1เหตุฉะนั้นลูกของข้าพเจ้าเอ๋ย ท่านจงเข้มแข็งในพระคุณซึ่งมีอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์ 2สิ่งต่างๆ ที่ท่านได้ยินข้าพเจ้าพูดต่อหน้าพยานหลายคนจงมอบหมายแก่ผู้ที่เชื่อถือได้ ซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติเหมาะสมที่จะสอนผู้อื่นด้วย 3จงทนต่อความยากลำบากร่วมกับเราเยี่ยงทหารที่ดีของพระเยซูคริสต์ 4ไม่มีทหารคนใดเข้าประจำการแล้วยังยุ่งเกี่ยวกับเรื่องฝ่ายพลเรือน เขาย่อมมุ่งทำให้ผู้บังคับบัญชาพอใจ 5เช่นกันนักกีฬาย่อมไม่ได้รับมงกุฎแห่งชัยชนะหากไม่แข่งขันตามกติกา 6กสิกรผู้ตรากตรำควรได้รับส่วนแบ่งของพืชผลก่อนใคร 7จงใคร่ครวญสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าได้พูดมา เพราะองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะประทานความเข้าใจอย่างถ่องแท้ในสิ่งทั้งปวงเหล่านี้แก่ท่าน
8จงระลึกถึงพระเยซูคริสต์ซึ่งทรงให้เป็นขึ้นจากตาย ทรงสืบเชื้อสายจากดาวิด นี่คือข่าวประเสริฐที่ข้าพเจ้าประกาศ 9เพื่อข่าวประเสริฐนี้ข้าพเจ้าจึงทนทุกข์อยู่ ถึงขนาดถูกล่ามโซ่เหมือนโจรผู้ร้าย แต่ไม่มีใครเอาโซ่ล่ามพระวจนะของพระเจ้าไว้ได้ 10ฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้ายอมทนทุกอย่างเพื่อเห็นแก่ผู้ที่ทรงเลือกสรรไว้ เพื่อว่าคนเหล่านั้นจะได้รับความรอดซึ่งอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์พร้อมด้วยศักดิ์ศรีนิรันดร์
11นี่เป็นคำกล่าวที่เชื่อถือได้คือ
ถ้าเราตายกับพระองค์
เราก็จะมีชีวิตกับพระองค์ด้วย
12ถ้าเราอดทน
เราก็จะได้ครองร่วมกับพระองค์ด้วย
ถ้าเราปฏิเสธพระองค์
พระองค์ก็จะทรงปฏิเสธเราด้วย
13ถ้าเราไม่สัตย์ซื่อ
พระองค์ก็ยังคงสัตย์ซื่อ
เพราะพระองค์ปฏิเสธพระองค์เองไม่ได้
คนงานที่พระเจ้าพอพระทัย
14จงหมั่นเตือนประชากรทั้งหลายให้ระลึกถึงสิ่งเหล่านี้ จงตักเตือนพวกเขาต่อหน้าพระเจ้าไม่ให้โต้เถียงกันเรื่องคำต่างๆ ซึ่งไร้ค่า มีแต่จะทำลายผู้ฟัง 15จงพยายามอย่างสุดกำลังที่จะให้ตัวท่านเป็นผู้ที่พระเจ้าทรงรับรอง เป็นคนงานที่ไม่ต้องอับอาย และใช้ถ้อยคำแห่งความจริงอย่างถูกต้อง 16จงหลีกห่างจากการพูดจาไร้สาระไม่ยำเกรงพระเจ้าซึ่งจะนำผู้ที่หมกมุ่นให้ยิ่งต่ำทรามลง 17คำสอนของพวกเขาแพร่ลามเหมือนเนื้อร้าย ฮิเมเนอัสกับฟีเลทัสก็อยู่ในพวกนี้ 18เขาทั้งสองเตลิดจากความจริง พวกเขากล่าวว่าการเป็นขึ้นจากตายได้ผ่านพ้นไปแล้ว และได้ทำลายความเชื่อของบางคนลง 19แต่รากฐานมั่นคงของพระเจ้าตั้งอยู่อย่างไม่คลอนแคลน ประทับตราด้วยข้อความที่ว่า “พระเจ้าทรงรู้จักบรรดาผู้ที่เป็นของพระองค์”2:19 กดว.16:5 และ “ทุกคนที่เอ่ยพระนามขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจงหลีกหนีจากความชั่วร้าย”
20ในบ้านหลังใหญ่ไม่ใช่มีแต่ภาชนะทองและเงินเท่านั้น แต่มีภาชนะไม้และดินด้วย บางชิ้นใช้ในงานที่ทรงเกียรติ บางชิ้นเพื่อใช้สอยธรรมดา 21ถ้าผู้ใดชำระตนให้พ้นจากสิ่งไร้ค่า เขาก็จะเป็นภาชนะอันทรงเกียรติ ได้รับการชำระให้บริสุทธิ์ มีประโยชน์สำหรับองค์เจ้านาย และถูกเตรียมไว้พร้อมเพื่อจะทำการดีทุกประการ
22ท่านจงหนีจากราคะตัณหาของคนหนุ่มและจงใฝ่หาความชอบธรรม ความเชื่อ ความรัก และสันติสุขร่วมกับบรรดาผู้ที่ร้องเรียกองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าด้วยใจบริสุทธิ์ 23อย่าข้องแวะกับการโต้แย้งต่างๆ อันโง่เขลาไร้สาระเพราะท่านรู้ว่าสิ่งเหล่านี้ก่อให้เกิดการทะเลาะวิวาท 24ฝ่ายผู้รับใช้ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าต้องไม่ทะเลาะวิวาท แต่เขาต้องสุภาพอ่อนโยนต่อทุกคน สามารถสอนผู้อื่นได้ ไม่เจ้าอารมณ์ 25เขาต้องชี้แจงอย่างสุภาพแก่บรรดาผู้ที่ต่อต้านเขาโดยหวังว่าพระเจ้าจะทรงให้คนเหล่านี้กลับใจเพื่อจะรู้ถึงความจริง 26และโดยหวังว่าคนเหล่านี้จะได้สติและหลุดพ้นจากกับดักของมารซึ่งได้จับพวกเขาไว้เป็นเชลยให้ทำตามความประสงค์ของมัน
1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. 6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. 7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: 9Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 10Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
