1โยรัม3:1 ภาษาฮีบรูว่าเยโฮรัมเป็นอีกรูปหนึ่งของโยรัมเช่นเดียวกับข้อ 6 โอรสของอาหับขึ้นเป็นกษัตริย์แห่งอิสราเอลในสะมาเรีย ตรงกับปีที่สิบแปดของรัชกาลกษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทแห่งยูดาห์ ทรงครองราชย์อยู่สิบสองปี 2พระองค์ทรงทำสิ่งที่ชั่วในสายพระเนตรขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า แต่ไม่ถึงขนาดที่ราชบิดาและราชมารดาของพระองค์ได้ทรงทำไว้ พระองค์ทรงกวาดล้างหินศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของพระบาอัลซึ่งราชบิดาได้สร้างไว้ 3แต่โยรัมยังคงยึดมั่นในบาปของเยโรโบอัมบุตรเนบัทซึ่งชักนำอิสราเอลให้ทำตาม โยรัมไม่ได้เลิกทำบาปนั้น
4ฝ่ายกษัตริย์เมชาแห่งโมอับทรงเลี้ยงแกะ พระองค์ต้องนำลูกแกะหนึ่งแสนตัวและขนแกะตัวผู้หนึ่งแสนตัวมาเป็นบรรณาการแก่กษัตริย์อิสราเอล 5แต่หลังจากอาหับสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว กษัตริย์โมอับก็กบฏต่อกษัตริย์อิสราเอล 6ครั้งนั้นกษัตริย์โยรัมจึงเสด็จจากสะมาเรีย และระดมทัพอิสราเอลทั้งหมด 7และส่งสาส์นไปยังกษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทแห่งยูดาห์ มีใจความว่า “กษัตริย์โมอับกบฏต่อข้าพเจ้า ท่านจะช่วยข้าพเจ้ารบกับโมอับหรือไม่?”
เยโฮชาฟัทตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้าจะไปกับท่าน เราเป็นพวกเดียวกัน คนของข้าพเจ้าก็เหมือนเป็นคนของท่าน ม้าของข้าพเจ้าก็เหมือนเป็นม้าของท่าน”
8กษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทถามว่า “ว่าแต่เราจะโจมตีจากทางไหน?”
โยรัมตอบว่า “จากถิ่นกันดารเอโดม”
9ฉะนั้นกษัตริย์อิสราเอลจึงกรีธาทัพออกไปร่วมรบกับกษัตริย์ยูดาห์และกษัตริย์เอโดม หลังจากอ้อมผ่านถิ่นกันดารเป็นเวลาเจ็ดวันก็ไม่มีน้ำเหลือสำหรับคนและสัตว์พาหนะเลย
10กษัตริย์อิสราเอลตรัสว่า “อะไรกันนี่! องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงนำเราทั้งสามกษัตริย์มาที่นี่เพื่อมอบไว้ในมือของโมอับหรือ?”
11แต่เยโฮชาฟัทตรัสถามว่า “ที่นี่ไม่มีผู้เผยพระวจนะขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเลยหรือ เราจะได้ขอให้ช่วยทูลถามองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า?”
