Ang Pagdakip kay Jesus
(Mat. 26:47-56; Mar. 14:43-50; Luc. 22:47-53)
1Pagkatapos manalangin ni Jesus, umalis siya kasama ang mga tagasunod niya at tumawid sila sa Lambak ng Kidron. Pumunta sila sa isang lugar na may taniman ng mga olibo. 2Alam ng traydor na si Judas ang lugar na iyon, dahil madalas magtipon doon si Jesus at ang mga tagasunod niya. 3Kaya pumunta roon si Judas kasama ang isang pangkat ng mga Romanong sundalo at ilang mga guwardya sa templo na isinugo ng mga namamahalang pari at ng mga Pariseo. May dala-dala silang mga sulo at mga sandata. 4Alam ni Jesus ang lahat ng mangyayari sa kanya, kaya sinalubong niya sila at tinanong, “Sino ang hinahanap nʼyo?” 5Sumagot sila, “Si Jesus na taga-Nazaret.” Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Ako iyon.”
Naroon din ang traydor na si Judas na nakatayong kasama ng mga taong naghahanap kay Jesus. 6Nang sabihin ni Jesus na siya ang hinahanap nila, napaurong sila at natumba sa lupa. 7Kaya muling nagtanong si Jesus, “Sino ang hinahanap nʼyo?” Sumagot silang muli, “Si Jesus na taga-Nazaret.” 8Sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Hindi baʼt sinabi ko na sa inyo na ako iyon? Kung ako nga ang hinahanap nʼyo, hayaan nʼyong makaalis ang mga kasama ko.” 9(Sinabi niya ito para matupad ang sinabi niya sa Ama, “Wala ni isa mang napahamak sa mga ibinigay mo sa akin.”) 10Sa pagkakataong iyon, bumunot ng espada si Simon Pedro at tinaga ang alipin ng punong pari. Naputol ang kanang tainga ng alipin na ang pangalan ay Malcus. 11Pero sinaway ni Jesus si Pedro, “Ibalik mo ang espada mo sa lalagyan nito. Sa palagay mo baʼy hindi ko titiisin ang paghihirap na ibinigay sa akin18:11 hindi ko … sa akin: sa literal, hindi ko iinumin ang kopang ibinigay sa akin. ng Ama?”
Dinala si Jesus kay Anas
12Dinakip si Jesus ng mga Romanong sundalo sa pangunguna ng kanilang kapitan, kasama ng mga guwardyang Judio. Siyaʼy iginapos nila at 13dinala muna kay Anas na biyenan ni Caifas. Si Caifas ang punong pari nang taon na iyon, 14at siya ang nagpayo sa mga pinuno ng mga Judio na mabuting mamatay ang isang tao kaysa sa mapahamak ang buong bansa.
Ipinagkaila ni Pedro na Kilala Niya si Jesus
(Mat. 26:69-70; Mar. 14:66-68; Luc. 22:55-57)
15Si Simon Pedro at ang isa pang tagasunod ay sumunod kay Jesus. At dahil kilala ng punong pari ang tagasunod na ito, nakapasok siyang kasama ni Jesus sa bakuran ng punong pari. 16Naiwan namang nakatayo si Pedro sa labas ng pintuan. Lumabas muli ang tagasunod na kilala ng punong pari at nakiusap sa babaeng nagbabantay sa pinto, kaya pinapasok si Pedro. 17Sinabi ng babae kay Pedro, “Hindi baʼt isa ka sa mga tagasunod ng taong iyan?” Sumagot si Pedro, “Hindi!”
18Maginaw noon, kaya nagsiga ang mga alipin at mga guwardya, at tumayo sila sa paligid nito para magpainit. Nakihalo si Pedro sa kanila at nagpainit din.
