บัญญัติสิบประการ
(ฉธบ.5:6-21)
1พระเจ้าตรัสถ้อยคำเหล่านี้ว่า
2“เราคือพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าทั้งหลาย ผู้นำเจ้าออกมาจากอียิปต์ ออกจากแดนทาส
3“อย่ามีพระเจ้าอื่นใดต่อหน้าเรา20:3 หรือนอกเหนือจากเรา
4“อย่าสร้างแบบจำลองให้กับตนเอง เป็นรูปสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดที่มีอยู่ในฟ้าสวรรค์เบื้องบน แผ่นดินโลกเบื้องล่าง หรือท้องน้ำเบื้องลึก 5อย่ากราบไหว้หรือนมัสการสิ่งเหล่านั้น เพราะเรา พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า เป็นพระเจ้าผู้หึงหวง เราจะลงโทษลูกหลานของผู้ที่เกลียดชังเราไปสามสี่ชั่วอายุเพราะบาปของเขา 6แต่เราจะรักลูกหลานของผู้ที่รักเราและปฏิบัติตามคำสั่งของเราตลอดพันชั่วอายุคน
7“อย่ายกพระนามของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้ามาอ้างอย่างไม่สมควร เพราะองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงลงโทษผู้ที่อ้างพระนามของพระองค์เช่นนั้น
8“จงระลึกถึงวันสะบาโตโดยการทำให้วันนั้นบริสุทธิ์ 9จงทำงานทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าในหกวัน 10แต่ในวันที่เจ็ดเป็นวันสะบาโต20:10 แปลว่าพักแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า อย่าทำงานใดๆ ในวันนั้นไม่ว่าตัวเจ้า บุตรชาย บุตรสาว ทาสชายหญิง วัว ลา สัตว์ใดๆ แม้แต่คนต่างด้าวที่อาศัยอยู่กับเจ้า เพื่อทาสชายหญิงของเจ้าจะได้พักเช่นเดียวกับเจ้า 11เพราะในหกวัน องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงสร้างฟ้าและโลก ทะเลและสรรพสิ่งในนั้น แต่ทรงหยุดพักในวันที่เจ็ด ฉะนั้นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงอวยพรวันสะบาโตและตั้งให้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์
12“จงให้เกียรติบิดามารดาของเจ้า เพื่อเจ้าจะมีชีวิตยืนยาวในดินแดนที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้ากำลังยกให้เจ้า
13“อย่าฆ่าคน
14“อย่าล่วงประเวณี
15“อย่าลักขโมย
16“อย่าเป็นพยานเท็จใส่ร้ายเพื่อนบ้าน
17“อย่าโลภอยากได้บ้านเรือนของเพื่อนบ้าน อย่าโลภอยากได้ภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านหรือคนรับใช้ชายหญิงของเขา วัวหรือลาของเขา หรือสิ่งใดๆ ที่เป็นของเพื่อนบ้านของเจ้า”
18เมื่อประชากรทั้งปวงเห็นฟ้าแลบฟ้าร้องและควันทึบพุ่งขึ้นจากภูเขา ได้ยินเสียงฟ้าคำรนและเสียงเป่าแตร ก็ยืนอยู่แต่ไกล หวาดกลัวจนตัวสั่น 19และกล่าวกับโมเสสว่า “ขอให้ท่านแจ้งสิ่งที่พระเจ้าตรัสแก่เราเถิด เราจะรับฟัง แต่อย่าให้พระเจ้าตรัสกับพวกเราตรงๆ เลย ไม่เช่นนั้นเราคงต้องตาย”
20โมเสสกล่าวกับประชากรว่า “อย่ากลัวเลย พระเจ้าเสด็จมาทดสอบท่าน เพื่อที่ความยำเกรงพระเจ้าจะอยู่กับท่าน เพื่อปกป้องท่านจากการทำบาป”
21ขณะที่เหล่าประชากรยืนอยู่ห่างๆ โมเสสก้าวเข้าไปใกล้ที่มืดทึบซึ่งพระเจ้าประทับอยู่
รูปเคารพกับแท่นบูชา
22แล้วองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “จงแจ้งประชากรอิสราเอลว่า ‘พวกเจ้าเองก็เห็นแล้วว่าเราได้พูดกับเจ้าจากฟ้าสวรรค์ 23เจ้าอย่าสร้างรูปเคารพใดๆ ขึ้นมาเทียบเคียงเรา อย่าสร้างรูปเคารพที่ทำด้วยเงินหรือทองไว้สำหรับตนเอง
24“ ‘จงสร้างแท่นบูชาสำหรับเราด้วยดิน เพื่อถวายแกะ แพะ และวัวเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชาและเครื่องสันติบูชาแก่เราบนแท่นนั้น ที่ใดซึ่งเรากำหนดให้เป็นที่เทิดทูนนามของเรา เราจะมาหาและอวยพรเจ้าทั้งหลายที่นั่น 25ถ้าเจ้าทำแท่นบูชาสำหรับเราด้วยหิน อย่าใช้หินที่ตัดแต่งแล้ว อย่าตัดหรือแต่งก้อนหินด้วยเครื่องมือ เพราะจะทำให้แท่นเป็นมลทิน 26อย่าขึ้นไปยังแท่นของเราทางบันได เกรงว่าบางคนอาจจะเงยหน้าขึ้นมองเห็นความเปลือยของเจ้า’
The Ten Commandments
1And God spoke all these words:
2“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3“You shall have no other gods before20:3 Or besides me.
4“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13“You shall not murder.
14“You shall not commit adultery.
15“You shall not steal.
16“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.”
20Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”
21The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
Idols and Altars
22Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: 23Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
24“ ‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. 25If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. 26And do not go up to my altar on steps, or your private parts may be exposed.’