นายทหารคนหนึ่งของกษัตริย์อิสราเอลทูลว่า “เอลีชาบุตรชาฟัทอยู่ที่นี่ เขาเคยเป็นผู้ช่วยของเอลียาห์3:11 หรือเคยเป็นผู้เทน้ำใส่มือเอลียาห์”
12เยโฮชาฟัทตรัสว่า “เราจะรู้พระดำรัสขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจากเขาผู้นี้” ฉะนั้นกษัตริย์อิสราเอล กษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัท และกษัตริย์เอโดมจึงไปพบเอลีชา
13เอลีชากล่าวกับกษัตริย์อิสราเอลว่า “เรามีอะไรเกี่ยวข้องกันหรือ? ไปหาผู้เผยพระวจนะของบิดามารดาท่านสิ”
แต่กษัตริย์อิสราเอลตรัสว่า “ไม่ได้ เพราะองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้านี่แหละทรงเรียกเราทั้งสามกษัตริย์มาเพื่อมอบไว้ในมือของโมอับ”
14เอลีชาตอบว่า “พระยาห์เวห์ผู้ทรงฤทธิ์ซึ่งเรารับใช้ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด ถ้าไม่ใช่เพราะเห็นแก่กษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทแห่งยูดาห์ เราจะไม่มองหน้าท่านฉันนั้น ไม่ใส่ใจด้วยซ้ำว่าท่านอยู่ที่นี่ 15บัดนี้ขอให้ไปหานักเล่นพิณมาคนหนึ่ง”
ขณะที่นักเล่นพิณกำลังบรรเลง พระหัตถ์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามาเหนือเอลีชา 16และเขากล่าวว่า “องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสดังนี้ว่า จงทำให้หุบเขาแห่งนี้เต็มไปด้วยหลุมบ่อ 17เพราะองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสดังนี้ว่า ท่านจะไม่เห็นลมไม่เห็นฝน แต่หุบเขาแห่งนี้จะมีน้ำเต็ม เพื่อให้ท่านกับฝูงวัวและสัตว์อื่นๆ มีน้ำดื่ม 18การนี้เป็นเรื่องง่ายในสายพระเนตรขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ทั้งพระองค์จะทรงมอบโมอับไว้ในมือของท่าน 19ท่านจะพิชิตหัวเมืองเอกและหัวเมืองป้อมปราการทุกเมืองของเขา ท่านจะโค่นต้นไม้งามๆ ทุกต้น อุดตาน้ำทั้งหลายและทำลายแผ่นดินดีๆ ทั้งหมดด้วยหิน”
20วันรุ่งขึ้นประมาณเวลาถวายเครื่องบูชายามเช้า มีน้ำไหลมาจากทางเอโดม ไม่ช้าน้ำก็นองแผ่นดิน
21ฝ่ายโมอับได้ยินว่าบรรดากษัตริย์มารบกับตน ก็เกณฑ์ผู้ชายทุกคนที่พอจะรบทัพจับศึกได้ ไม่ว่าหนุ่มหรือแก่ และให้คนเหล่านั้นประจำการอยู่ที่ชายแดน 22เมื่อพวกโมอับตื่นขึ้นแต่เช้า ดวงอาทิตย์ส่องพื้นน้ำ พวกเขามองเห็นน้ำมีสีแดงฉานเหมือนเลือด 23พวกเขาก็ร้องว่า “เลือดนี่นา! สามทัพนั้นคงตะลุมบอนฆ่าฟันกันเอง พี่น้องโมอับเอ๋ย เราไปริบข้าวของกันดีกว่า!”
24แต่เมื่อพวกโมอับมาถึงค่ายพักของอิสราเอล กองทัพอิสราเอลก็กรูเข้าไปสู้รบจนพวกเขาพ่ายหนี ฝ่ายอิสราเอลบุกเข้าไปในดินแดนและสังหารชาวโมอับ 25พวกเขาทำลายเมืองต่างๆ แต่ละคนเอาก้อนหินกลบพื้นที่ที่อุดมสมบูรณ์เสียหมด ถมทางน้ำทั้งหลาย โค่นต้นไม้ดีๆ ทั้งหมด จนเหลือแต่เมืองคีร์หะเรเสทที่ยังไม่ถูกทำลาย3:25 หรือจนเหลือแต่คีร์หะเรเสทที่ก้อนหินยังอยู่ในที่เดิม แต่คีร์หะเรเสทก็ถูกล้อม และถูกโจมตีด้วยน้ำมือทหารที่ใช้สลิง
26เมื่อกษัตริย์โมอับเห็นว่าแพ้สงคราม จึงนำพลดาบเจ็ดร้อยคนตีฝ่าออกไปด้านกษัตริย์เอโดมแต่ไม่สำเร็จ 27เขาจึงนำโอรสหัวปีซึ่งจะได้เป็นกษัตริย์องค์ต่อไปมาฆ่าและเผาบูชายัญบนกำแพงเมือง พวกเขาคั่งแค้นอิสราเอลยิ่งนักและต่างถอนทัพกลับไปยังดินแดนของตน
1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years. 2And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.3.2 image: Heb. statue 3Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
4¶ And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool. 5But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6¶ And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel. 7And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses. 8And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom. 9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.3.9 that…: Heb. at their feet 10And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab! 11But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. 12And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. 13And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab. 14And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee. 15But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him. 16And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. 17For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. 18And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand. 19And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.3.19 mar: Heb. grieve
20And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

26¶ And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not. 27Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
