(Salmos 107–150)
Salmo 107
1Deem graças ao Senhor porque ele é bom,
porque o seu amor é eterno!
2Que aqueles a quem o Senhor salvou
contem como Deus os salvou dos seus inimigos!
3Como tornou trazê-los dos quatro cantos da Terra,
do oriente e do ocidente, do norte e das zonas do mar.
4Andaram desgarrados pelo deserto, isolados,
sem um lar onde pudessem descansar.
5Andaram famintos, sedentos, desfalecendo.
6Mas clamaram ao Senhor, na sua tribulação,
e ele os livrou das suas angústias.
7Levou-os, por fim, com segurança,
a um lugar seguro onde habitaram.
8Louvem o Senhor pela sua bondade
e pelas suas maravilhas para com os homens!
9Porque satisfez plenamente a alma que tinha sede,
encheu de bens a alma que tinha fome.
10Quem são esses que estão sentados nas trevas,
nas sombras da morte, prisioneiros da miséria,
pela opressão e pela escravidão?
11Pois rebelaram-se contra as palavras de Deus
e desprezaram os decretos do Altíssimo.
12Foi por isso que ele os abateu com dificuldades;
caíram e ninguém houve que pudesse ajudá-los
a erguerem-se de novo.
13Mas clamaram ao Senhor, na sua tribulação,
e ele os livrou das suas angústias.
14Tirou-os daquelas trevas em que estavam,
daquelas sombras da morte,
e quebrou as cadeias que os amarravam.
15Louvem o Senhor pela sua bondade
e pelas suas maravilhas para com os homens!
16Derrubou os pesados portões de bronze
e despedaçou as barras de ferro das suas prisões;
fez em pedaços as correntes que os amarravam.
17Outros houve que foram afligidos
por causa das suas muitas transgressões,
da loucura que os levou por caminhos de maldade.
18À força de tanto sofrerem, chegaram a definhar;
nem sequer a comida lhes apetecia,
ficando às portas da morte.
19Então clamaram ao Senhor, na sua tribulação,
e ele os livrou das suas angústias.
20Lembrou-lhes a sua palavra,
e as suas fraquezas foram saradas;
livrou-os da destruição.
21Louvem o Senhor pela sua bondade,
e pelas suas maravilhas para com os homens!
22Ofereçam alegres sacrifícios de ação de graças,
e anunciem a toda a gente as suas maravilhosas obras.
23E há ainda os navegantes, os marinheiros,
que atravessam de lés a lés todos esses mares,
cruzando as rotas do mundo;
24Também esses, lá no mar alto,
podem ver obras maravilhosas que o Senhor fez.
25À sua ordem, podem levantar-se ventos tempestuosos
que fazem erguer vagas imensas.
26Pesados navios elevam-se nas suas cristas
e são mergulhados novamente no profundo abismo.
27A própria gente do mar encolhe-se de terror,
cambaleando, vacilando como bêbedos,
perdendo mesmo o controlo de si mesmos.
28Mas clamaram ao Senhor na sua tribulação,
e ele livrou-os das suas angústias.
29Ele faz acabar a tormenta, acalma as vagas.
30A alegria volta de novo com essa bonança;
Deus leva-os até ao porto desejado.
31Louvem o Senhor pela sua bondade
e pelas suas maravilhas para com os homens!
32Como deveriam dar toda a honra a Deus,
publicamente, e perante os anciãos conselheiros!
33Deus seca os rios e transforma-os em desertos.
34Transforma a boa terra num deserto de sal,
por causa da maldade dos que nela habitam.
35Por outro lado, converte os desertos
em terra fértil, cheia de água.
36Ele traz gente faminta para ali habitar
e construir as suas cidades.
37Semeiam os campos e plantam vinhas;
comem de tudo o que a terra produzir.
38É assim que Deus os abençoa
e os ajuda a constituírem grandes famílias,
fazendo multiplicar o seu gado.
39Vemos também que há outros que ficam pobres;
em vez de progredirem, definham,
abatidos pela opressão, aflição e tristeza.
40Deus lança desprezo sobre os orgulhosos;
faz com que governantes acabem por vaguear
entre as ruínas daquilo que possuíram.
41Contudo, aos desfavorecidos Deus os salva da opressão;
no seu abrigo seguro, faz as famílias a multiplicarem-se.
42Estas coisas alegram as pessoas que são retas,
enquanto os maus ficam mudos, sem palavras.
43A sabedoria consiste em prestar atenção a estas coisas,
em refletir sobre a grande bondade do Senhor!

Psalm 107
1Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.107:3 Hebrew north and the sea
4Some wandered in desert wastelands,
finding no way to a city where they could settle.
5They were hungry and thirsty,
and their lives ebbed away.
6Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
7He led them by a straight way
to a city where they could settle.
8Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
10Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
prisoners suffering in iron chains,
11because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
12So he subjected them to bitter labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
14He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains.
15Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
16for he breaks down gates of bronze
and cuts through bars of iron.
17Some became fools through their rebellious ways
and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
18They loathed all food
and drew near the gates of death.
19Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
20He sent out his word and healed them;
he rescued them from the grave.
21Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
22Let them sacrifice thank offerings
and tell of his works with songs of joy.
23Some went out on the sea in ships;
they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24They saw the works of the Lord,
his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25For he spoke and stirred up a tempest
that lifted high the waves.
26They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
in their peril their courage melted away.
27They reeled and staggered like drunkards;
they were at their wits’ end.
28Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
29He stilled the storm to a whisper;

30They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.
31Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
32Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.
33He turned rivers into a desert,
flowing springs into thirsty ground,
34and fruitful land into a salt waste,
because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
35He turned the desert into pools of water
and the parched ground into flowing springs;
36there he brought the hungry to live,
and they founded a city where they could settle.
37They sowed fields and planted vineyards
that yielded a fruitful harvest;
38he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,
and he did not let their herds diminish.
39Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled
by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40he who pours contempt on nobles
made them wander in a trackless waste.
41But he lifted the needy out of their affliction
and increased their families like flocks.
42The upright see and rejoice,
but all the wicked shut their mouths.
43Let the one who is wise heed these things
and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.
