1Senhor, Deus da minha salvação,
tenho clamado por ti de dia e de noite.
2Que a minha oração chegue até ti;
inclina os teus ouvidos ao meu apelo.
3Porque a minha alma está cheia de angústias
e sinto-me perto do mundo dos mortos.
4É como se fizesse já parte do número
dos que vão descer ao abismo.
Sou uma criatura sem vigor algum.
5Estou como se tivesse sido lançado
no monte dos casos perdidos, sem esperança.
É como se não te lembrasses mais de mim,
como se a tua mão me tivesse afastado,
por eu estar numa situação desesperada.
6Puseste-me num profundo abismo,
em densas trevas.
7A tua cólera pesa sobre mim;
as tuas vagas derrubam-me. (Pausa)
8Fizeste com que os meus amigos me abandonassem;
foram-se embora porque me detestavam.
Sinto-me como um prisioneiro;
não vejo saída para isto.
9Tenho os olhos cansados de tanto chorar de aflição;
clamo por ti todos os dias, estendendo-te as mãos.
10Um corpo morto não poderá falar das tuas maravilhas;
a alma dos mortos não irá levantar-se para te louvar. (Pausa)
11Debaixo da terra, nas sepulturas,
não poderá ser anunciada a tua bondade
e a fidelidade com que socorres os teus.
12Na escuridão não se poderá falar dos teus milagres,
nem da tua justiça na terra do esquecimento.
13Mas eu, Senhor, logo de madrugada clamo por ti,
dirigindo-te a minha oração.
14Senhor, porque recusas o teu favor à minha alma?
Porque viras de mim o teu rosto?
15Desde a minha mocidade que sou fraco, doente,
sempre à beira da morte;
o terror de me sentir desamparado por ti abate-me.
16A tua ardente indignação abate-se sobre mim;
os teus terrores vão acabando comigo.
17Estes receios e terrores apertam-me,
rodeiam-me de manhã à noite.
18E tudo isto faz com que amigos e companheiros
se afastem para longe de mim.
Em lugar da amizade dos que me rodeavam na intimidade,
agora só tenho trevas à minha volta.

4I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

7Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
8Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
9Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
10Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
11Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
12Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
13But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
14LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
16Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
