สิ่งที่ต้องสอนกลุ่มต่างๆ
1ท่านต้องสอนสิ่งที่สอดคล้องกับคำสอนอันมีหลัก 2พึงสอนชายผู้สูงอายุให้เป็นผู้รู้จักประมาณตน น่านับถือ ควบคุมตนเองได้ เข้มแข็งในความเชื่อ ในความรัก และในความอดทน
3เช่นเดียวกันพึงสอนหญิงสูงอายุให้ดำเนินชีวิตด้วยความยำเกรง ไม่ใส่ร้ายป้ายสี หรือติดเหล้า แต่ให้สอนสิ่งที่ดีงาม 4แล้วนางจะสามารถฝึกฝนบรรดาหญิงสาวให้รักสามีและลูกๆ ของตน 5ให้เป็นผู้ควบคุมตนเองได้และเป็นผู้บริสุทธิ์ ให้เอาใจใส่ดูแลบ้านเรือน ให้มีเมตตาและให้ยอมเชื่อฟังสามีของตน เพื่อจะไม่มีใครว่าร้ายพระวจนะของพระเจ้าได้
6ในทำนองเดียวกันพึงให้กำลังใจบรรดาชายหนุ่มให้รู้จักควบคุมตนเอง 7ท่านจงประพฤติตนเป็นแบบอย่างในทุกด้านโดยการทำสิ่งที่ดี ในการสอนของท่านจงสำแดงความซื่อตรง ความเอาจริงเอาจัง 8และถ้อยคำอันมีหลักซึ่งไม่มีใครตำหนิได้ เพื่อผู้ที่ต่อต้านท่านจะได้ละอายใจเพราะไม่มีข้อไหนจะติว่าเราได้
9จงสอนพวกทาสให้เชื่อฟังนายของตนทุกสิ่ง พยายามทำให้นายพอใจ ไม่โต้เถียง 10และไม่ยักยอก แต่แสดงให้เห็นว่าเขาเป็นคนที่ไว้ใจได้เต็มที่ เพื่อว่าเขาจะทำให้คำสอนเรื่องพระเจ้าองค์พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรานั้นน่าเลื่อมใสในทุกๆ ทาง
11เพราะพระคุณของพระเจ้าซึ่งนำความรอดมานั้นได้ปรากฏแก่คนทั้งปวง 12สิ่งนี้สอนให้เราปฏิเสธความอธรรมและโลกียตัณหา และสอนเราให้ดำเนินชีวิตในยุคนี้อย่างคนที่รู้จักควบคุมตนเอง เป็นคนยุติธรรมและอยู่ในทางพระเจ้า 13ขณะที่เรารอคอยความหวังอันเปี่ยมด้วยพระพร คือการปรากฏพระองค์อย่างทรงพระเกียรติสิริของพระเจ้าองค์พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ของเราคือพระเยซูคริสต์ 14ผู้ประทานพระองค์เองแก่เราเพื่อไถ่เราให้พ้นจากความชั่วทั้งปวง และเพื่อชำระเราให้บริสุทธิ์ไว้สำหรับพระองค์ เป็นประชากรของพระองค์เพียงผู้เดียว เป็นผู้กระตือรือร้นที่จะทำสิ่งดี
15ฉะนั้นท่านควรสอนเรื่องเหล่านี้ จงให้กำลังใจและตักเตือนด้วยสิทธิอำนาจทั้งปวง อย่าให้ใครดูแคลนท่านได้
Doing good for the sake of the gospel
1You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. 2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no-one will malign the word of God.
6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
9Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive.
11For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
15These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