Tinanong si Jesus ng Punong Pari
(Mat. 26:59-66; Mar. 14:55-64; Luc. 22:66-71)
19Samantala, tinanong ng punong pari si Jesus tungkol sa mga tagasunod niya at sa mga itinuturo niya. 20Sumagot si Jesus, “Hayagan akong nagsasalita sa mga tao. Lagi akong nangangaral sa mga sambahan at sa templo kung saan nagtitipon-tipon ang lahat ng Judio. Wala akong itinuro nang palihim. 21Bakit nʼyo ako tinatanong ngayon? Tanungin nʼyo ang mga nakarinig sa akin; alam nila kung ano ang mga sinabi ko.” 22Nang masabi ito ni Jesus, sinampal siya ng isa sa mga guwardya na malapit sa kanya. Sinabi ng guwardya, “Bakit ganyan ka sumagot sa punong pari?” 23Sinagot siya ni Jesus, “Kung may masama akong sinabi, patunayan mo. Pero kung totoo ang sinabi ko, bakit mo ako sinampal?”
24Habang nakagapos pa si Jesus, ipinadala siya ni Anas kay Caifas na punong pari.
Muling Ipinagkaila ni Pedro na Kilala Niya si Jesus
(Mat. 26:71-75; Mar. 14:69-72; Luc. 22:58-62)
25Samantala, nakatayo pa rin si Simon Pedro malapit sa siga at nagpapainit. Tinanong siya ng mga naroon, “Hindi baʼt isa ka sa mga tagasunod niya?” “Hindi!” Tanggi ni Pedro. 26Tinanong din si Pedro ng isa sa mga alipin ng punong pari, na kamag-anak ng pinutulan niya ng tainga, “Hindi baʼt nakita kitang kasama niya roon sa may taniman ng mga olibo?” 27Muli itong itinanggi ni Pedro, at noon din ay tumilaok ang manok.
Dinala si Jesus kay Pilato
28Mula kay Caifas, dinala si Jesus sa palasyo ng gobernador. Umaga na noon. Hindi pumasok ang mga Judio sa palasyo dahil ayon sa kautusan nila, ang pumasok sa bahay ng isang hindi Judio ay hindi magiging karapat-dapat kumain ng hapunan sa Pista ng Paglampas ng Anghel. 29Kaya sa labas sila kinausap ni Pilato at tinanong, “Ano ang paratang nʼyo laban sa taong ito?” 30Sumagot sila, “Kung hindi po siya kriminal ay hindi namin siya dadalhin sa inyo.” 31Sinabi ni Pilato sa kanila, “Dalhin nʼyo siya at kayo na ang humatol ayon sa inyong Kautusan.” Sumagot ang mga pinuno ng mga Judio, “Ngunit wala kaming kapangyarihang humatol ng kamatayan.” 32(Nangyari ang mga ito upang matupad ang sinabi ni Jesus tungkol sa uri ng kamatayang dadanasin niya.) 33Muling pumasok si Pilato sa palasyo at ipinatawag si Jesus, at tinanong, “Ikaw ba ang hari ng mga Judio?” 34Sumagot si Jesus, “Sa iyo ba nanggaling ang tanong na iyan o may nagsabi lang sa iyo tungkol sa akin?” 35Sumagot si Pilato, “Judio ba ako? Dinala ka rito sa akin ng mga kababayan mo at ng mga namamahalang pari. Ano ba ang ginawa mo?” 36Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanya, “Ang kaharian ko ay wala rito sa mundo. Kung nandito ang kaharian ko, makikipaglaban sana ang mga tagasunod ko upang hindi ako madakip ng mga Judio. Pero tulad nga ng sinabi ko, ang kaharian ko ay wala rito.” 37Sinabi ni Pilato, “Kung ganoon, isa kang hari?” Sumagot si Jesus, “Tama ang sinabi mo na isa akong hari. At ang dahilan kung bakit ako ipinanganak at naparito sa mundo ay upang ipahayag ang katotohanan. At ang lahat ng gustong makaalam ng katotohanan ay nakikinig sa akin.” 38Tinanong siya ni Pilato, “Ano ba ang katotohanan?”
