O túmulo vazio
(Mt 28.1-10; Mc 16.1-8; Lc 24.1-12)
1Na madrugada de domingo, fazendo ainda escuro, Maria Madalena foi ao túmulo e viu que a pedra tinha sido afastada da entrada. 2Correu logo a buscar Simão Pedro e o outro discípulo, por quem Jesus tinha muita afeição, e disse: “Levaram do túmulo o corpo do Senhor e não sei onde o puseram!”
3Pedro e o outro discípulo correram ao túmulo para ver. 4O companheiro, mais veloz do que Pedro, chegou primeiro. 5Curvando-se, espreitou e viu os lençóis abandonados, mas não entrou. 6Depois, chegou Simão Pedro e entrou no túmulo, reparando também no lençol ali caído. 7No entanto, a ligadura que cobrira a cabeça de Jesus encontrava-se dobrada a um canto. 8Então, também o outro discípulo entrou e creu. 9Porque até ali não se tinham apercebido de que as Escrituras diziam que ele tornaria a viver. 10E os discípulos voltaram para casa.
Jesus aparece a Maria Madalena
(Mt 28.9-10; Mc 16.9-11)
11Maria regressou ao túmulo, ficando do lado de fora a chorar. Enquanto chorava, espreitou para dentro 12e viu dois anjos vestidos de branco, sentados à cabeceira e aos pés do local onde estivera o corpo de Jesus. 13“Porque choras?”, perguntaram-lhe os anjos.
“Porque levaram o meu Senhor e não sei onde o puseram!”
14Então reparou que alguém estava atrás de si. Era Jesus, mas não o reconheceu.
15“Porque choras?”, perguntou ele. “Quem procuras?”
Ela pensava que fosse o jardineiro: “Se foste tu que o levaste, mostra-me onde o puseste que eu vou buscá-lo.”
16“Maria!”, disse Jesus.
Ela voltou-se para ele: “Raboni!”, que quer dizer: “Meu Mestre!”
17“Não me toques”, disse Jesus, “porque ainda não subi para meu Pai. Mas vai ter com os meus irmãos e diz-lhes que subo para meu Pai e vosso Pai, meu Deus e vosso Deus.”
18Maria Madalena procurou os discípulos e disse-lhes: “Vi o Senhor!”, dando-lhes em seguida este recado.
Jesus aparece aos discípulos
(Mt 28.16-20; Mc 16.14-18; Lc 24.36-49)
19Naquela noite, encontravam-se os discípulos reunidos à porta fechada, com medo dos judeus, quando Jesus surgiu no meio deles, saudando-os: “A paz seja convosco!” 20Depois de saudar os discípulos, mostrou-lhes as mãos e o lado. E qual não foi a alegria deles ao verem o Senhor! 21Ele tornou a falar-lhes: “A paz seja convosco! Assim como o Pai me enviou, também eu vos envio!” 22E soprando sobre eles, acrescentou: “Recebam o Espírito Santo! 23Se perdoarem a alguém os seus pecados, perdoados ficam. Se se recusarem a perdoá-los, ficarão por perdoar.”
Jesus aparece a Tomé
24Um dos discípulos, Tomé (o Gémeo), não se encontrava ali com os outros. 25Mais tarde, quando os outros discípulos lhe contaram: “Vimos o Senhor!”, ele replicou: “Não acredito, a não ser que veja as feridas dos pregos nas suas mãos, ponha nelas os meus dedos e toque com a minha mão na ferida do seu lado.”
26Passados oito dias, os discípulos estavam outra vez juntos. Nessa ocasião encontrava-se Tomé também presente. As portas estavam fechadas mas, tal como antes, Jesus apareceu no meio deles e disse: “Paz seja convosco!” 27Depois disse a Tomé: “Coloca o dedo nas feridas das minhas mãos e a tua mão no meu lado. Não sejas descrente. Acredita!”
28“Meu Senhor e meu Deus!”, exclamou Tomé.
29Então Jesus observou: “Crês porque me viste! Felizes os que não me viram e, mesmo assim, creem.”
30Os discípulos de Jesus viram-no realizar muitos outros sinais além dos registados neste livro. 31Estes vêm aqui descritos para que creiam que ele é o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, e para que, crendo nele, tenham vida em seu nome.
The Tomb Is Empty
1Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. It was still dark. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance. 2So she ran to Simon Peter and another disciple, the one Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb! We don’t know where they have put him!”
3So Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. 4Both of them were running. The other disciple ran faster than Peter. He reached the tomb first. 5He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there. But he did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter came along behind him. He went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there. 7He also saw the funeral cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place. It was separate from the linen. 8The disciple who had reached the tomb first also went inside. He saw and believed. 9They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. 10Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11But Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she cried, she bent over to look into the tomb. 12She saw two angels dressed in white. They were seated where Jesus’ body had been. One of them was where Jesus’ head had been laid. The other sat where his feet had been placed.
13They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said. “I don’t know where they have put him.” 14Then she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she didn’t realize that it was Jesus.
15He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?”
She thought he was the gardener. So she said, “Sir, did you carry him away? Tell me where you put him. Then I will go and get him.”
16Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him. Then she cried out in the Aramaic language, “Rabboni!” Rabboni means Teacher.
17Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me. I have not yet ascended to the Father. Instead, go to those who believe in me. Tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
18Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news. She said, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19On the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were together. They had locked the doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!” 20Then he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were very happy when they saw the Lord.
21Again Jesus said, “May peace be with you! The Father has sent me. So now I am sending you.” 22He then breathed on them. He said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Jesus Appears to Thomas
24Thomas was one of the 12 disciples. He was also called Didymus. He was not with the other disciples when Jesus came. 25So they told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “First I must see the nail marks in his hands. I must put my finger where the nails were. I must put my hand into his side. Only then will I believe.”
26A week later, Jesus’ disciples were in the house again. Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, “May peace be with you!” 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here. See my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
28Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen me but still have believed.”
The Purpose of John’s Gospel
30Jesus performed many other signs in front of his disciples. They are not written down in this book. 31But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. If you believe this, you will have life because you belong to him.
