Perduto e… ritrovato
1Ad ascoltare Gesù venivano anche certi esattori delle tasse disonesti ed altri noti peccatori. 2La loro presenza suscitava molte critiche da parte dei capi religiosi e dei dottori della legge ebraica, perché Gesù si univa a quella gente poco raccomandabile; non solo, mangiava perfino con loro! 3-4Gesù allora raccontò questa parabola: «Fate conto di avere cento pecore e ne perdete una nel deserto. Che cosa farete? Non lascerete forse le altre novantanove per andare a cercare quella che si è perduta, finché non lʼavete trovata? 5E poi, felici, ve la riporterete a casa sulle spalle! 6Arrivati, riunirete gli amici e i vicini, per festeggiare la pecora ritrovata.
7Allo stesso modo si fa più festa in cielo per un solo peccatore che torna a Dio, che per novantanove altri che non si sono smarriti!
8Prendete un altro esempio: una donna ha dieci monete dʼargento di un certo valore e ne perde una. Bene, che cosa farà? Accenderà una lampada e spazzerà in ogni angolo della casa, cercando dappertutto, finché non lʼavrà ritrovata. 9Poi chiamerà amiche e vicine, perché si rallegrino con lei. 10Allo stesso modo cʼè gioia alla presenza degli angeli di Dio, quando un peccatore si pente!»
Poi Gesù raccontò questʼaltra parabola: 11«Un uomo aveva due figli. 12Un giorno il minore disse al padre: “Voglio subito la mia parte dʼeredità”. E il padre acconsentì di dividere la sua ricchezza fra i due figli.
13Alcuni giorni dopo, il figlio minore, fatti i bagagli, partì per un paese lontano, dove sperperò tutto il suo denaro con una vita dissoluta. 14Proprio quando era rimasto senza il becco di un quattrino, scoppiò una grande carestia in tutto il paese ed egli si trovò in gravi difficoltà economiche. 15Si mise allora al servizio di un contadino, che lo mandò a pascolare i porci. 16La fame però aumentava, tanto che perfino ciò che mangiavano i maiali gli sembrava buono, ma nessuno gliene dava.
17Quando finalmente si rese conto della sua situazione, disse tra di sé: “A casa mia perfino i servi hanno cibo che basta e avanza, mentre io me ne sto qui a morire di fame! 18Ritornerò a casa da mio padre e gli dirò: Padre, ho peccato contro Dio e contro di te; 19non sono più degno di essere chiamato tuo figlio. Ti prego, prendimi come tuo servo!”
20Così il giovane tornò a casa sua. Era ancora lontano che suo padre lo vide arrivare; pieno dʼamore e compassione gli corse incontro, lo abbracciò e lo baciò.
21Il figlio gli disse: “Padre, ho peccato contro il cielo e contro di te, non sono più degno di essere chiamato tuo figlio!”
22Ma il padre disse ai servi: “Svelti, portate i vestiti più belli che abbiamo in casa e fateglieli indossare! Portate anche un anello con una pietra preziosa, e non dimenticate i sandali! 23Poi ammazzate il vitello che teniamo allʼingrasso. Dobbiamo festeggiare con un gran pranzo, 24perché questo figlio mio era per me come morto, ed ora è ritornato in vita. Era perduto, ed ora lʼho ritrovato!”
Così ebbe inizio la festa.
25Nel frattempo il figlio maggiore stava lavorando nei campi. Quando tornò a casa, sentì la musica provenire dalla sala del banchetto 26e chiese ad uno dei servi che cosa stesse accadendo.
27“È tornato tuo fratello!” gli rispose il servo, “e tuo padre ha fatto ammazzare il vitello che era allʼingrasso ed ha preparato un grande banchetto per festeggiare il suo ritorno a casa, sano e salvo!”
28Il fratello maggiore sʼadirò e non voleva neppure entrare in casa. Il padre, allora, uscì e cercò di convincerlo ad entrare, 29ma egli disse: “Tutti questi anni ho lavorato sodo per te e non mi sono mai rifiutato di fare una sola cosa che tu avessi ordinato. Ebbene, in tutto questo tempo tu non mi hai dato neppure un capretto per far festa con i miei amici. 30Invece, quando questo tuo figlio è ritornato, dopo aver sperperato tutti i tuoi soldi con le prostitute, lʼhai festeggiato facendo ammazzare il più bel vitello che avevamo!”
31“Vedi, figlio mio”, gli spiegò il padre, “tu ed io siamo molto uniti, e tutto ciò che è mio è anche tuo. 32Ma è giusto festeggiare, perché questo tuo fratello era per me come morto ed è tornato in vita! Era perduto ed ora lʼho ritrovato!”»
1Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
3¶ And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
8¶ Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
11¶ And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. 25Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. 26And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. 27And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 29And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 30But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 31And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