Hinatulan si Jesus ng Kamatayan
(Mat. 27:15-31; Mar. 15:6-20; Luc. 23:13-25)
Nang masabi ito ni Pilato, lumabas siya at sinabi sa mga Judio, “Wala akong makitang kasalanan sa taong ito. 39Pero ayon sa kaugalian ninyo, dapat akong magpalaya ng isang bilanggo tuwing Pista ng Paglampas ng Anghel. Kaya gusto ba ninyong palayain ko ang Hari ng mga Judio?” 40Sumigaw ang mga tao, “Hindi siya. Si Barabas!” (Si Barabas ay isang tulisan.)
Jesus Is Arrested
1When Jesus had finished praying, he left with his disciples. They crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden. Jesus and his disciples went into it.
2Judas knew the place. He was going to hand Jesus over to his enemies. Jesus had often met in that place with his disciples. 3So Judas came to the garden. He was guiding a group of soldiers and some officials. The chief priests and the Pharisees had sent them. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.
4Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him. So he went out and asked them, “Who do you want?”
5“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.
“I am he,” Jesus said. Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, was standing there with them. 6When Jesus said, “I am he,” they moved back. Then they fell to the ground.
7He asked them again, “Who do you want?”
“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.
8Jesus answered, “I told you I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would come true. He had said, “I have not lost anyone God has given me.” (John 6:39)
10Simon Peter had a sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus.
11Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shouldn’t I drink the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”
12Then the group of soldiers, their commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They tied him up 13and brought him first to Annas. He was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time. 14Caiaphas had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.
Peter Says He Is Not Jesus’ Disciple
15Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. The high priest knew the other disciple. So that disciple went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard. 16But Peter had to wait outside by the door. The other disciple came back. He was the one the high priest knew. He spoke to the servant woman who was on duty there. Then he brought Peter in.
17She asked Peter, “You aren’t one of Jesus’ disciples too, are you?”
“I am not,” he replied.
18It was cold. The slaves and officials stood around a fire. They had made it to keep warm. Peter was also standing with them. He was warming himself.
The High Priest Questions Jesus
19Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus. He asked him about his disciples and his teaching.
20“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I didn’t say anything in secret. 21Why question me? Ask the people who heard me. They certainly know what I said.”
22When Jesus said that, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this any way to answer the high priest?” he asked.
23“Have I said something wrong?” Jesus replied. “If I have, then tell everyone what it was. But if I spoke the truth, why did you hit me?” 24Annas sent him, tied up, to Caiaphas, the high priest.
Peter Again Says He Is Not Jesus’ Disciple
25Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself by the fire. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of Jesus’ disciples too, are you?”
He said, “I am not.”
26One of the high priest’s slaves was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off. He said to Peter, “Didn’t I see you with Jesus in the garden?” 27Again Peter said no. At that exact moment a rooster began to crow.
Jesus Is Brought to Pilate
28Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning. The Jewish leaders did not want to be made “unclean.” They wanted to be able to eat the Passover meal. So they did not enter the palace. 29Pilate came out to them. He asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30“He has committed crimes,” they replied. “If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”
31Pilate said, “Take him yourselves. Judge him by your own law.”
“But we don’t have the right to put anyone to death,” they complained. 32This happened so that what Jesus said about how he was going to die would come true.
33Then Pilate went back inside the palace. He ordered Jesus to be brought to him. Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34“Is that your own idea?” Jesus asked. “Or did others talk to you about me?”
35“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?”
36Jesus said, “My kingdom is not from this world. If it were, those who serve me would fight. They would try to keep the Jewish leaders from arresting me. My kingdom is from another place.”
37“So you are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, that’s the reason I was born. I was born and came into the world to be a witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.”
38“What is truth?” Pilate replied. Then Pilate went out again to the Jews gathered there. He said, “I find no basis for any charge against him. 39But you have a practice at Passover time. At that time, you ask me to set one prisoner free for you. Do you want me to set ‘the king of the Jews’ free?”
40They shouted back, “No! Not him! Give us Barabbas!” Barabbas had taken part in an armed struggle against the country’s rulers.
