แท่นบูชาที่ภูเขาเอบาล
1โมเสสและผู้อาวุโสของอิสราเอลสั่งประชากรว่า “จงปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาทั้งปวงซึ่งข้าพเจ้าแจ้งท่านในวันนี้ 2เมื่อท่านข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนเข้าสู่ดินแดนซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านประทานให้ จงตั้งหินใหญ่จำนวนหนึ่งขึ้นและฉาบปูน 3จารึกเนื้อความบทบัญญัตินี้ไว้บนหินเหล่านั้น เมื่อท่านข้ามไปสู่ดินแดนซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านประทานแก่ท่าน ซึ่งเป็นดินแดนที่อุดมด้วยน้ำนมและน้ำผึ้งตามที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของบรรพบุรุษของท่านทรงสัญญาไว้กับท่าน 4และเมื่อท่านข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไป จงตั้งหินเหล่านี้ขึ้นบนภูเขาเอบาลตามที่ข้าพเจ้าสั่งท่านวันนี้ และฉาบด้วยปูน 5จงสร้างแท่นบูชาหินขึ้นที่นั่นถวายแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่าน อย่าใช้เครื่องมือเหล็กสกัดหินเหล่านั้น 6จงสร้างแท่นบูชาของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านด้วยหินที่พบในท้องทุ่ง และถวายเครื่องเผาบูชาแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านบนแท่นนั้น 7จงถวายเครื่องสันติบูชาบนแท่นนั้นเช่นกัน และเลี้ยงฉลองรื่นเริงต่อหน้าพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่าน 8จงจารึกบทบัญญัติทั้งปวงนี้ลงไปให้ชัดเจนบนก้อนหินที่ท่านตั้งขึ้น”
คำสาปแช่งจากภูเขาเอบาล
9แล้วโมเสสและปุโรหิตชาวเลวีกล่าวแก่ชนอิสราเอลว่า “อิสราเอลเอ๋ย จงสงบเงียบและฟังเถิด บัดนี้ท่านได้เป็นประชากรของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านแล้ว 10จงเชื่อฟังพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านและปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาและกฎหมายทั้งปวงซึ่งข้าพเจ้าแจ้งท่านในวันนี้”
11ในวันเดียวกันนั้นโมเสสสั่งประชากรดังนี้ว่า
12เมื่อท่านข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนแล้ว เผ่าสิเมโอน เลวี ยูดาห์ อิสสาคาร์ โยเซฟ และเบนยามิน จะยืนอยู่บนภูเขาเกริซิมเพื่ออวยพรประชากร 13ส่วนเผ่ารูเบน กาด อาเชอร์ เศบูลุน ดาน และนัฟทาลี จะยืนอยู่บนภูเขาเอบาล เพื่อกล่าวคำสาปแช่ง
14คนเลวีจะป่าวร้องแก่ชนอิสราเอลด้วยเสียงอันดังว่า
15“ขอแช่งคนที่แกะสลักหรือหล่อรูปเคารพซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงรังเกียจ เป็นผลงานจากน้ำมือของช่างและตั้งไว้อย่างลับๆ”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
16“ขอแช่งคนที่ไม่ให้เกียรติบิดามารดา”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
17“ขอแช่งคนที่ย้ายหลักเขตที่ดินของเพื่อนบ้าน”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
18“ขอแช่งคนที่นำคนตาบอดให้หลงทาง”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
19“ขอแช่งคนที่ไม่ให้ความยุติธรรมแก่คนต่างด้าว ลูกกำพร้าพ่อ หรือหญิงม่าย”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
20“ขอแช่งคนที่หลับนอนกับภรรยาของบิดา เพราะเขาหยามเกียรติบิดาของเขา”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
21“ขอแช่งคนที่สมสู่กับสัตว์”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
22“ขอแช่งคนที่หลับนอนกับพี่สาวน้องสาวของตน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบุตรสาวของบิดาหรือบุตรสาวของมารดาก็ตาม”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
23“ขอแช่งคนที่หลับนอนกับแม่ยายของตน”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
24“ขอแช่งคนที่ลอบสังหารเพื่อนบ้านของเขา”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
25“ขอแช่งคนที่รับสินบนเพื่อฆ่าผู้บริสุทธิ์”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
26“ขอแช่งคนที่ไม่ยึดมั่นปฏิบัติตามบทบัญญัตินี้”
แล้วประชากรทั้งปวงจะขานรับว่า
“อาเมน!”
The altar on Mount Ebal
1Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: ‘Keep all these commands that I give you today. 2When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. 6Build the altar of the Lord your God with stones from the field and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. 8And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.’
Curses from Mount Ebal
9Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, ‘Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God. 10Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.’
11On the same day Moses commanded the people:
12When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. 13And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
14The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:
15‘Cursed is anyone who makes an idol – a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands – and sets it up in secret.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
16‘Cursed is anyone who dishonours their father or mother.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
17‘Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbour’s boundary stone.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
18‘Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
19‘Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
20‘Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonours his father’s bed.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
21‘Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
22‘Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
23‘Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
24‘Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbour secretly.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
25‘Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
26‘Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.’
Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
