معلمين دروغين و عاقبت كار آنان
1اما در آن روزگاران، انبيای دروغين نيز بودند، همانطور كه در ميان شما نيز معلمين دروغين پيدا خواهند شد كه با نيرنگ، دروغهايی دربارهٔ خدا بيان خواهند كرد و حتی با سَرور خود، مسيح كه ايشان را با خون خود خريده است، سر به مخالفت برخواهند داشت. اما ناگهان سرنوشتی هولناک دچار آنها خواهد شد. 2عده‌ای بسيار، تعاليم مضر و خلاف اخلاق ايشان را پيروی خواهند كرد و به سبب همين افراد، راه مسيح مورد اهانت و تمسخر قرار خواهد گرفت.
3اين معلم‌نماها از روی طمع، با هرگونه سخنان نادرست خواهند كوشيد پول شما را به چنگ بياورند. اما خدا از مدتها پيش ايشان را محكوم فرموده؛ پس نابودی‌شان نزديک است. 4خدا حتی از سر تقصير فرشتگانی كه گناه كردند نگذشت، بلكه ايشان را در ظلمت جهنم محبوس فرمود تا زمان داوری فرا رسد. 5همچنين، در روزگاران گذشته، پيش از طوفان، بر هيچكس ترحم نفرمود، جز بر نوح كه راه راست خدا را اعلام می‌كرد، و بر خانوادهٔ او كه هفت نفر بودند. در آن زمان، خدا همهٔ مردم خدانشناس دنيا را با طوفانی عالمگير به کلی نابود ساخت. 6مدتها پس از آن، خدا شهرهای «سدوم» و «عموره» را به تلی از خاكستر تبديل نمود و از صفحهٔ روزگار محو ساخت، تا در آينده درسی باشد برای تمام خدانشناسان و بی‌دينان.
7-8اما در همان زمان، خدا «لوط» را از سدوم نجات داد، زيرا او مرد درستكاری بود و از رفتار و سخنان قبيح و هرزه و گناه‌آلودی كه هر روز از ساكنان شهر می‌ديد و می‌شنيد، رنج می‌برد و به تنگ می‌آمد. 9به همين ترتيب خدا می‌تواند من و شما را نيز از وسوسه‌های اطرافمان رهايی بخشد و به مجازات مردم خدانشناس ادامه دهد تا سرانجام روز داوری فرا برسد. 10مجازات خدا خصوصاً بر كسانی سخت خواهد بود كه به دنبال خواسته‌های ناپاک و جسمانی خود می‌روند و تابع هيچ قدرتی نيستند. اينان چنان گستاخ هستند كه حتی موجودات آسمانی را نيز به باد تمسخر می‌گيرند؛ 11در حالی که فرشتگان آسمانی كه در حضور خدا هستند و صاحب قدرت و قوتی بسيار برتر از اين معلم‌نماها می‌باشند، هرگز به اين موجودات توهين نمی‌كنند.
12اين معلمين دروغين و فريبكار، مانند حيوانات وحشی كه برای شكار و كشته شدن آفريده شده‌اند، فقط بر اساس غريزهٔ خود عمل می‌كنند، و هر كاری را كه غريزه‌شان حكم می‌كند، انجام می‌دهند. اينان، هر چه را كه نمی‌فهمند مسخره می‌كنند، غافل از اينكه روزی مانند همان حيوانات نابود خواهند شد.
13بلی، مزد اين معلم‌نماها همين است، زيرا روزهای عمر خود را به خوشگذرانی‌های گناه‌آلود می‌گذرانند. وجود ايشان در ميان شما باعث ننگ و رسوايی است؛ خود را درستكار نشان می‌دهند تا در ضيافتهای كليسايی شما داخل شوند. 14به هر زنی با نظر ناپاک نگاه می‌كنند و از زناكاری هرگز سير نمی‌شوند؛ زنان بی‌اراده را به نيرنگ به دام می‌اندازند؛ ايشان خود را طمعكار بار آورده‌اند و زير لعنت و محكوميت خدا قرار دارند. 15از راه راست خارج شده، مانند «بلعام» پسر «بعور» گمراه شده‌اند. بلعام پولی را كه از انجام ناراستی به دست می‌آورد، دوست می‌داشت؛ 16اما وقتی الاغ او به زبان انسان به حرف آمد و او را سرزنش و توبيخ كرد، از رفتار نادرست خود دست كشيد.
17اين اشخاص همچون چشمه‌های خشكيده، نفعی به كسی نمی‌رسانند، و مانند ابرهايی كه به هر سو رانده می‌شوند، ناپايدارند و تاريكی ابدی جهنم انتظارشان را می‌كشد. 18ايشان به گناهان و اعمال ناپاک خود می‌بالند، و آنان را كه تازه از چنين زندگی گناه‌آلودی نجات يافته‌اند، با استفاده از فريب شهوت، باز به دام گناه می‌كشانند، 19و می‌گويند: «كسی كه نجات يافته، آزاد است هر كاری می‌خواهد بكند و هيچ كار او گناه به حساب نخواهد آمد.» در حالی که خودشان نيز آزاد نيستند بلكه اسير شهوات می‌باشند، زيرا انسانی كه تحت تسلط چيزی است، اسير آن می‌باشد.
20هرگاه كسی با شناخت خداوند و نجات دهنده‌مان عيسی مسيح، از ناپاكی‌های اين دنيا رهايی يابد، ولی بعد از آن، بار ديگر اسير آن آلودگی‌ها گردد، وضعش بدتر از سابق می‌شود. 21اگر چيزی دربارهٔ مسيح نمی‌دانست، برايش بهتر بود از اينكه مسيح را بشناسد و سپس به احكام مقدسی كه به او سپرده شده است، پشت پا بزند. 22آن مَثَل قديمی چه خوب می‌گويد كه «سگ به قی خود باز می‌گردد و خوک شسته شده، بار ديگر در لجن می‌غلتد.» اين مثل دربارهٔ اين اشخاص صدق می‌كند.
False teachers and their destruction
1But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them – bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,2:4 Greek Tartarus putting them in chains of darkness2:4 Some manuscripts in gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; 5if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8(for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard) – 9if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 10This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh2:10 In contexts like this, the Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings, often presented as a power in opposition to the Spirit; also in verse 18. and despise authority.
Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from2:11 Many manuscripts beings in the presence of the Lord. 12But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.
13They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, revelling in their pleasures while they feast with you.2:13 Some manuscripts in their love feasts 14With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed – an accursed brood! 15They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer,2:15 Greek Bosor who loved the wages of wickedness. 16But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey – an animal without speech – who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.
17These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity – for ‘people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.’ 20If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22Of them the proverbs are true: ‘A dog returns to its vomit,’2:22 Prov. 26:11 and, ‘A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.’
