1Zofar, o naamatita, responde a Job:
2“Mas então não haverá ninguém que ponha cobro
a esta torrente de palavras?
3Será que pelo muito falar se tem razão?
Haveria eu de ficar em silêncio
perante a ousadia das tuas palavras?
4Zombas de Deus e não haverá ninguém que te envergonhe?
Afianças que és puro aos olhos de Deus!
5Oh! Se Deus falasse e te dissesse o que pensa!
Oh! Se ele te fizesse ver exatamente quem tu és!
6Porque ele sabe bem tudo o que tens feito.
Ouve! Deus, sem dúvida alguma, está a castigar-te,
mas está a fazê-lo muito menos do que mereces!
7Conheces tu a mente e os propósitos de Deus?
Pensarás tu que se procurares intensamente
poderás conhecê-los enfim?
Terás algum direito de julgar Deus,
o Todo-Poderoso?
8A sabedoria de Deus é mais alta que os céus.
Que poderás fazer?
Ela é mais profunda que o mundo dos mortos.
Que poderás compreender?
9A sua extensão é muito mais vasta que a Terra,
mais ampla que os grande oceanos.
10Se ele vier acusar alguém e o julgar,
quem será capaz de o impedir?
11Porque conhece perfeitamente
todas as culpas e pecados da humanidade;
vê toda a iniquidade sem precisar de procurar.
12Mas o insensato só se tornará sábio
quando a cria do jumento selvagem nascer dócil e mansa.
13Antes de te voltares para Deus
e de lhe estenderes as mãos,
14livra-te dos teus pecados,
abandona a iniquidade atrás de ti.
15Só então, sem as manchas de pecado a sujarem-te,
poderás andar com segurança perante Deus, sem nada recear.
16Só então poderás esquecer definitivamente a tua miséria
e te lembrarás dela como águas passadas.
17A tua vida será mais brilhante que o meio-dia;
qualquer sombra parecerá ter a luz duma manhã!
18Serás corajoso porque terás esperança;
olharás em volta e deitar-te-ás seguro e tranquilo.
19Deitar-te-ás sem medos
e muitos buscarão tua face para pedir o teu favor.
20Contudo, o ímpio não encontrará forma de escapar;
a sua única expectativa é a morte.”
