagen:
›Du hast Unrecht getan!‹
24Schon immer haben die Menschen seine Taten besungen,
nun preise auch du ihn!
25Alle Welt sieht staunend seine Taten,
doch man erblickt sie nur von ferne.
26Wie mächtig ist Gott, wie unbegreiflich!
Wer kann seine Jahre zählen?
27Er lässt die Wassertropfen aufsteigen;
gereinigt gehen sie als Regen in die Flüsse nieder.
28Ja, aus den Wolken strömt der Regen,
auf viele Menschen kommt er herab.
29Wer versteht, wie Gott die Wolken auftürmt
und wie am Himmelszelt der Donner kracht?
30Sieh nur, wie Gott Licht um sich verbreitet,
die Meerestiefen aber verbirgt er.
31Er lässt die Regenwolken kommen,
so richtet er die Völker,
aber zugleich versorgt er sie reichlich mit Nahrung.
32Den Blitzstrahl nimmt er fest in beide Hände
und befiehlt ihm dann, sein Ziel zu treffen.
33Donnergrollen kündigt das Gewitter an,
und selbst das Vieh spürt, dass es kommt.

24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold. 25Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off. 26Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. 27For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: 28Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly. 29Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle? 30Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.36.30 bottom: Heb. roots 31For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance. 32With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt. 33The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.36.33 the vapour: Heb. that which goeth up
